  1. Sounds to me that the info so far is correct. You have air in the lines and so when you squeeze the handle you are not releasing the clutch entirely, which will make it hard to shift, if not impossible. Try to shift with the engine off and and you'll see what I mean. So once you get the air out of the system, you should be good to go, unless you get more air in there, and then you'll need to fix that problem.
  2. Run a couple of wires from the battery, or from a charger, directly to the pump to see if it will work, if it does, then you need to work on the relay, if it doesn't, replace the pump as Gary indicated.
  3. Seems to me that maybe you have been messing with the sync screws. On the 2nd gen the sync screws are reachable from the right side only, and the one for 1 and 2 cylinder you have to get from the right side. On the 1st gen, they are available on their own respective sides. So if you had to go to the opposite side to adjust, then I would kind of think that you were playing with the sync screws. The mixture screws come with a protective cap installed over them, to keep folks from adjusting them, so, unless you or somebody else has removed those caps, you can't be adjusting the mixture screws, so that leaves only the sync screws to play with,,,, and if you have been playing with them and have no gauge, then it's time to find a gauge. You CANNOT sync the carbs without a gauge,,, just can't be done.
  4. Hey, that's wonderful, to become Grandpa again on father's day. Congrats to you both and to the parents.
  5. Or you could have a bum pump relay,,, I know I did on my first gen. What I did was to try to take it out, drop it on the ground , put it back in and has been fine since.
  6. They are probably both too old to remember how old they really are. Happy Birthday Guys, enjoy the day, God Bless you for the next 12 months.
  7. Sometimes that helps
  8. Poor George, he gets blamed for everything.
  9. Ya but all seasoning ain't hot!
  10. Looking at the pictures I can almost see your concern, but I really don't have a comment as to how it should be done or how it works.
  11. How many times do I have to jump off the roof to be worth that much??
  12. Ya that's ok, you did well and you have to have something to do!
  13. Caution: if you put in too much air, you will blow the seals,, not the end of the world, but it will most likely take some oil out with it and make a bit of a mess. If you put more than the recommended amount of oil in it, the forks may come to an abrupt halt on the way down and cause some damage in the process. In my opinion, you only need so much oil to do the damping job, any more will cause problems but not have any effect on the ride itself.
  14. When you go to install the stator cover be sure you have the shifter linkage in the proper position. It's the knuckle behind the cover with the shaft going through the cover that is the issue here. It likes to fall to the bottom, but it needs to be at the top of the shaft. It will install when at the bottom, but it will take more persuasion to get the cover to seat, and you will have to take it off again to do it right. More than one person has noticed that it doesn't work so well when not installed properly.
  15. Can't help ya none, just looked and mine is an 83
  16. I would replace the fuel filter, they can at times plug up, but then let gas through like no tomorrow, when all of a sudden it's blocked again.

  19. Is that what the Squid did to make himself look more mature?
  20. I have some here, but it's about 1.5", hard to measure, but not big enough for you. It shrinks 40% and we use it to rubberize wooden broom handles so that a corn broom with a wooden handle will pass meat inspection. It does a very nice job, so nice in fact that the inspectors wondered where we got those handles,,,, go figure.
  21. You sure you're not color blind????
  22. Now that begs the question on what constitutes being old,,,, is the wrinkles in the skin, or the hair on top of the head, or is it the limp one walks with, or the speed of his gait? Maybe it has to do with how quick he can get up or down or how well he can see and hear. Anyways Squid, I'm with you, when I get gray hair I'll consider whether I'm old or not,,, and I'll not listen to Gary until then, even though he might say something about loosing it as well. And the $20 is now on it's way.
  23. Never mind y'all, I just remembered that I had thought that I might forget who gave it me, so,,, just to be on the safe side I had written his name on the bill,,,, smart of me EH?,,,,I mean the remembering part,,,,,, and the real person IS ?????????????? ok, so how come you guys are so smart and know it already,,, this will be the last time I put up a contest,,,,,, MERCY!!!!!! and I was just getting to the punch line,,,,,,,,, actually, Chabicheka gave it to me!!!!
