  1. Hi there venture riders, I am posting a thread for the first time ever and here! I have enjoyed this forum since I bought my 83' venture 1200 and now have a reason to find some help. My bike ran good but lacked full power, I took off air box and noticed left rear diaphram slide not opening. I took outside cap off and found the metal sleeve seperated from the plastic slide. I took a little epoxy and reassembled properly, diaphram looked great. I started the bike and checked operation ( all 4 working properly) it now when warm idles at 3000 rpm. Checked choke and throttle cables lubed them and saw they were operating properly. I feel this is a vacuum related issue and can't find the fix Thanks in advance for any help, this bike is my only transportation right now.
  2. just bought an 84 VXZ12: 1. need to remove the seat for a patch job - front lifts up a bit but i can't seem to get the seat off... please help 2. would like to take the hard bags off the sides and back to get the locks cleaned up and properly clean the bike... but can't seem to get them off either... please help.
  3. OK folks. I just installed a security update to our forum software. I think I got all the necessary mods made but please let me know if you see anything that is not working properly.
  4. Sometimes students come into my class and I'm sure even they don't know what they been smoking. BUT have you ever had conversations with a pair of gurus who KNOW what they been smoking? I'm posting up the latter part of conversations I've had with them. If you're a guru (who knows what they are smoking) what would you say? Have to figure out if it is electrical or fuel issues. New plugs, ride it, and then look at them. Running hot or fouling. Rough in low rpms? does it clear when you get it going? Rough all the way through? Then you think about what to start looking for. Good answer eh Also it would be interesting to note whether or not the plugs are firing inside the engine. You'll have to go for another ride to here to find that out. Also, did you remove the ignition wires when you changed the motor, so are the wires going to the right plugs from the right coils. Still need to know what kind of ignition wires you have,,, copper or carbon? The other thing could be that the boots under the carbs are not seated properly, they may have come off after you put them on properly,, it happens,,,, that would give false air into the cylinders and also throw off a carb tune, and so you would have the same symptoms that you have now. Carbtune done with Tuckett's unit, with Tuckett watching, I've done it a dozen times myself too. Wires are copper, not carbon. Wires were not removed during this engine swap. Regardless, I know which wires go where. Carbs are seated properly on the boots. I've taken the carbs off the bike every winter as part of my normal cleanup, with last winter being a total rebuild, ran good. On reinstallation for one of those times I didn't get them seated properly on the boots and noticed that fact by how it ran before I got to the corner stop sign, black smoke, that is not the problem this time. I'm concluding it's a fuel delivery issue. How about you? Plugs removed looking a very little bit white ...too lean a mixture? If it were my bike sitting here, I would check all the plug wires to make sure they are firing properly,,, just to rule that out,,, buuttt too lean a mixture will also give you problems but then it would tend to bog out when you twist the throttle,, which I don't think it does. Some more questions then: Do you need a choke for a cold start? Does it run better with the choke partially closed? Did you replace the fuel filter? A far out question,,,, are you sure it's a 1300 engine? Something that's interesting is the way it starts and takes off, doesn't seem to be any problems there. Post it up, and see if anybody else has better ideas. Carl some more answers then... I need choke for a cold start, same as always, between a quarter and half of the lever. I does not run better at partial choke. Fuel filter gets replaced with every rear tire change. The Pinwall Cycle video shows the bike coming in was a MkII with '89 colours. The engine that I picked up had all the 1300 badging on the side covers. I'm still stuck on ignition. When I sprayed WD40 into the intakes, it didn't change anything. So if the fuel delivery was on the low side or none at all, it should have smoothed out, if the fuel was rich it would have started bogging down, that's why I would think ignition, and I would like to see if those plugs are firing under load. Did you do a compression test on this engine, if it's low in a couple of cylinders, it would also present the same symptoms. I'll tell ya'll what I say.....if I start caring more about what an engine looks like than how it runs, I must be gettin ready to ride a 2nd gen...OH WHAT HATH BECOME ME!
  5. This may have been discussed before, so sorry for the redundency if it has. But.... if I add LED replacements for the 1157 and 1156 bulbs on the trailer, will I have a problem with the turn signal breaker working properly?? Do they make a HD breaker like they use on tow vehicles when hauling a trailer....?? Otherwise they blink way to fast...

  8. Does anyone have a diagram of the insides of the radio handlebar switch, the one on the post just above the left hand grip that controls the 'Mute' and 'Search' operations. Even a list of what parts are inside would suffice because I removed mine to try to find out why it was not working properly and when I took it apart there were some funny sounds as everything went six ways to Sunday and I don't know how many parts I should be trying to find. Many Thanks.
  9. Finally finished getting everything together after doing a variety of maintenance jobs on Red. Backed it out of the Mancave and it wouldn't go forward. Felt like I had an emergency brake on. Knew this wasn't right, so I had my boys push me back into the cave and did a little troubleshooting. Quickly realized that the drive shaft was not properly engaged with the U-Joint. It was laying next to the U-joint rather than in it. Quickly took all the rear end stuff off so I could unmount and remount the pumpkin. This time I got it in there properly. Put it back together, pushed it out of the cave, threw on the helmet (new Aria - maiden voyage for that too), and took off. First stop was the neighborhood gas station to fill up with fresh gas. Next was to hit the highway and let Red stretch its legs. And stretch it did. WOW! She now has more performance than I have ever felt. One of the carb boots was not seated properly when I took it apart. I assume it had been like that since I bought it with 9000 mile on her. There are now 75000 miles. It felt different decelerating also. No popping, banging, or smell of gas. Looking forward to seeing how my gas mileage has changed. It really was wonderful getting some wind in my face - if only for about 15 miles. RR
  10. All- I'm new to the site and just purchased a 1987 Venture Royale. I love it. It does need a few things and I'm hoping you can help. 1) I need a few vent louvers for the side panel. 2) I need a couple of the rubber grommets for the side panels. 3) Are there any cheaper alternatives to the $60.00 stock air filters? 4) Lastly, the battery warning light will not turn off. The battery was checked and is good and properly charged. The fluid level is adequate and the contact probe was cleaned. I've even disconnected it and the light still comes on. It appears that the resistor mod was performed. I'm stumped. I appreciate any input and apologize if I posted this in the wrong place. I'm still learning to navigate on this website. Thank you. Bill
  11. I found a 2003 yamaha roadstar windshield in the local want ads, but would have to drive about 110 miles to pick it up, so I thought I would ask everyone in here first. Does anyone know if it will fit my 97 Royal Star Tour Deluxe? I have the four mounting bolts and lowers. WIll these holes line up properly? I also need a backrest, so if anyone knows where to get an inexpensive version, please let me know. Thanks for any assistance and insights. Robert
  12. A Venture on a trailer! I just picked up a new trailer yesterday after much deliberation between open and closed trailers. I loaded the bike on today to see how it fit and take it for a test ride. It pulled quite well. I needed a trailer for those once a year vacations when my wife insists on bringing everything but the kitchen sink. It's a small price to pay for those other trips throughout the year when she agrees to ride. I got tired of borrowing utility trailers and wanted one set up properly for bikes. This one does seem to be a very nice trailer and it should be for what it cost. It would have been cheaper to buy an enclosed trailer. Dennis
  13. Your Hair ...Looking across my Bedroom, I notice it was not trimmed nor combed properly for 4 years So here's a photo that it is properly being Maintained :rotfl:
  14. Any way to adjust this or shim it? The throttle is adjusted properly but end to end (along the path of the handlebars) has play in it. Would like to get this down some. Thanks in advance. hh
  15. I think I found why my antenna won't tighten down properly. It looks like the base bolt that screws up into the plastic base of the antenna is slightly bent, probably not allowing the plastic base to tighten down properly. Can I straighten it out or does the part need to be replaced????
  16. I got one of those jacks everyone uses (like a harbour freight one or a Can Tire one)... my "dumb" question is... what are or is the process of going about getting the bike jacked up. Mine has the foot pedal. What do you do... position it under the bike, sit on the bike, and start pumping it with your foot or what? ... and how do you line it up properly ... I don't have an adapter so was thinking about using hockey pucks (like I've seen suggested somewhere in here).
  17. What is the best procedure for removing the upper throttle cables from the handlebar so they can be properly lubricated?
  18. What should I check if the gear indicator on my 84 isn't working properly? Neutral light works when in neutral, Says 5th. when in 5ith., Says 4th. when in 1st., neutral, 2nd., 3rd., and 4th. I popped out the sending unit and it appeared to look alright. I can live with it not working properly. It just annoys me. If it's gonna be there it should work properly I figure.
  19. I removed the rotor covers so that I could polish them up and just put them back on when I spoon on new tires next week. Didn't realize that one of them is weighted (right side) and today's shake down ride showed me why. Braking produced a high frequency vibration noise without the covers installed. Kinda like rubbing your finger around the top of a wine glass to get that humming noise. All the rotor bolts are torqued properly and in sequence. Seems odd that it would make a noise. I've seen pictures of other RSV's here without the covers but have not heard anyone report this noise before.
  20. I have deleted the database on the older server. Could somebody please try to login to the chat room and see if everything is working properly. Is it remembering your login info and etc.? Thanks.
