  1. Waz in Ashville coming out of VA. Stop to eat and the dash went blank several time the engine sputtered then all ok..a few mins later did it again?? Drove back to Spartanburg, SC. waz ok Kinda left me a little concerned..got any Id???
  2. I read this and thought it was worth passing on... you never know when that little action on your part has a big impact on somebody else. A sweet lesson on patience. A NYC Taxi driver wrote: I arrived at the address and honked the horn. After waiting a few minutes I honked again. Since this was going to be my last ride of my shift I thought about just driving away, but instead I put the car in park and walked up to the door and knocked.. 'Just a minute', answered a frail, elderly voice. I could hear something being dragged across the floor. After a long pause, the door opened. A small woman in her 90's stood before me. She was wearing a print dress and a pillbox hat with a veil pinned on it, like somebody out of a 1940's movie. By her side was a small nylon suitcase. The apartment looked as if no one had lived in it for years. All the furniture was covered with sheets. There were no clocks on the walls, no knickknacks or utensils on the counters. In the corner was a cardboard box filled with photos and glassware. 'Would you carry my bag out to the car?' she said. I took the suitcase to the cab, then returned to assist the woman. She took my arm and we walked slowly toward the curb. She kept thanking me for my kindness. 'It's nothing', I told her.. 'I just try to treat my passengers the way I would want my mother to be treated.' 'Oh, you're such a good boy, she said. When we got in the cab, she gave me an address and then asked, 'Could you drive through downtown?' 'It's not the shortest way,' I answered quickly.. 'Oh, I don't mind,' she said. 'I'm in no hurry. I'm on my way to a hospice. I looked in the rear-view mirror. Her eyes were glistening. 'I don't have any family left,' she continued in a soft voice..'The doctor says I don't have very long.' I quietly reached over and shut off the meter. 'What route would you like me to take?' I asked. For the next two hours, we drove through the city. She showed me the building where she had once worked as an elevator operator. We drove through the neighborhood where she and her husband had lived when they were newlyweds She had me pull up in front of a furniture warehouse that had once been a ballroom where she had gone dancing as a girl. Sometimes she'd ask me to slow in front of a particular building or corner and would sit staring into the darkness, saying nothing. As the first hint of sun was creasing the horizon, she suddenly said, 'I'm tired.Let's go now'. We drove in silence to the address she had given me. It was a low building, like a small convalescent home, with a driveway that passed under a portico. Two orderlies came out to the cab as soon as we pulled up. They were solicitous and intent, watching her every move. They must have been expecting her. I opened the trunk and took the small suitcase to the door. The woman was already seated in a wheelchair. 'How much do I owe you?' She asked, reaching into her purse. 'Nothing,' I said 'You have to make a living,' she answered. 'There are other passengers,' I responded. Almost without thinking, I bent and gave her a hug.She held onto me tightly. 'You gave an old woman a little moment of joy,' she said. 'Thank you.' I squeezed her hand, and then walked into the dim morning light.. Behind me, a door shut.It was the sound of the closing of a life.. I didn't pick up any more passengers that shift. I drove aimlessly lost in thought. For the rest of that day,I could hardly talk. What if that woman had gotten an angry driver,or one who was impatient to end his shift? What if I had refused to take the run, or had honked once, then driven away? On a quick review, I don't think that I have done anything more important in my life. We're conditioned to think that our lives revolve around great moments. But great moments often catch us unaware-beautifully wrapped in what others may consider a small one.
  3. WE'RE NOT QUITE READY FOR THIS YET................!!! I stopped at your house the other day and was told you were down at your favorite biker bar with some friends. I wasn't sure where that was, but was told I wouldn't have much trouble finding it. Sure enough, I drove just a couple blocks and there it was... http://us.mg5.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=2%5f0%5f0%5f1%5f3509026%5fAA1bimIAACWTT5CrBA3kAVxLh5Q&pid=2.2&fid=Inbox&inline=1&appid=YahooMailNeo There is nothing like the feeling of the sun on your face and the wind in your hair (?), is there?

  5. i just want to give a big thanks to eusa1 his wife and daughter and rick haywood for comming down and moving my bike out of storage and getting it up on its center stand in the back yard of my apartment. mike eusa1 drove it home and did most of the grunt work he drove it right up in the yard like a pro and that grass hill aint fun. we got boards under the front tire and center stand my thanks to his daughter for helping with the boards she a fine young lady. and rick watched the right side of the bike. this team made it look like a well planed pit crew in no time they had it up parked and stowed. and then where off to the rootbeer stand for some cold rootbeer. and some talk then the time came to part ways as it is hot as heck out there. i just hope they take it easy on the way home and stay cool and rick nice meeting you as well i enjoyed the afternoon with you great pepole....
  6. Just put this on, and it will start the show itself. Turn up your speakers! Someone did an awesome job putting this together and with sound to boot. At the very end of the video you'll hear the song 'Thunder Road,' sung by the star of the movie for which it was the theme! Not uncommon, except this is the one and only song ever recorded, for publication, sung by Robert Mitchum! Cars we drove in the 50's and 60's.....click on line below. http://cruzintheavenue.com/CarsWeDrove.htm
  7. NOT REALLY NOTICING MUCH CHANGE FROM STAGE 2 TO 3 WITH THE ROADKINGS I TOOK THE STEPS OF OPENING THE OUTLET END BY PUNCHING 4 HOLES INTO THE METAL SURROUNDING THE INNER BAFFLE. SIMILAR TO DRILLING THE INLET END.; USED A POINTED TAPERED TOOL AND DROVE IT IN UNTIL THE HOLE WAS ABOUT 3/8 OR SO IN DIAMETER. TOOK ALL OF 1 MINUTE PER SIDE NOW SOUNDS MUCH BETTER AT ALL SPEEDS, LIKE A GROWL BUT STILL NOT AFTERMARKET LOUD..
  8. OK, I have to fess up that I did it in my 2005 Chrysler 300c "Cage". Nicknamed the USS Saratoga. It corners a bit better than that ship though! My son and I were in N. Carolina most of the week starting with last Saturday, to set up hotels and venues for a car convention we put on each year. We were looking at the Chapel Hill/Raleigh-Durham areas, and also Charlotte. (The NASCAR Hall of Fame is WONDERFUL and a must see if you get to that area!). On the way back to Illinois we decided (well I decided, and my son, a non rider) went along with it! I drove the first time through all of rt 129, and he drove back to the dragons den hotel/restaurant etc. We ate lunch there watching bikes come and go, and then drove the skyway on the way back to IL. We had a blast, and only one Harley caught up to me, and another bike caught up to my son. We let both by as soon as possible, but were proud that our cage was able to keep up with all other traffic, in fact other than those two bikes we never saw anyone else going our direction, only bikes (and not a lot) going the other way. There were two accidents, one had an ambulance and one did not, both were on the skyway. I am glad I got to do it in my car, I will be much better prepared when I take my bike out that way, hopefully later this month or next.
  9. Been shopping for a different SUV for my wife so today we will be picking up an 08 Lincoln MKX with 9,000 miles. She's been driving an 07 Pacifica but we got a good deal that we couldn't turn down. We drove the Pacifica for 2 years and will get 2,000 less than we paid for it. Also, we are getting the MKX @ way below NADA book.

  11. This is from my daughter, Jacque, who works with the guy who actually did this in Huntsville! Enjoy! Bobbie "Good news is that I truly outdid myself this year with my Christmas decorations. The bad news is that I had to take him down after two days. I had more people come screaming up to my house than ever. Great stories. But two things made me take it down. First, the cops advised me that it would cause traffic accidents as they almost wrecked when they drove by. Second, a 55 year old lady grabbed the 75 pound ladder almost killed herself putting it against my house and didn’t realize that it was fake until she climbed to the top (she was not happy). By the way, she was one of the many people who attempted to do that. My yard couldn’t take it either. I have more than a few tire tracks where people literally drove up my yard"
  12. i couldnt resist snapping a photo of this spot when we drove by it.......remember it well eh?????:rotf:
  13. So I drove down to Eva Alabama on Monday to help my Bro In-law move. We turned around and drove home Tuesday morning. I was on US24 on that little section that dips down into GA from TN heading to Chattanooga. The ONLY RSV I spotted on the whole dang trip was around exit 169 head North/West. It was a purty blue and so shinny it almost hurt to look at. Who was it? Art~

    The last taxi ride

I arrived at the address where someone had requested a taxi. I honked but no one came out. I honked again, nothing. So I walked to the door and knocked. 19. Im sure glad I dont work on piece work basis, or id be a poor miserable B*****d...... Anyway, finally got the rectifier wired back up. All sealed, heat shrunk, soldered and best of all, charging like theres no tomorrow. It was a royal PIA but well worth the time in the end. I know I drove some of you nuts with my phone calls. Thanks for the help. I'll go away now....
  20. We patrol the camp about three times a day. This evening at 6:00 pm I turned into the access road and could see a vehicle parked beside the same rose bush that was stole last time. As I drove closer I noticed a woman standing on our road bank. When I got up next to her car she was getting back inside as I drove by I noticed fresh dirt where a rose had been. I done an immediate U-turn and pulled in front of her car and blocked her in. I confronted her and ask her why she just stole my rose bush? She flatly denied stealing it so I took her licensee plate number and told her you got 5 minutes to put it back or I will report this incident. I'll be back in 5 minutes to check it out. I drove the mile home and called MamaMo. She couldn't wait to get home and open up a big can of whoop #!@ on her. When I drove back down the woman was watching from a distance to see if I would return. Sure enough the rose bush was back where it was. Moral of the story is buy your wife a rose once in a while she might leave your neighbors alone. This is a neighbor who drives by every day. Get this she even called me one night to tell me someone may have broken into my camp and just thought I should know. I hope MamaMo is in a better mood when she gets home. I would hate to think I'm leaving for the beach in a week and she is in jail. What would I do with out her at the beach? Fish,Ride the bike, Check out the ladies on the beach! Hmmmmmm?
  21. Okay, looks like somebody started something and it probably won't end here. One thread asked how many (Active/Retired LEO's in the group) and after this one, somebody will probably ask how many mechanics, etc, etc. But anyway, have had my Class A license for 43 years and have driven just about everything there is right up to 80,000 lbs. I won't tell you about the real overweight trucks I've driven. But did it for 33 years and took a long rest (retired, of which I only drove half a dozen trucks in 10 years of retirement. Went back to work after financial problems, so went back to what I know best and have been driving big rigs again for almost 3 years now. Cadillac's to what I ever drove back in the old days with much more power. :>)

  25. Damn I hate that. Haven't ridden the RSV for 4 weeks as it's either been to cold or too wet - or I've been too busy. Saturday did a 350kms round trip in the Subie to pick my son up from where he delivered his motorhome to the new owners. Sunday my wife and I drove 200kms in the other direction to deliver him to his fiancee, then we drove 200kms back home. Arrived around 2:30pm and the boss (wife) says, "Well, I'm going to do some more painting on the house, what are you going to do?" WHAT A QUESTION! I already had my jeans on and I was looking at my new bike boots in the corner. Quick as a flash I pulled the boots on, pulled on my vest and my jacket, went out to my bike shed and put on my helmet and gloves, put the key in the ignition of the RSV, turned her on - lights on and a brrrrrrrrrrrrrr of the fuel pump etc. Choke out, hit starter button. Cranked 3 or 4 times, THEN DIED. Ran out of crank, oomph and all the other things it needed to start. Been sitting too long. Off with the seat, off with the negative cable, on with the charger - and 4 hours later lots of power. But- it's now dark and too damned cold to do anything. So, I put it back together, went inside and had a couple of beers. Oh well, some other day maybe? Damn I hate that!
