  1. On my previous bike I played with jetting a lot. In the end, I had more power (not verified with factual evidence) but I lost about five mpg. I have read comments here about carb mods and I am very hesitant to try anything for fear I might not be pleased with the results. Does anyone have dyno runs or other data regarding changes to carbs or air intake?
  2. Is there a list of words that are currently "Off limits" for subects in the wateringhole? I know politics are off limits... but what else? 99.99999 percent of my theads have been Motorcycle related. There have been many non-motorcycle related threads on this forum. My fear is that a very few here, are going to go out of their way, to get threads deleted they don't like. thanks in advance Joe
  3. So I got my scare of the year in today. Scared the dang * bajeebers right out of me. Riding down the street in town, :7_6_3[1]:flow of traffic , 35ish mph. Listening to 70’s music and watching a young gal riding my @ss. Hit my brakes several times trying to get her to back off a little. I saw her swerve hard right to change lanes… what I didn’t notice was what she cut off to do it. There was a LARGE delivery truck in the other lane. One that had a very LARGE set of air horns on the roof, right over the drivers head. This put the air horns about a car length behind and 3 ½ feet over my right shoulder. He let go with a blast of air horns that had me jumping up, ducking for cover, looking “under” my shoulder and all around all at the same time ! I was trying to figure out what was going to kill me in milliseconds. Once I obtained my composure back, I continued to ride, with a pulse rate in the high 210’s and a blood pressure level too high to read. Several lights later the truck pulled up alongside me as we slowed for the light. The driver hanging half out of the window apologized profusely stating that she almost hit his front changing lanes and it was just his reaction to hit the horns… I could tell he felt bad. I’m guessing he had observed my reactions at the sound of his horn and also felt bad about the draining * bajeebers from the bottom of the foot pegs..…. * Definition of Bajeebers: Noun and action verb. Describes a level of fear that can cause massive unexpected, and uncontrollable loss of bowel functions, high pulse rate, fear of immediate death and rapid heart palpitations. Bajeebers can also be the end result of such fear often accumulating in underwear, pant legs and socks. Occasionally associated with fear level of 9.72 and higher on a scale of 1-10. Sometimes related to a rat’s @ss but not related to a round tuit
  4. Well folks, you try your best to raise your children right but what do you do when they finally do something that is a complete embarrassment to you. From the time they are born. You try to set a good example. Yea, we often fall short but we do our best and hope that they learn the important things that they need to know to get through this life. Now those of you who have sons can surely relate. Things are much different today than they were when I was a kid. Back then, those of us with a bit of a wild streak would drive our fathers crazy by sneaking out and riding our motorcycles all night, getting in fights in the smoking area at school, having a good pocket knife taken away by a teacher. Heck...I've even had the local police call my dad to tell him that they caught, but let me go, for having a couple of cold ones in my car. All things things and a lot more that I know caused some premature gray hair for my dad. In spite of doing my best though, I still always had that little bit of fear nagging deep inside. It got worse when Dylan started driving. Though I know that he is basically a very good kid and has never caused me any real trouble, I also know that we as parents certainly don't know everything. You worry that he will end up having a few beers with friends and the police will call late one night....luckily that never happened. You worry that you find out that they were busted drag racing on some deserted road. That never happened. The biggest fear of all is that they come home one day and tell you that they have gotten a girl in trouble. Always a big fear...hasn't happened. So just when I thought that we had made it past most of these things....tonight Dylan calls me with news that I never thought I would have to hear. Though he had alluded to it in passing a couple of times...I had simply told him to NOT become an embarrassment to me and I thought he had listened. I guess not.......................so......... I may as well say it...my son is....well....he has admitted to being an APPLE fan and as of today was notified that he has been hired by APPLE. Now he is in college and it is a part time job at a local Apple retail store but still....APPLE. I guess I should blame myself. We should have never moved to Ohio. I could have stayed in Texas...maybe moved to the Austin area so that he could be near Dell. I still tried though....he has been raised on Dell computers. I just assumed that he would grow up to be a PC man. But APPLE??????? To add insult to injury....he threw it in my face that he would be able to get me a discount on a new Apple computer. Oh why couldn't he have just gotten a girl in trouble.
  5. These guys are absolutely insane! http://zanylol.com/insane_race.html
  6. Been dealing with herniated discs in my lower back for three weeks now....sure is putting a damper on my life and riding this fall....tired of restless nights and sleeping in chairs.....many trips to the chiropractor ....it has gotten a little better but, I'm afraid to do anything around the house because I don't want to make it worse....winter is around the corner and I have things that need to be done...I start a job and soon quit because of pain and in fear of doing more damage.....Gonna have to call in the grandkids for some free labor (yes they are cheap).....Not complaining, just hate not being 100%........now where is that ice bag.......?
  7. Well, I sold the '07 2 weeks ago. I always said I would keep the Venture over the Road Star but I knew the Venture would sell faster and for more $$. Why did I need to sell either one? I have no time to enjoy it because of a combination of added hours at work... and the time I do have my wife and I spend at the property that we bought last year, working on getting it ready for a home. (We spent ALLL day yesterday burning a brush pile in 95+ degree weather.) But, fear not! (or Fear a lot!) I'll have another in a year or so once we get settled in the new place. But, I may give in to temptation. I find myself scanning Search Tempest lately and almost called on a Millennium edition last week but I talked myself out of it. And I'll still be hanging around here just as always.
  8. To anyone who is or was a fireman/firefighter, my hat is off to you. I've just completed the helicopter crash rescue phase of my tech course in the navy, and it has been the most physically intensive course I've ever been on. I'm aching in places I never even knew I had! I also don't fear fire like I did before, I still respect it, but don't fear it. I also have a newfound deep respect for any firefighter who is putting their life on the line, either professionally or as a local volunteer. Thank you all!
  9. This would have been quite an honor in which to participate. I fear we all have too soon forgotten a valuable lesson... http://www.usatoday.com/news/sept11/2008-08-23-memorial_N.htm?csp=15
  10. I removed the rear wheel and put grease on the drive shaft and wheel splines. I could not get the hub off I removed the retaining clip but still could not get it to come off, I did not want to pry on it for fear of damaging the hub or the rubber seal. Any ideas? Dale
