  2. This is the lyrics to a Kenny Chesney song and it describes how I feel today & most days .... We never know when our lives will change with a phone call that no one ever wants to get .....In rememberance of my son Garrett Heath Harden 8/4/89- 12/11/98 tho it has been 16 yrs I still wear the pain like a heavy coat...The only thing that gives me hope,is I know I'll see him again some day. "Who You'd Be Today" Sunny days seem to hurt the most. I wear the pain like a heavy coat. I feel you everywhere I go. I see your smile, I see your face, I hear you laughin' in the rain. I still can't believe you're gone. It ain't fair: you died too young, Like the story that had just begun, But death tore the pages all away. God knows how I miss you, All the hell that I've been through, Just knowin' no-one could take your place. An' sometimes I wonder, Who'd you be today?
  3. Hey Folks, I'm on a 6000 mile hike through the US... Currently in Phoenix (week of May 19th), Next week Houston (Week of 26th) with 5 days over the weekend to enjoy (I hope). I'm looking for New OEM (take-off), Used OEM to swap out before i keep going. Will consider trade, cash, beer or whatever else won't get me arrested. Thanks G
  4. Well Christmas was a great day. Spent with the family enjoying good food and good company. The kids all left in the evening. Sharon and I cleaned up and kicked back and relaxed. I fell asleep on the couch about 10 or so a friend from CA called woke me up. I noticed that Sharon had gone to bed. My friend and I talked about a hour or so had been a while since we had talked. While we were talking I noticed a little jaw pain but didnt think nothing of it. We hung up and I finally fell back asleep. about 5AM I woke with serve jaw pain, arm pain and chest pain. Sharon just happened to wake up and asked if I was alright and I told her I have issues. lol Well smart girl that she is she called 911. First responders were here within 5 mins and I was on my way to the hospital 30 miles away in Mountain Home AR. To my surprise they found 3 blocked arteries in my heart. one 99% blocked which they put in a stint. one 90% blocked to be stinted in the next few weeks and one 45% blocked to be treated with meds. After 3 days in hospital Im home relaxing and feeling so much better. So here is to a better year.

  6. Today somehow while getting out of my SUV I got a shooting pain starting at my ankle and up my leg that almost put me on the ground. Just got back from Urgent care and I have a severely sprained ankle, I have never had so much pain, I thought I had broken something. So no work, no riding, no much of anything for a few days, it could be better by Monday or it may take a while have to use crutches, which I am not very good with........and to top it off, this was supposed to be a good day for me, but it was a rotten day, things didnt go well at work, my car didnt pass emissions test, had it tested to the tune of $94.00 to find out it was my gas cap, thats when I sprained my ankle, at the testing center. What a way to spend my birthday.
  7. Hello Everyone: Just letting you know that Mom passed away today after a battle with Cancer. I appreciate everyones comments when she went on hospice over 10 days ago. Thankful she is no longer in pain. Both parents gone in the last 60 days, what a year. Thanks...Mark
  8. either before or long after the meds have worn off. ie: Last Saturday Linda and I went to a benefit swiss steak dinner. Saturday evening she started having pains that were thought to be indigestion and by Sunday noon they were near unbearable. ER here we come. Gall bladder and chest/shoulder pain. After 6 hours of tests and waiting she was admitted to the hospital. After a couple scans of some sort it was decided to do a cat scan. The result of all the tests was inflamed gall bladder and a wire tube running from her chest area to her abdomen. Of course there's a lot more to it but the bottom line is that the pain dissipated after 2 days and we now wonder how she made it the the airports without an international incident. The Dr's office said the Intraperitoneal 'tube' was on her chart, however it seems that nobody told either one of us about it even being installed during her ovarian cancer surgery. Now we both have concerns about it because the port for her chemo caused blood clots because it was left in too long and as everybody knows, blood clots are no fun and can be deadly. Sorry about the long verbage -
  9. I finally have time to donate to the 86, I fixed the tail light this morning which wasn't working and synced the carbs now I am replacing the tires. The homemade trailer hitch is a BIG PAIN in the BUTT I think the next time I change the rear I will get rid of it.I am getting to old to keep doing this stuff.
  10. My new to me Chrsler Sebring Convertiable has developed it's first glitch. Now the Air bag dash board indicator light keeps coming on, then goes out, then comes back on with a ping warning sound everytime it comes back on. About every 30 to 60 seconds. Does anyone know why it may do this and can tell me how to make it quit doing that. The regular pingging sound is kinda a pain in the arse.
  11. Been dealing with herniated discs in my lower back for three weeks now....sure is putting a damper on my life and riding this fall....tired of restless nights and sleeping in chairs.....many trips to the chiropractor ....it has gotten a little better but, I'm afraid to do anything around the house because I don't want to make it worse....winter is around the corner and I have things that need to be done...I start a job and soon quit because of pain and in fear of doing more damage.....Gonna have to call in the grandkids for some free labor (yes they are cheap).....Not complaining, just hate not being 100%........now where is that ice bag.......?
  12. Usually after a ride of more than 100 miles my lower legs tend to swell and have internal throbbing pain. Anyone else experience this after a ride?
  13. Ok now that I have to much time on my hands and need help bathing do you think if I e-mail Lindsay Lohan and tell her I have pain killers and beer she will come give me a sponge bath? I think it is worth a shot. Tom
  14. Froggy said to expect more aches and pain in the 40's. I didn't plain on gall bladder surgery and a hurt back in the same year within a couple months. Fell on June 1st at work and hurt my back (top, middle and lower). Still off work. Still some pain. Been going to the chiropractor. No Bike rides for us so far this year.:bawling:Hard for me not to do things I see that need done.
  15. Well I lasted exactly 2 days back to work after my bout of Pneumonia before I had to go back to the E/R, this time the chest pains were so, so bad, we thought it was the big one, I have never had pain so excrutiating ever before, so back we went to the ER. This time things didnt go as smoothly as the last time, got there just before the changing of shifts and to complicate matters, they started looking at all the results from my last visit one week ago and were ready to discharge me before the even did chest x-rays and had all the blood tested. We,Charlene and I told them I havent even had any meds yet, how can you discharge me with all this pain and trouble breathing. They said all the test were good and that the xrays ............Wrong I told them that they haven't done one damn thing yet, they were looking at old test. Then another doctor came in and started all over again. Take more blood since the other was still sitting on the cart, it went bad. Didnt like this one either, he seemed to be in a hurry to get rid of me till Charlene started asking it they tested for this and that, he left and came back later and said he did as she asked and everything looked good. It wasnt my heart, or my gall bladder or any other organ, no blood clot in the lungs or a collasped lung. What I had was still Pneumonia complicated by plusiary What really mad me mad is all they did for me was give me a bunch of pain killers to stop the pain but no antibiotics by IV like they did last time.......just more prescriptions and no work, so now I go back to my Dr. on Monday and see what they say. Life stinks right now, I am so tired of being sick, I actually miss work, and I cant work on the 1st gen right now, and time is running out to get it ready by Vogel. End of Rant............
  16. I've seen quite a few posts on how much air to use ect but can't find anything on how to let some of the air out of the shocks. Last couple times I just took the hose off the pump and let it out but that's kind of a pain. Anyone got an easier way? Thanks in advance. Oh by the way this is on a 2008 RSTD.
  17. I have been having some low back pain now for several weeks, I just got over a bout of Bursitis, which was very, very painful, I had an appointment for followup from that today. While at work today I was leaning up against a table in an office just resting and all of a sudden something pinched really really bad in my lower back and I almost hit the floor. I didnt really think much about it and took some pain meds. Later I starting noticing how painful it was to walk and everytime I put weight on my right foot it hurt my back like hell. So I went to the Dr. as scheduled and told him what was going on and he examined me and sent me for some x-rays. When he came back in the room the cheery smile was gone from his face as he sat down to show Charlene and I the results. First thing was I have scoliosis in my lower back, a little higher up signs of arthritis, and then the real bad part was a slipped vertebrae that was causing the pinching and pain. I couldnt believe there would be that much. So now I have to go back next week to a spine dr. and have either an MRI or CAT scan. No new pain meds cause I am already on them and they aint working, so he prescribed Steroids, in massive dose, went to get it filled and its backoredered from the mfg. Nobody had them, now I have to wait another day for the Dr to change the script. And I am also going to physical therapy to see if that helps..........Now I am seeing some of the same Dr.'s that Charlene was seeing for all of her problems...............Cant catch a break:bang head: All of this and Vogel 2 months away!!!!!!!!!!!!. :crying:
  18. I may have relief coming to my acute lower back pain. I saw a nuero surgeon today and he said my only really viable option is to have a Lumbar Discectomy. This has been scheduled for this coming Friday morning. He said physical therapy and epidural shots would not be effective. This is the third doctor I have seen for this, first surgeon. 1st was a chiropractor that wanted to do a modern form of traction that he said had a chance to fix it, insurance wouldn't cover. Didn't like his sales pitch, but he did get an MRI ordered which showed extent of problem. My family doctor said surgery was likely the only option and referred me to this surgeon. He was a very likable doctor, not uppity like some can be. He went over all the required talk about risks and potential problems and said he had to wait at least a week to do surgery because I am taking a high dosage of motrin with percocets and the motrin cause blood thinning. Have to let that clear up first. For the last 8 weeks I have had rapidly increasing lower back pain and numbness in my lower left leg. This is a life changing type pain. I am on 8 percocets a day and the pain is still as bad as kidney stone I had several years back. The disc between my L4-L5 vertebra has herniated and is pushing against my back & leg nerves. The MRI report said there was a10 x 13mm extrusion nearly filling the spinal canal. Doctor said the surgery would be about 2 hours and be 1 or 2 incisions about 2" long. I will be able to go home the same day. I should have immediate releif from the pain if surgery is successful. They said I would be able to walk around and was encouraged to get mild exercise starting the next day. I may still make MD in Oberlin, but it won't be on the bike. Won't know till a few days after surgery. If I can't make it I will need a volunteer to follow up with the dinner Friday night at Quaker Steak & Lube so I don't dump this on Don. Isn't much, just getting a rough head count and calling restaurant. Wish me luck, I'm going in. This is a surgery I am looking forward to getting, it's that painful. Gary
  19. I went to Home Depot recently while not being altogether sure that course of action was a wise one. You see, the previous evening I had prepared and consumed a massive quantity of my patented "you're definitely going to $hit yourself, road-kill chili". Tasty stuff, albeit hot to the point of being painful, which comes with a written guarantee from me that if you eat it, the next day your butt cheeks might fall off! Here's the thing. I had awakened that morning, and even after two cups of coffee (and all of you know what I mean) nothing happened. No 'Watson's Movement 2'. Despite habanera peppers swimming their way through my intestinal tract, I was unable to create the usual morning symphony referred to by my dear wife as 'thunder and lightning'. Knowing that a time of reckoning HAD to come, yet not sure of just when, I bravely set off for Home Depot, my quest being paint and supplies to refinish the den. Upon entering the store at first all seemed normal. I selected a cart and began pushing it about dropping items in for purchase. It wasn't until I was at the opposite end of the store from the restrooms that the pain hit me. Oh, don't look at me like you don't know what I'm talking about. I'm referring to that 'Uh, Oh, $hit, gotta go' pain that always seems to hit us at the wrong time. The thing is, this pain was different. The habaneras in the chili from the night before were staging a revolt. In a mad rush for freedom they bullied their way through the small intestines, forcing their way into the large intestines, and before I could take one step in the direction of the restrooms which would bring sweet relief, it happened. The peppers fired a warning shot. There I stood, alone in the paint and stain section, suddenly enveloped in a noxious cloud the likes of which has never before been recorded. I was afraid to move for fear that more of this vile odor might escape me. Slowly, oh so slowly, the pressure seemed to leave the lower part of my body, and I began to move up the aisle and out of it, just as a red aproned clerk turned the corner and asked if I needed any help. I don't know what made me do it, but I stopped to see what his reaction would be to the malodorous effluvium that refused to dissipate.. Have you ever been torn in two different directions emotionally? Here's what I mean, and I'm sure some of you at least will be able to relate. I could've warned that poor clerk, but didn't. I simply watched as he walked into an invisible, and apparently indestructible, wall of odor so terrible that all he could do before gathering his senses and running, was to stand there blinking and waving his arms about his head as though trying to ward off angry bees.. This, of course, made me feel terrible, but then made me laugh. .......BIG mistake!!!!! Here's the thing. When you laugh, it's hard to keep things 'clamped down', if you know what I mean. With each new guffaw an explosive issue burst forth from my nether region. Some were so loud and echoing that I was later told a few folks in other aisles had ducked, fearing that someone was robbing the store and firing off a shotgun. Suddenly things were no longer funny. 'It' was coming, and I raced off through the store towards the restrooms, laying down a cloud the whole way, praying that I'd make it before the grand mal a$$-plosion took place. Luck was on my side. Just in the nick of time I got to the john, began the inevitable 'Oh my God', floating above the toilet seat because my ass is burning SO BAD, purging. One poor fellow walked in while I was in the middle of what is the true meaning of 'Shock and Awe'. He made a gagging sound, and disgustedly said, 'Son-of-a-b__ch! Did it smell that bad when you ate it?', then quickly left. Once finished and I left the restroom, reacquired my partially filled cart intending to carry on with my shopping when a store employee approached me and said, 'Sir, you might want to step outside for a few minutes. It appears some prankster set off a stink bomb in the store. The manager is going to run the vent fans on high for a minute or two which ought to take care of the problem.' My smirking of course set me off again, causing residual gases to escape me. The employee took one sniff, jumped back pulling his shirt up to cover his nose and, pointing at me in an accusing manner shouted, 'IT'S YOU!', then ran off returning moments later with the manager. I was unceremoniously escorted from the premises and asked none too kindly not to return. Home again without my supplies, I realized that there was nothing to eat but leftover chili, so I consumed two more bowls. The next day I went to shop at Lowes. I can't say anymore about that because we are in court over the whole matter. Ba$tards claim they're going to have to repaint the store.
  20. Hello Everyone: Just wanted to thank everyone who commented on Flanders handlebar upgrade. It convinced me to order the bars. I installed the bars on Saturday and rode 300 pain free miles on Sunday. No more burning neck pain!!!! I will try to get around to getting pictures posted. I came up with a very good easy cheap way to save the bar weights. Any questions are welcome. I am glad to provide advise just like all you have done. Thanks......
  21. Now that Charlene is on her way to recovery, its starting all over!!! For the past 2-3 weeks I have been having a pain in my right hip area, at first thought it was a pulled muscle, but its getting to the point that I am not able to sleep in my bed at all, no matter how I lay I am in terrible pain, last night I had to sleep in the recliner with my legs elevated to alleviate the pain. I am having a hard time walking, and numbness in my right leg, these are the same symptons Charlene had when her hip starting acting up on her, but mine was a sudden onset and I cant believe the amount of pain it is causing me. I have an appointment with the orthopedist Monday, I was lucky to get the appt so quick, I guess since Charlene is a regular patient there it helps. This timing of this is lousy......... So if you folks could say a few prayers for me, I would greatly appericate it.............
  22. I have just had the sad news from my sister that my 20 year old nephew was in so much personal pain, that he took his own life! Rest in peace Chris. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk.
  23. Oy. A brief moment of carelessness and I snapped the end of my tach needle off. I already had it removed from the tach shaft (the hardest part), too. Does anybody have a nonfunctional tach (or speedometer, for that matter) they don't mind either sharing the whole thing with me or sending me the needle from? It's kind of a pain to pop off but it will come with a little coaxing. I will later reveal my project if I can score a new needle.
  24. The pastor asked if anyone in the congregation would like to express praise for answered prayers. Suzie Smith stood and walked to the podium. She said, "I have a praise. Two months ago, my husband, Tom, had a terrible motorcycle wreck and his scrotum was completely crushed. The pain was excruciating and the doctors didn't know if they could help him." You could hear a muffled gasp from the men in the congregation as they imagine the pain that poor Tom must have experienced. "Tom was unable to hold me or the children," she went on, "and every move caused him terrible pain." We prayed as the doctors performed a delicate operation, and it turned out they were able to piece together the crushed remnants of Tom's scrotum, and wrap wire around it to hold it in place." Again, the men in the congregation cringed and squirmed uncomfortably as they imagined the horrible surgery performed on Tom. "Now," she announced in a quivering voice, "thank the Lord, Tom is out of the hospital and the doctors say that with time, his scrotum should recover completely." All the men sighed with unified relief. The pastor rose and tentatively asked if anyone else had something to say. A man stood up and walked slowly to the podium. He said, "I'm Tom Smith." The entire congregation held its breath. "I just want to tell my wife the word is sternum."
  25. My wife and I were sitting in the living room me reading my mag and she reading hers. all of a sudden she ask's, How many ribs do you have ?
