High Dynamic Range is a photo effect whereby 3 different exposures of the same shot are layered and free software, Luminance, is used to create pics like this one.
  2. OK folks. I just installed a security update to our forum software. I think I got all the necessary mods made but please let me know if you see anything that is not working properly.
  3. I got my hands on an old emac 6.4 computer running OSX 10.4.11 that I want to set up for a 5 year old and I'm having a hard time finding educational software that will run on this old platform. If anyone has software for an old Mac OS gathering dust in a box somewhere I'd be interested in it. Thanks for looking.
  4. I currently have 2009 WW Autoroute DEM Basemap NR 3.00 Software version 4.00 GPS 2.90 DSP 2.40 Text 4.00 Voice 2.60 I cannot find anything newer. Garming says all but maps are current. I find it hard to believe that 2009 stuff is current but hey you never know. Anyone have any additional knowledge of current software or firmware for this unit?? Also lifetime maps seems like a good deal at 90 bucks. Thoughts??
  5. OK folks...I just upgraded our forum software while you were taking your breaks. Let me know if you see anything missing or not functioning correctly. Thanks

    software

Dingbat here must have throw away the wrong set of disks for re-installing software in case of a "problem"; so now that I have purchased a new hard drive I can't re-install windows XP Tablet (OS). I've been trying to find a place where to get it (free would be nice) but am having no luck. Any of you Techies know where to pick a copy up?? Thanks
  7. I have been having trouble with signing in lately and today I did some checking and found that my virus software by CA Internet Security was apparently blocking me from signing in. The software had enabled the "Protected Mode" of my browser and would not allow me to log in. I would enter my user name and password and then it would log me in to the redirect screen and then I guess drop me back out of the log in. I had to diable that and enter the sites URL manually as an allowed site and then re-enabled protected mode and it has worked fine ever since. Don't really understand what caused it to do it because I was logging in okay just last week. I went out of town for a week and when i came back I couldn't log in. Anyone else out there have CA Security software? That's how I fixed it.
  8. Checked the Garmin site today and there was an software upgrade availible for the Gramin Zumo 660...for you folks who have one...you might ease on over there, plug yours into the PC and let it do you an upgrade.
  9. Just upgraded the software here because of a couple of security updates. Please let me know if you see anything missing or not working correctly.
  10. Sometime in the near future, I will be making some major changes to the VentureRider site. This is not something that I want to do but am pretty much being forced to do. This site is a conglomeration of several different software packages that are somewhat integrated together so that a single login works from the home page, the forum, classifieds, etc. It is a common occurrence that I have to upgrade the software from time to time. Sometimes it is to add new features but it is often because new security vulnerabilities are discovered. Once they are discovered, it is not long before the hackers and spammer find out about them and then we are open to such attacks. The problem is though that often if an upgrade is required in one area, for example the forum, then it causes problems with other areas such as the home page. So it's a chain effect, an upgrade here ends up requiring an upgrade to other parts of the site. Often it is after an upgrade is already done before you find the problems that it caused in other areas. An example is this last upgrade where an upgrade to the forum software caused such things as the "Mark Forums Read" and etc. to stop working on the home page and also the side menu here. That is because the side menu here on the forum is actually part of the home page software. It all gets so confusing. While it can be irritating and cause a lot of work and debugging each time, the problem is that the people who wrote the software that I am using on the home page appear to have pretty much given up that business. They are no longer offering upgrades or support for the software. This last little change and the problems that it caused created some real headaches and several hours to figure out what code needed to be changed so that it all worked together again. As more changes are made to the forum, the problem will get much worse. The bottom line is that I am going to have to completely redo the VentureRider home page from scratch. Remove the current software and integration and come up with a new solution. Over the next week or two I will be looking at various options and making a decision on what will the be best route forward. There may be some changes that some of you like and there may be some things that go away that some of you will really miss. It can't be helped and I promise that I will try my best to retain all the current features that I can. The good news is that the actual discussion forum will remain pretty much the same. The decision that I make for the home page will determine if there are any changes at all to the forum. If there are changes, it will still be the same basic software and no changes in the way that it actually works on your end. Also, we should not lose any posts. The only thing that we might lose, at least temporarily, are some of the custom features that I have added over the years. If so, I will add them back as soon as possible. Well that's the story. It is not going to happen today or this weekend but will be happening soon. This is such a big change that when I do it, I will very likely have to shut down the site for at least a couple of hours. I will give advance notice before doing that.
  11. I received and have confirmed a big with the software update. The "Mark Forums Read" button in the Login Box at the top of the left side menu returns a security token error. I will find and correct the problem when I get the time. In the meantime, there is also a "Mark Forums Read" link in the Quick Links drop down menu on the right end of the upper menu bar. That one still works.
  12. I was on ebay and found this software that is supposed to cross reference parts for yamaha models. Has anyone used this and would it be beneficial for finding xref parts for my 83'? 13. Here is a site posted by Flash41 in another thread that has just about any kind of video editing, audio editing, ripping software that you will probably ever need. All free. Great resource. http://dvdvideosoft.com/
  14. Maybe Im blind, but I don't see a way to edit a classified once it's posted. I found this thread, but I think the software has changed since then. [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=32364]Edit A Classified Ad - VentureRider.Org[/ame]
  15. OK folks....I just did a software upgrade on the site. Please let me know if you see anything not working correctly. Thanks.
  16. OK folks....as bad as I hate to tackle it....I am getting ready to upgrade our software again. This is a bigger upgrade than the last couple and you WILL find some things missing until I get it all worked out. The functionality as far as posting and etc. should be fine but some of the custom changes I have made over time will take some sorting out. So....I'm going to get started. Hopefully there will be no MAJOR problems.
  17. OK folks...I just upgraded our software here. There may be some minor issues so let me know if you notice anything stranger than usual. Thanks
  18. Nice to see that the Boss has upgraded the site. One thing I don´t like though is that I got little X´s in all the small boxes all over the page. What´s up with that:confused07: Can I fix this or is this a bug on the web site? Maybe I need to install a "active X" software or something . Am I the only one seeing this?
  19. OK folks, I just did a software upgrade here. Let me know if you see anything screwed up.
  20. hey all you guys 'n gals working in the technology field.... I'm looking for a replacement for our LAN messenging program. We currently use RealPopup which is an enhanced version of WinPop. This program is freeware and unsupported and it's causing me a lot of headaches lately. Frankly, it's a neat program with just the right features for us but with the implementation of recent software, it appears to be clashing and crashing. anyone got any suggestions? We are prepared to pay for software if we have to. I have evaluated a few and the one I found that seemed to be best suited was Softros Instant Messenger. Would be interested in knowing what ya'll might use and/or suggestions. Thanks a bunch
  21. OK folks, I need to update the software due to a couple of newly discovered security issues. I am starting now. I will try to be as disruptive as possible but you will probably see a couple of glitches for a few minutes...or hours...or...uh.....years.....
  22. OK folks, the good news is that I have just completed the initial installation of the newest software here for the site. It seems to have gone pretty well. Now obviously you will notice some things that are missing. I will be working on the site for most of the night but the downtime should be over. Please be patient as I work at restoring missing features and ironing out any bugs that may show up.

  24. I was cruising the web on Saturday and thought I'd look for a site that said why Vinnie left OCC. I found one that said it had a vidio of Sr. but wanted me to update my program. Without thinking( I do that a lot) I said ok and all hell broke loose. Although I have Webroot Spysweeper and Norton Virus on the computer, when staring up I get a screen of green fields and blue sky, the real screen with icons comes on, then the screen comes on with the icons again in a dark blue screen. Athough my scans come out with no problems, I get popups telling me I "may have a virus and click here to correct". When I do its an add for software. I'm running XP. I'm wodering if anybody knows of some software that can help, or does the machine have to be taken down and everything reinstalled? Thanks Kenw
  25. So, I am thinking about getting a GPS unit. I know a lot of you have the ZUMO 550, others have Tom Tom etc. I just registered on the Zumo 550 forum to start learning about this type of technology, software, software needed, etc. I think I am now more confused than ever - in that it appears you have to do a lot of programming? I'm not really sure where to start in researching for this. I like (I think) the ZUMO - but would be looking for something fairly simple to utilize while on the road. Meaning, if I got to a location, decided to find some interesting back roads, can one just "push a button" and a unit tells you some neat roads? Looking at the ZUMO site, I guess I need to download some software into my computer, and transfer information between the two (computer/GPS unit?). I am not real savvy on computer programs, and/or .extensions. Is there one trip planning software better than another? I've been on rides where the guys have had laptops with them - and made new daily routes off the laptop into the GPS device - I don't have a laptop - hence wanting to "create routes on the fly". Can you do that? Sorry if these might be dumb questions, just looking for an area / forum to start learning this stuff. I am thinking if I am going to spend the money on something like this, I would want to use it to most of it's capacity. I would also not want to buy a "starter" unit, then have to upgrade in 6 months. Any help or suggestions from you "pros" and "gps newbies" out there????? Thanks in advance.:confused24:
