My son has a recent problem with his bike (see above) it seems like a couple of the cylinders are not kicking in at the lower RPM's after about 3000RPM he said it feels like they are kicking in and running correctly. He has already run some seafoam through it. It is fuel injected orther wise i would think it was fouled pilot jets. Looking for other ideas.

Hello All, I'd like to think i'm not a complete idiot (perhaps this is merely wishful thinking)... I have a '96 RS (boulevard?) and i belive is a XVZ13A. http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p14/dbikers/2012-07-20_11-40-40_132.jpg I have the had this bike only for a couple of weeks and have been pretty happy with it other than the pesky vibration in 4th and 5th gears. I have read (and have been told) that i need to sync my carbs, so i bought a motion pro (i've read that the glycol will stick to the tubes of the gage and sure enough they do and i already wish i had gotten a morgan carbtune). At any rate, after calibrating the tool and hooking it up to the carbs the sync looked like this. http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p14/dbikers/2012-07-29_14-15-33_156.jpg So i began to sync the carbs using this page from my clymer manual http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p14/dbikers/2012-07-29_20-14-38_307.jpg However, this page is very different than the carb sync in some of the tchnical lbraries here as well as on Venturers http://www.venturers.org/Tech_Library/index.php?action=article&cat_id=002010&id=311 Well, to say the least i never got the carbs sync'd correctly and it's now worse. The screw to sync 1-2 worked perfect but the others adjustments didn't work correctly. Though i haven't ridden it, it backfires and pops and smells "hot" (lean) after adjusting the "A" screw to sync 4-3 and then the "B" screw to sync 2-4. Can anyone with a '96 tell me if the page from the book that i have attached is correct? If not can anyone tell me what the "A" and the "B" screws do on my bike so i can get them back to what they should be? Thanks in advance all. John

I've got an 83 venture for couple of years now. I cannot seem to get it running correctly, poor mileage ( 28 MPG) and back firing ( poping back through the carbs) slightly after making a corner then accelerating. After a pop or two it picks up and takes off. This is with both the original TCI and the new one I purchased last year. The bike normally runs better before it warms up. I readjusted the valves last year too. I thought it was running rich so, had the carbs off last week to reset the floats and install smaller shims in the sliders. Still run bad maybe a little worse. Put the original shims back in. Now I have a float stuck and gas coming out the overflow line. So I get to pull the carbs again, oh joy. Mainly, I also noticed that the #4 carb slider is not moving. Last week I pulled and cleaned the idle mixture needle valve and the two ports ( top and bottom sides of the diaphragm) into the throat. I set the idle mixture screws to 2 turns out. This week I reinstalled the original shims in the sliders I have reset the idle mixture screws in to 1 ½ turns out. Once I get up to about 4000 RPM it seems to smooth out. When I syn’cd the carbs I get about 9” vacuum on all cylinders at 1000 rpm. Is there some other internal thing I may be missing that would stop the slider from working correctly in just one cylinder? I pulled that slider again and the diaphragm ( no holes in it also about one year old ) is seated correctly and I have already disconnected the YICS some time back and plugged the lines. I also have not found and intake leaks.

Just a fun little contest for all of you. I picked up a new toy this weekend. Really got it for Eileen as she recently saw one and fell in love with it. I'm going to post a picture or two a day until somebody correctly guesses what it is. The first one to correctly identify the new toy wins a small VentureRider patch and a VentureRider domed decal. So...without further ado, here is the first clue.

OK folks...I just upgraded our forum software while you were taking your breaks. Let me know if you see anything missing or not functioning correctly. Thanks

I have my 89 VR at Earl's home and he is doing some mechanical work on the engine and rebuilding the brakes, etc.. Yesterday he informed me by e-mail that my CMU has shorted out. And the Reserve Lighting unit is also DOA. The PO put a battery sensor mod in the bike and did not do it correctly. Consequently, the wiring shorted out and burned up the CMU. Does anyone have a CMU or RLU they are willing to sell? Thanks Jim

Just upgraded the software here because of a couple of security updates. Please let me know if you see anything missing or not working correctly.

On Page 90 of the October issue of 'Motorcycle Cruiser' there is a picture and short write-up on Troy Prices's '06 Midnight RSV. I checked the member's sction and can't find him listed (although this was the first time I have used this feature and may not have done it correctly). Looks like we need to get in touch with a potential new member. Hey Larry AKA - silverdeer, this is the guy I was talking about at the Leavenworth M&E. oldsalt

I just bought a 04 RSV and have noticed that the antenna's are reversed to all the photos I've seen( all but one ). On my bike the cb is on the right and radio is on the left ( left and right as you sit on the bike ). Does this matter and is there any way I can check to make sure they're wired correctly? any and all help is appreciated

Does anyone know where to go to view Yamaha's TSB's? I heard there is one for the 2007 head bolts not being torqued correctly. Anyone else heard of this?

I'm just gonna make my own synchro tool. http://www.powerchutes.com/manometer.asp Since I'm only gonna have two hose openings, how would I sync the left bank to the right bank? I'm assuming I can just hook one up to, say, #2 cylinder and the other to #3 just so long as I put the plugs back on #1 & #4. Am I thinking correctly?
