  1. That would do it. The spacer the manual speaks of is the brake caliper bracket and the washer goes between the wheel and the brake bracket. This leaves a space between the bracket and the swing arm,,, but that's the way it is.
  2. The quick reply is just plain luck, or maybe I want to get rid of you fast,,,,, nah, just want to help best I can, and I know that once we get going on something, it's frustrating to have to wait. The left side of the bike is the clutch handle side, and the T has the shorter hose on the bottom, that's the end closer to the engine,,, so the top would then be closer to the air-box. The hose coming from the T should lead to a pipe on the left front corner of the air-box. Hope this helps.
  3. Maybe you could tell us why you think you need new carbs,,,, we might be able to save you the carb costs and a lot of aggravation,,,, f o r,,,,,,, unless they are brand new in a box, you might be jumping from the frying pan into the fire.
  4. I've not had that problem,, maybe because I drilled out the rear baffles and blew everything out,,,,, so I suppose maybe I lost my marbles.
  5. Squeeze them back with a large set of Plumbers pliers or maybe a c-clamp. No need to open anything except the reservoir lid so that in case you push back more fluid than what it can hold, it can now overflow. Make sure you put a catch all under the reservoir. Meantime, check the condition of the fluid, if it looks cloudy or dirty, it's time for a change.
  6. There is a rubber tube coming from the middle of the air box down to the engine. Part way down there is a T and then it continues on. This tube is the supply line for the PCV set up. Off the T another hose runs to the left front corner of the air-box,,, this one is for the air-box overflow, just in case you put too much oil in the crankcase and it fills the air-box, it then gets sucked back into the engine to get burned off.
  7. They seem to be legal, I have them on mine, dealer installed, just make sure you clean with contact cleaner before sticky.
  8. It is good to have this bar level, and smooth, so no threads and clean, so no rust to stop the rotation of the tire. Usually you spin the tire, mark the bottom when it stops, then spin it again, that way you can be assured the tire is spinning freely, if the mark is at the bottom both times. Also, if you spin it forward the first time, spin it backwards the second time. The amount of weight you add is your guess, so to confirm you have it right, test it again, and then do the math as to how much more you need to add or take off. Now if you are going to take something off, make sure first that the neighbors aren't looking or you might have to spend some time in resuscitation. And yes,, you should balance it, otherwise you won't be happy at all.
  9. As far as the master is concerned, you have to make sure everything is absolutely without any dirt, totally clean and this also means the reservoir and the connection hose. For the caliper, as important as it is, and as important that everything is in proper shape, a lot of the times the seals can be used again. This means that during removal you haven't scored them and that the cylinder, (not the piston) has no imperfections that had to be fixed. In other words, if the cylinder, (or the bore), is clean and smooth upon first inspection, there is no real reason for the seals to be adversely affected. For seals I would go see my local Yammi dealer.
  10. A lot of things come to mind,,,, but I type slow and I have other things to do.
  11. You sure you can handle this all by yourself? sure you don't need any help for directions, or helping out with the meals or such?
  12. Is there going to be ICE-CREAM?????????? Does Amy know how old you REALLY are? Happy birthday olde boy, hope you can enjoy a whole bunch more!
  13. Is it the muffler or collector box you speak of.
  14. We will ask for guidance and peace for all of you.
  15. Couple of things I've noticed. Your reservoir should have an expansion chamber in it, in other words there is a rubber cell in the top, one part with the gasket and it looks like the air bag of a accordion. This design is so that there is lots of expansion room available in the reservoir as it fills about half the space. The calipers need to be very clean and you must remove the seals to get this done right. Crap will work it's way under the seals and so make things run tight. The piston is not the most important, seeing as most of it does not deal with anything under pressure or with the brake fluid. It should be clean though, to keep everything else clean, and if it's starting to pit and rust, you should replace it. There is a wee little pin hole in the master cylinder that will also give you the same symptoms, if it's not clean. It's not easy to see and bit of a rotter to find, but if you haven't dealt with it, you probably haven't found it yet.
  16. Hey, the job site looks nicely cleaned up,,,, has the dept of labor been there recently?
  17. It did it again,,, this morning of all times, just turned the ignition on, and voila, no LEDs. So did further checking. All incandescents work. I have the front air scoop and the wheel covers with incandescent in them, and they came on. Brakes lights worked, LEDs. Headlight and driving lights worked, also incandescent. So what doesn't work are the running lights that are LEDs. They are not all grounded together, so I have more than one grounding spot. They are powered from the running light circuit at random, so also not from a central spot. When I start the bike, they come on right away.
  18. OK, that's one thing he can do without,,, and that's those mirrors,,, because,,,,,, the 1st gens are always out front,,, maybe better offer him a set of binoculars.
  19. You'll find more than one spring in there. There's six of them and they is all held in place with bolts that don't like it iffen you tighten them a little too snug. 5.8 ft pounds is the torque you are looking for.
  20. No wonder we are what we are,,,,,, everybody comes here picking our brains. Is it any wonder we don't have any left?
  21. We all knew all about those events and figured FreeBird was safe for at least this year, now we'll have to get him a Bird Mobile to keep him safe from you.
  22. Here's the scoop: 1985 Venture Royale 148,000 km New stator and RR AGM battery showing 12.36 volts, sitting for 36 hours All lights are LEDs except for headlight, signals and driving lights. LEDs are wiring in to the running light circuits at random, and brake lights are LEDs as well. Outside temp about 10 degrees C or 50 degrees F Here's the gremlin(s) Wayne and I were out for a ride on Wednesday night. Rode for about 1.5 hours then stopped for coffee. Wayne said that one of my LED banks in my trunk was flickering, so after coffee went out to check it out. I turned on the key to light up my life and low and behold, NONE of the LEDs were working. I tried again but still nothing. So I fired up the scoot and revved it up, blink, blink and all the lights were working. Turned everything off and had the same scenario. So I drove home figuring to check it out and fix the issue. Now I don't have any issues at all,,,,can't get it to repeat. Did I leave the gremlins at Timmies, or are they hiding somewhere?
  23. You could have made a shorter garage, or lower the roof,,,, or moved to a different neighborhood.
