OK here's some more info. First, take off one of the horns and hook it across the basttery to see if it just plain works. If it does, the problem is most likely dirty contacts on your horn switch. All the switch does is connect the horn to ground. That's pretty much the whole circuit for the stock horns. There is a tech manual here on site in the form of a PDF file. What some of us members do is buy a WOLO Bad Boy horn (or 2) from Harbor Freight, Auto Zone, Wally World, etc. and use them and add a horn relay in the circuit as the Bad Boy (some members like to spend extra and buy the Steibel horn which is the same OEM as the bad boy but much more expensive) draws a lot more current and the stock horn switch can't handle the load. We use the stock horn leads to trigger the primary of the relay, and run a line directly from the battery thru a fuse to the relay contacts and then to the horn, and ground the other side of the horn. The horn is marked plus and minus. Harbor Freight sells the horn for around $40, other places want between $50 - $70. A standard relay should run you about $5. You will now give freight trains competition for loudness...

What you set the pressure to is prety much an individual thing. Where you have it now sounds like a pretty much niddle of the road thing or riding 2 up average weight and not pulling a trailer. I would say just keep lowering the front until it starts to feel "squishy" and it seems to bottom out on bad bumps. The front seems to have the most efect on how low the bike rides. As far as the rear goes, set it lower until the back end seems a litle "squirley" and tends to sway a bit. There is also a dampening adjustment on the side of the bike for the rear shock. There are four setings for how responsive or sluggish the shock acts. He may want to try adjusting that a little too...

Rear coils have a new home.

The word "Shoehorn" comes to mind! Good work, Gary!! Hope heat buildup is not an issue but time will tell... -
Actually I think the bike is extremely nice and I certainly would be glad to own it myself, but not for that kind of money!! Gee, how much would it cost to import Goldie to Iceland...

Bummer, Gunk!!! Are you going to Carls the weekend before that??

Yah, that's Earl all right!!! -
I dunno, Jonas, my '84 is nicer in some ways, his is nicer than mine in others. I have chrome aftermarket stuff he doesn't have but he has aftermarket stuff I don't. Of course Goldie is apart at present...

I, on the other hand, am a big fan of Odessey!! I had one in my '84 that sat for almost 3 years and still was at 12 volts! Anyway, even a high output stator is not going to have much, if any, output at idle, especially if it is lower than 1000 rpm. The stator really does not put out enough to keep the system at a surplus until around 2000 rpm. The other part of the equation is the voltage regulator. There is a better aftermarket regulator out there that should be installed along with the high output stator to complete the job... As far as 2nd gens go there is some kind of issue with how much they drain while shut off. I am curently having problems with my DEKA if left unattended for a couple of weeks, and someone else has noticed an issue with this as well. Not sure if that was Gunboat's problem or not, but AGM batteries do not like automated chargers at all if they are discharged. They say they are bad when they are not. You have to slow charge them with a non monitoring type charger to bring them back to life! -

Brad, I'm sooo old I go back to black and white TV, vacuum tubes, and even before the 8 track... -
Yau have to ask for the Venturerider discount. Maybe try a different day when you can talk to an English speaking person...

Yah!! That's what I'm thinking, PO install. Actually, that's a good thing as obviously the owner cared about the bike and not just rode it... -
No,I just drink it...

You can also pick up a used seat on Fleabay cheap enough and rework and reupholster it if you are handy at that sort of thing. The CLASS (Computer Leveling Automatic Suspension System) is the device on the right side dashboard above the CB radio and only works with the key in the accdessory position. By pressing the buttons you can raise or lower both the front and the rear automatically either together or independantly from each other. High position = high air pressure, making for a stiffer ride but better load handling. Low position = lower air pressure resulting in a spongy ride... I am assuming you have the "Royale" and not the "Standard" version. If you have the Venture standard version, you do not have a CB or CLASS system but instead have a air valve to adjust the air pressure.

Yup!! Been there (still am), done that (still do), bought the tee shirt, and got yelled at for having so many of them!! The screws as you described it is now what came to mind as I read the story...

May be that it's time for a carb rebuild, the idle circuit in the carbs may be partially plugged up. Have you synced the carbs lately?? Elsewise sounds like you pretty much did all the mods for hot starting, bigger battery lines, 4 brush starter, and better battery like the Odessey or a DEKA... -
Agave, isn't that what Tequila is made of?????
-
Yup!! Redo the seat and/or run less air in the rear (and front) shocks. They are a tall bike, I never could put my feet flat down without tall soled riding boots...
