  1. Thanks to my company downsizing, effective last week, 10/31 I officially joined the ranks of the retired. I always wondered how you knew when you had saved enough to retire. Now I know. At first I was a little pissed but after it set in and I ran through all of the numbers I realized I was ready to retire and should. I've not worked for the last couple of months and I'm really getting used to the time off. I've been catching up on a few household chores and taking a few weekday rides. I'll probably soon get bored enough that I'll get into something a couple of days a week. It's sure nice not to have to worry about solving problems every day. If I can offer a word of advice to those of you still working, SAVE! Dennis
  2. Last day at work, I be retired now!!!!!:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

    retired

I have gone and done it now. I decided I've had enough of the work thing so I'm going to try the retirement thing. What do retired people do?
  5. for gas to get back and forth to work ? I consider myself VERY lucky in that I'm retired but it still costs a couple hundred bucks a month for our 2 vehicles. ( 1 car, 1 truck )
  6. Yup, Jan 1 I retired, just like Dave. When my fellow workers went back to work, I went ice fishing. Even caught some fish. Now I'll do like Dave, whatever I want. Started working in Jan of 1967, after I got out of the navy, and now I'll work at not working. Steve
  7. As of 1 jan. 2012, i am finally retired. People ask me; what are you going to do? My answer, Anything I want to. :cool10::dancefool::big-grin-emoticon::big-grin-emoticon:

  10. ***SIGH*** I'm afraid I've gotten used to the retired lifestyle!! Oh well, only 1 year 4 months to go...
  11. I'm a new member. I am going to buy the clutch up grade from Skydoc_17 for my 99 Venture. I will need someone to help me change it. I live in Hamshire, TX about 6miles from Winnie. I'm retired military and retired from my job. I sure could use the help. I bought the Venture in 03 when my tour was over in Afghanistan. All I've done is put K&N filters, tires changed the oil, and tune up by a mechanic. Dana csmbrak@aol.com
  12. ALMOST makes me wish that I wasn't retired and had a job to stay home from!!! --- ALMOST
  13. Just thought I'd take a moment to introduce myself. I've been lurking in the shadows for a few months now and decided I need you guys more than I thought. My name is Kent Brown and I live in Cedar City UT. I'm a retired Senior Master Sergeant (SMSgt) from the USAF with 33 years time. I also retired as a full time fire Capt about 7 years ago so now I'm twice retired and don't do much except motorcycles and Mustangs, I own 3 of them. One of my "things" is riding across this beautiful country. So I bought an 03 RSV. I like the colors on the 03 and of course I liked the price as well. I bought it because my wife wants to ride to DC with me next May and said she didn't want to ride that far on the Road Star. She told me to buy the Venture so she could go along. You just got to love a woman like that. Anyway I owned a 1st gen Venture (84) until about 8 or 10 years ago and then RA got me and I couldn't ride anymore. Well I got some wonder drugs and now I really don't experience much pain. I'm going to try and go to Oberlin next year for the maintenance day, or whatever it's called, on the way home from Run For The Wall. Then I'm thinking about going to Cody in July. I don't know how to do pictures yet but I'm sure I will learn. Then I'll post some. Well I guess that's about it for now.
  14. No, not me. Shirley semi retired from Lucent 8 years ago and has been working retail part time since. Her social security checks started in May and she quit that job today. We finally got our weekends back.:dancefool: This means your gona have to put up with me more on the meet & eats. Youve been warned.
  15. I have finally gone and done it. Effective today I am retired. I am hoping this is not one of those decisions I'll regret later. After more that 50 years as either a student or teacher, I am now out of school! Graduation was a long time coming! Now I need to start planning some rides(besides M/D)!
  16. Shot

    Helmet Help

I need another helmet. I have a big head but am thinking about one of those flip up full face helmets. I wonder if it is too hot; I live in North Carolina and it gets pretty warm in the summer. Also, price is an issue since I'm retired and still some of money is going to the stimulus package, so I don't have a lot of extra. I ride a 2004 Venture Royal Star. Looking for advice here. Thanks.

  18. I've spent the better part of the night trying to bleed these blasted rear brakes! Fluid will seep out all bleeders but will not build pressure. There's no telling how many brakes I've bled but this is the first that wore me completely out. I retired at 50 so I could spend my golden years riding...not bleeding brakes. Any suggestions? P-L-E-A-S-E.................
  19. Okay, looks like somebody started something and it probably won't end here. One thread asked how many (Active/Retired LEO's in the group) and after this one, somebody will probably ask how many mechanics, etc, etc. But anyway, have had my Class A license for 43 years and have driven just about everything there is right up to 80,000 lbs. I won't tell you about the real overweight trucks I've driven. But did it for 33 years and took a long rest (retired, of which I only drove half a dozen trucks in 10 years of retirement. Went back to work after financial problems, so went back to what I know best and have been driving big rigs again for almost 3 years now. Cadillac's to what I ever drove back in the old days with much more power. :>)
  20. Getting ready to "retire" and am thinking about working with the instruction schools in the area. Wondering how many instructors we have on the site, how you became an instructor and would you be able to supplement retired pay by doing so? Appreciate any comments. Jim T
  21. I am officially retired.........from my present job that is........at least I think so..... I was sposed to be done 3 weeks ago...........but they keep calling me back......and sucker that I am , I keep helping them out... Dale has finally gotten to the other side of the ford plant where they get all the OT they want......so I got to quit my job !!! he had to go on overnights first so I left the overnights I was doing and was going in at 5:30 am when he got home to cover someone who had surgery........well it turned into 3 weeks instead of 1........it was getting too much for Dale to sleep a lil and then get the young un off to school and then go back to bed...( funny tho that that's what I did when I worked overnights and he had no problems with ME doing it )..so he told me to tell em sunday was my last day !!! Lucked out the lady who was off can come back this week.....but when i said to the manager that I'm finally done she said " well don't say that yet " arrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh ! I don't think they really want to lose me but ...............dang I just haven't had time for here..........:hurts:and most of you know about my lovely job and how much I LOVED it....... retired just in time for spring and summer !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
