I have a friend that has one, I think it's an 87????, smooth, quiet, but not the same bike as the first gen. Too much plastic to take off for service, sits the same as former Wings, widshield is too large, not very nimble, poor electronics, but has some good features. He has over 300,000 km on it and it's still running strong, even with his style of maintainence, which is a little as needed.

Tell him to be careful with all that power, ease into it slowly like until he gets used to it. We want to see him around for a day or two. And congrats on the awesme looking machine.

Times were and hopefully won't be again, that I had a sore back, sore enough to pretty much immobilize me, so I laid down most times. Could most times stand up 'straight' and walk, but bending and sitting was just not to be done. Found the best therapy was to ride a farm tractor on ploughed fields,,, or later when I got my scoot,,, just to go for a ride. It made me move in each and everyway way and so loosened up things that were on the tight side,,,, worked for me.

In my opinion there would be no adverse effects if you done that, but if the seals are leaking, it's time for an upgrade, not just for the sake of leaking oil, but more importantly for the sake of safety. Your front forks have a lot to with stopping and cornering and any compromise to the system adds to the danger level of riding. Ride with compromised front forks if you want, but let's not hear any complaints about others who may compromise your ride, such as left turners, lane changers and others who may not have seen you. Not that the one has any bearing on the other, but if you don't play as safe as possible,,,, need I say more? I went on long enough already.

Trunk rack for 1st gens
Marcarl replied to Beau-Kat's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Got them from our local Stainless manufacturer. Don't know the tickness, but I would guess about 18 gauge. Cost me a bag of pepperettes. Was just scrap to them more or less. If you want some, let me know and I see what it costs. -

All good info so far. Henkels, Wustof, Chicago, or maybe even Victorinox, Horschner, F.Dick, which are pro style knives. Almost any good quality knives will do as well as some cheap ones. We were given a set of cheap knives when we got married 40 years ago and they are still being used today, so price may not have as much to do with the issue as maybe they user. Keep your knives in a wood block, never wash in the dishwasher (they bang around too much), don't cut on anything else but wood, don't cut on anything else but wood, use the knive, wash the knive and then put it away. Do not lay it on the counter or behind the sink. When sharping it with a steel, less is more, more edges are lost do to over stropping on a steel, than what help might have been gained. Fingers are nicked and lost more to dull knives than to sharp ones. A sharp knife will cut where you intended it to cut, but a dull knife will cause you to exert extra pressure and then have it shoot through. Hope you don't get tooooo confused. Carl

waterpump Hose neede

Go for one from the dealer,,, not to expensive and you won't have to worry about it's age -
That might be a problem at the standstill, but once moving the 'holding up' part is in the control of the right hand and the gyro effect of the turning wheels. Now that's all that I'll inject into this conversation, mainly because I limit my output of info directly to the amount of input at any one time, and seeing as there was no real input at any one time on this issue, it would not look good on me to go spouting off more than I already don't know. (or something like that)

Hey, we don't mind a post every so often, we do need to be updated 'cause we all worry about Taters,,,,,, but if you is typing the way you is, you is not keeping up near good enough,,, poor Taters, having to watch what goes on and then not being able to do anything about it,,,,, now back to work, you can't let it come undone.

I'll bet the riders are changing year by year,,,,, least the ones I get to see every so often.

transmission / shifting trouble
Marcarl replied to massey130's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
You are now in the clutch area. The shaft I was refering to is on the other side, out in the open, it goes from the heel and toe shifter to the middle gear cover. It's knurled at each end and you might have some slippage there. This doesn't sound like an internal issue to me,,,, just doesn't seem to make any sense to be internal. -
Pressure sounds like it's within tolerances. wonder what kind of tire you put on, and did you go with the smaller front tire? The first plce I would look would be the mounting of the rear tire. make sure it's tight and true. When you go to install there is a procedure to follow. Loosen off the swing arm from the pumpkin, then install tire and axle, and rotate the and then rotate the axle so that it feels an at 'home place'. It may feell a little tighter in some places during the rotation than at others, so you need to feel for the best place to have it. Now tighten the axle and then tighten the swing arm back on the pumkin. Maybe this will help. Carl

transmission / shifting trouble
Marcarl replied to massey130's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Check the ends of the shift shaft to make sure they are no slipping on the shafts that they are tightened on to. There is one at the front of the shaft and one at the back, just under the cover you removed. -
Good news Dan,,,,Say Hi to the missus,,,,,aka Warden,,,, and keep posting every hour on the hour, that way we'll know if you are suviving or not.

I've heard that there is no such thing as 'bad publicity' and I think that statement is absolutly correct. HD has got to love threads and discussion such as this one,,, but then so do I, lots of interesting info here,,,, keep it up guys, I need to get smarter,,, and that's not easy at my age.
