  1. Kind of how this all came down: Monday,,, Angle held us up on the way back from Niagara Falls, said there was too much weight on the scoot or the shock was not working or something. No biggie, we were within shootin' distance from Pioneer, well shootin' maybe be stretching it a bit, but we were close. After supper it was determined that the shock was at fault, diagnosis only took about 2 hours, so not so bad. Terry's help was enlisted to try to find another one. Good hour spent to find that wasn't going to be easy, Yami don't list them no more,,,, Angle not feeling too good at this point, really he was kind of down,,,,, but then HEY, he was right among VentureRiders,,,, he need not have worried,,, well at least about his scoot. I told him that he should go pay attention to his wife and camping and the rest would figure itself out by morning. Then Bongobobny come up with the bright idea that in his garage, about 2 miles away was a shock that's available, buuuuuuttt, is still in his 84. Just go and take it out, he says. So Bob became the donner,, half the battle won so far and it was still only Monday. We all went to sleep, some here and some there. I don't know about Angle or Lori, I didn't keep an eye on them, figured they weren't going anywhere fast anyways. I was thinking (dangerous I know, but this time it worked out not so bad) that I would like to spend some time on a Spyder, so on Tuesday morning I asked Terry if I could rent one for the day,,,, his prompt response was that they don't rent Spyders.....period,,,,,,,so if I wanted to test ride one for a day all I had to do was ask,,, so I asked, and 5 minutes later, there it was,,, pretty as could be, all ready to go,,,,,,,,,,,wow!!!!!!! so Marca and I had the Spyder experience, and that would leave a perfectly good scooter sitting at Pioneer with nowhere to go and no-one to love it, so Angle and Lori got that job. When we got back, about 5 pm I got busy to con 2 more people into helping out to do the work. I did meet some reluctance, Bob thought that seeing as he was the one donating maybe he wouldn't have to do the maintenance,,,,,, well after explaining who was going to remove the shock in HIS garage, he thought it best to go along, just to keep an eye on things. So........ Bob went as the organizer tool handler, Gary (Dingy) and Ben (Saddlebum) went to be the actual surgeons. I understand they both thought to grab a nap on either side of the scoot, but Bob began throwing things at them, so much for nap time. In record time they were back,,, less than 1 hour,,,, good going guys, you almost beat us at the shop. At the shop: Angle and Carl started by getting the scoot on a lift, finding needed tools, and discovering the saddle bags could stay in place. We received lots of advice, all good, and then the help showed up, so Carl took a break. Took almost less time to do it our way, then the way they did it at Bob's. The donner needed some upgrades, hence there are pictures of Ben and Bull working in that area. Again, lots of hands went into putting things back together. I can't really say who was all in the works, but I know that Ben and Bull put in a lot of effort and know-how. It was great to be part of this operation, to watch how everybody pitched in, even if it was just for moral support or just getting in the way so that it would be easier when they left (NOT). What can I say: this was VentureRiders in action, family caring for each other, even if we didn't know what we were doing. Thanks all, for being such a great bunch to be with.
  2. The issue would be in a switch that is activated by the clutch lever, just follow the wire going to the back of the lever. The switch is held by being pushed in place, so you'll need a small screwdriver to push the keepers back to pull the switch out. Clean it, and you should be good to go. Watch out for the small spring that's in there.
  3. Good try olde boy, but if I recollect he was also in attendance!
  4. Thanks for the compliments. If this keeps up I'll need a whole site for myself, just to store my handles. As far the owner of the jeep, if you look in the previous picture, he had his back turned, so I was okie dokie for a short while.
  5. In post # 24 you indicated that you knew something about Terry's legs, so now we need to know how you came by that knowledge, or should we ask Terry?
  6. Ya, you're right, he did have shorts on, but I WILL let Saddlebum elaborate.
  7. Now I has an idea how you might have 'experienced' Michele's legs,,,, buuuuut Terry was not wearing shorts if I remember correctly,,, maybe you could elaborate.
  8. Marcarl's VentureIn will be the 25th of May. My thoughts on location is to find a Motel that can also accommodate camping, that way we all stay together. Yes, I realize that riding is important, but what I find more important is that we get to meet each other and spend time together. During the daytime we mostly ride, but during the evening we get to get in each others way and stir the pot. It would be real good to do this altogether in one place, that way nobody can blame me for ALL the ruckus. I don't think that having meals together as a whole group is paramount, except for the main meal of course.
  9. Marca has a sore finger, took over 500 pictures, I saved 60 special ones. These are from the Finger Lakes ride, and the Erie Canal ride.
  10. You could try to take the aluminum strips off, straighten them and then see what happens, might surprise you and you have nothing to loose.
  11. Marcarl

    Do you...

That's why they have built in: U-turns and recalculating. But hey! we're on our bike and we never get lost, just sometimes take a more scenic road.
  12. I could suggest Brantford Ontario, it's nice and close to home, the weather is awesome, Pioneer MS is not that far away in case we have problems, Marca is real good at telling me what to do, although we don't have hill country, we got some real nice riding, I'll be fully retired by then so I'll forget all about everything as soon as I'm told,, heck, that happens already so I have good practise. COME TO BRANTFORD!!!
  13. Now how did I get involved in this again????
  14. Can you post some pictures?
  15. First thing to do is to check the slider for any cracks. Sometimes they will crack at the open side where the metal pushes into the plastic, then you need a new one. Other than that, put it all back together the way it should be, gently but firmly seat it all together and you could be good to go. See if it will come apart real easy, and if not it should hold. If it comes apart real easy, look for cracks again with the metal piece in place. If there are still no cracks add a bit of glue to hold things together. Let it dry and insert it into the carb. If it slides easy and freely, good, if it binds even a little bit, you missed seeing a crack, get a new one.
  16. It had to be one of the best rallies I attended. We were looked after hand a foot, we didn't notice any problems, made some more good friends, met some new folks, extended other friendships. Surprising I think for most of us, was the involvement and the giving that was provided by: PIONEER MOTORSPORTS. Never at any time was there any thought put into a request, by the time a feller was finished with a request\question, the answer and result was already in the works. TOM and the NY crew,,, you did fantastically. Terry, Michelle, Chad, Matthew, Michelle's mom,, your participation was all in the background, but certainly made the 4 days a wonderful experience. CAN WE COME AGAIN????
  17. We made it home just fine, the only time we needed our rain gear was in Chaffee area, the rest of the ride was more or less on the dry side, but then we were with Saddlebum and he has a different story,,,as usual.
  18. Well I'll be,,, I knew he was staying close to me for something, just won't let me get any age on him,,,,, now to see if I can do the same trick on him as he did for me. ROBIN!!!!!!
  19. Any idea what the other brands are going to say about this when they see it going past: -Those guys are getting to old to ride anywhere. -Not going to paint mine yellow, you can't even ride it. -Guess those things are not dependable -Looks good but does it run? -Glad I own a ............
  20. A separate thread to post any and all pictures to the IR 2012, so that is going to be easy for others to find them. It 'll be in the Watering Hole for now, I will move it in a week or so to it's proper spot.
  21. Big Tom??????
  22. Yep a well known maneuver. The rule is that you turn into the lane you came out of, but happens maybe only 30% of the time, so we need to be ready for that, if we're not, then we have something to learn.
  23. Sounds real good, even though Squidley said so! Now find all the parts, make it look good, and the ride like you own it.
  24. I have had a car or two follow me too close, but mostly they seem to follow at a respectable distance. I wonder if it's positional riding that makes a difference. I always, (well unless I forget) ride to block my lane. I try to make sure that the person behind me doesn't even in the slightest get the idea that maybe they could sneak past me. So on a 2 lane road, I ride the left track, totally blocking my lane. If I do get one that seems to want to be towed, I first wave them back and if that don't work I slow down and eventually turn off at my most convenient location. I will never move to the right hand track, and let them envision to be able to pass me on the sly.
  25. In my opinion: the shorter the chains the better, and you might be surprised as to how short the chains can be. What I did was to jack-knife the trailer and then make the chain as short as possible, amazingly, they barely hang. I figure when the chains are short then the drop of the tongue will be the shortest, the pull of a detached trailer will be minimized, and the effect of the tongue getting involved with a rotating rear tire will be less dramatic.
