Need part numbers for 89 VR
bongobobny replied to Jayceesfolly's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Jim, all the parts are the same for all year VR. The screws are nothing special, standard metric screws available at Lowes, etc. Aren't thye metal plates part of the connector?? -
"Innocent" and "Mini" in the same sentence, Hmmmmmm...

As Don mentioned it could be a multitude of things. Perhaps you have a piece of dirt on one of the needle valves causing a leak thru the overflow. You may want to try running a can of Seafoam thru your tank and see if that helps. You use a half can per tankful and drive it like a rental or you stole it...

The front end wobble is more of a 1st gen issue than the 2nd gen, but the reasons for it have already been mentioned above. My 2 cents, bad front tire, loose steering head nut, front shocks not equallly inflated, low tire pressure...

Uhhhh, oil in the air system?? Sounds liks a bad seal on one of the forks or rear shock... -
If the caliper mounts have a different spacing, you actually have a set of forks from a MK2, which is kind of a good thing because now you can have better brakes. You also will have Electronic Anti-Dive, not the hydraulic version, which is also a Good thing as far as the brakes go, but require you to add a relay triggered by the brake light circuit. There are 2 versions of MK2 forks, the early ones very similar to the MK1, and the later version with a set of smal springs as well as the large springs...

Where in Ontario are you??? I may be able to lend you a TCI and/or a coil pack to herlp troubleshoot...

There are two pickups with shared center taps on the coils, for technically 4 coils. The schematic lies in the TM, if I recall right. I think the Black should be the common center tap, not the orange. You should see 4 separate coil readings approximately the same, andf 2 sets of wires where you read twice the resistance. Next test your boost sensor (Vacuum moduloe next to the TC!. With 12 volts applied you choulod see around 2.5 volts. If you, have a vacuum pump you should see the voltage change as you draw vacuum. Because you say the tach drops out I'm hesitant to blame carbs yet, but not to say with the age of the bike and not being run for so long, I'm not entirely ruling them out. You need to try a different TCI if you can, there are diodes in there that can $hit the bed. Also, coils can be intermittant...

Model by Vin ? Help Please
bongobobny replied to asigetic's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
With the exception of California emmissions stuff or metric speedometer, all the parts should be the same. The Venture Standard model did not have the radio or CLASS system whereas the royale does. Wiring harnesses are different slightly between the 2. I forgot what all the different letters stand for but I'm sure someone will chime in. It has been mentioned before.- 9 replies

broken rings or chiped valve?
bongobobny replied to mmaleney's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yah!! Back in my old motorheading days, we made up a fitting that screwed into the spark plug hole and the other end had a schrader. You put the piston to top dead center on the compression stroke and hit it up with air then listened thru the carb, the oil filler, and the exhaust pipe for hissing air... -

Yah! I hope the rain holds off enough for me to fill up the tank for Rickster's M&E next Saturday, gas is 5 cents off on Sunday around here. Soooo discouraged with the rain yesterday I washed the lining of my helmet!! At least we got in a good ride Friday afternoon even if we did get rained on coming home. That's what rain gear is for...

1 Hot bike?
bongobobny replied to Reddog170's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yah! Known fact, MK1 temp gauges read high! Just below the red is pretty normal. I will mention that carbs out of sync will make them run hot as well...
