  1. Yes, he did go back to work several weeks ago but I can remember seeing him on a day or two ago...
  2. Just prayed for you, and will continue to do so.
  3. Sounds like you are just going to have to get your trusty voltmeter out and start troubleshooting! Start with the relay primary. You should see 12 volts on both sides of theprimary until you press the horn button. Then you will only see 12 volts on one side of the primary as the other side wiull then be connected to ground thru the horn switch. The contacts will act the exact opposite, 12 volts on only one side of the relay untill you press the horn button, then 12 volts will appear on both sides...
  4. Yes, as Jack mentioned, but there is a limit to how far you can get them back! This has been a big time issue with some of us vertically challenged riders of 1st gens! I was going to have a set of splined spacers made up to bring the whole assembly back an inch or 2 but ended up getting a 2nd gen instead. At least 2nd gens can have risers installed and different handlebar assemblies...
  5. His name is Tony and he has a nice blue 1st gen MK2. I told him about the site and he will most likely become a member. Also mentioned some of the upcoming M&E's and he sounds interested...
  6. Yah!! Those were one of my favorites for old pickups!! Them and Hudson pickups...
  7. Car and bike speakers are 4 ohm impedance. Do not confuse AC impedance with DC resistance, they are not quite the same. Power rating is all a big game. Onen manufacturer's rating may not be the same as anothers, and both will be inflated. Here's some technical jargon. 400 watts peak to peak is 200 watts peak, which is 140 watts rms (root mean square). It's a trick in advertising to appeal to the macho in us all. I'm not saying that the speakers you are looking at are junk, just over rated. We all know that everything we see and read in advertising is the truth, right?!!?
  8. Have you tried the microsoft web site? There may be a clue there to help you fix the problem...
  9. Yah!! I'm thinking that after being on a charger all night, it should have been ready to go!! If it started and then after a ride would not, then I would suspect something in the charging system, but if it won't start after being on a charger, the battery is most likely toast...
  10. See, I knew he would know!!!
  11. Lucky you!!!!! I made an almost as good deal with a Canadian member recently, right color too!! I just have to pick it up sometime this summer when I visit up there. Asking price was VERY reasonable, not free but almost!!
  12. Instead of reading a voltage, take the sendor unit out and read the resistance from the wiper to ground as you carefully move the float thru it's travel. Youm should see it vary from zero ohms to the maximum resistance value. Chances are you need to add tension to the wiper. As a safety factor, those sensors do not receive voltage, they merely increase the resistance to ground Yes, a small voltage will appear at the wiper contacr....

  14. Now, if the band IS switching when you push the push button, tryb reseating the DIN connector on the tuner/amp module from the tuner chassis, and reseat your antenna connector. AM is easier to pick up than FM... Worse case senerio I have a couple of tested tuner/amp modules I'm trying to get rid of!
  15. Yah!! All 1st gen'ers need a supply of new metric screws and bolts, and a good metric tap and die set. That and PB Blaster, and good vice grips...
  16. After chemically stripping, about 10 minutes each with a bench buffer, then clean the grooves with acetone, mineral spirits, or something similar to get the compound out of the grooves, then mask and shoot with black enamel or laquer...
  17. Happy Birthday!!!!!
  18. The coil wire primary and secondary readings look about right although near the edge of spes. A bad coil will be waaaaay out of line with the rest of the coils. Some ohm meters may read a little off from others depending on make and battery level. Unless you bought new wires, it may be time to consider a new set! They don't last forever...
  19. Am praying and will continue to do so!!
  20. I'll be glad to help empty the Southern Comfort!! Yes, old bikes can and will nickel and dime you to death, but in the case of a Venture it's worth it! Sure beats payments on a new one...
  21. Red-Kote is available on Fleabay, works great!! I used a big box of galvanized roofing nails on mine...
  22. Yah! Rivco makes a lot of different motorcycle accdessories! Many 1st gen'ers have bought the spin on adapter for the oil filter. Flags from the PGR website. Funny thing, I was just talking about buying a 2 flag holder for the larger flags for PGR missions as aftyer August I will have time to actually participate in a few...
  23. Local dealer (Pioneer Motorsports) for the convenience, and ventureriders get 15% (sometimes better) discount. As far as matching the tires, like Goose said, their tread patterns are similar so there should be no real problem with them as a combination. Some tread deasigns should be never mixed and matched, just like do not put bias ply on one tire and radial on the other. Most matchups are hardly noticeable unless you are a purist and can feel the slightest variation...
  24. Don't forget about Marcarl's annual M&E on the 28th!!! Shouyld be a great time as always! The Western NY crew would also be glad to meet up with you when you are in the area. Myself I have a 4 day weekend...
  25. Come on up north, we have all you can ever want...
