VR Assistance

  1. I'm thinking a part was lost when I had my tires changed. I see an oil seal on the brake side of the hub that isn't sealing anything. I've attached a pic of what I've got. If that's what happened, does anyone have a spare laying around?
  2. Attached are the latest versions of our VRAssistance List. The purpose of this list is to give you a list of members who have signed up to offer assistance should you have problems while on the road or just wish to contact a member to say hello. There are two files attached. The XLS file is good if you wish to keep one on your computer as it can be sorted by username, state, country, etc. This is a Microsoft Excel format so if you do not have Microsoft Excel or another program that will open Excel files, it will not work for you. The other list is in .pdf format. It is sorted by state/province and is probably the best choice if you want a list that you can print out and take with you. If you are not on the list and wish to be, please go to your UserCP and "Edit Your Details". Scroll down on that page and you will see the section to add your information. Note that there is a new column now. The first column is the membership status of the people on the list. S = Supporting Member, E = Expired Member, R = Registered Member. A registered member is likely somebody in their trial period that just hasn't become a supporting member yet. These files were updated on September 19th, 2011.
  3. Hi, I have been looking at the trailer hitches available for my 06 RSTD and they all come with the round bar all the across to connect to the saddlebag brackets. But when I look at my bike, I see 2 bar/brackets with threaded holes in them. I have attached 2 photos of the bars. Does anyone know what is supposed to be attached to these threaded holes? Thanks
  4. just wondering if anyone has any photos of the way their sidecar mounts attach to a second gen 99 .i just picked up a sidecar and before i start making mounts wanted to see how others have attached theirs. thanks
  5. Just clicked on a link in google to this site, thread #32541 and received the attached malware warning. Don't know if it's legit, just wanted to let the admins know.
  6. I am installing my new OEM passing lights on my '07 tomorrow. There is a tremendous amount of information here on relays, installation, etc. As usual, the fine folks at VR.org make seemingly tough jobs easy. I think I have all the answers I need except one... Dingy posted a great relays101 document here: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=43150 This document shows the diagram attached. I want to make sure I understand where I am going with terminal 85. I am going to run from 85 to my toggle switch and from my switch, I will tap into the wire of my choice detailed in the installation instruction chart attached. In my case, I want them on all the time so I will go from 85, to switch to Red/Yellow wire, correct? Thanks all!
  7. I need to replace the gasket on the left side crank case cover and I'm wonder what "special" considerations I need to be aware of. I've read and printed the service manual instructions and looked at a few pics on the site. After removing the multiple allen bolts that hold the cover on will it come off with the stator attached to the cover or do I have to remove the smaller cover first (with Yamaha emblem)? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Brian
  8. Just got email from DHL Inc. Says failed delevery attempt and print attached .zip and contact support Notice about 15 versions of to address, and no from address. Looked for email link for dhl web site to forward to them to investigate, but just find email form to fill out i strongly suggest link NOT be opened screenshot attached
  9. I was looking at my 84 after I made the side cover block offs & something didn't look right. It finally hit me the plates where the rear foot pegs bolt on need some dressing up. The black with the ribs was to plain. I decide chrome would accent it nicely but as you all know, I could not find anything for this bike. When I was at Walmart, I noticed this for $6.95: It's basically a plastic mirror which is attached with double face tape. It cuts easily with a scissor. I took a piece of butcher paper & traced the opening I wants to chrome. Made the template & I cut the mirror. I used a regular scissor for the straight runs & a cuticle scissor for the tight bends. Here's the finished look: Though I would share!
  10. On our trip to Australia, I think I found the assortment of cars the most interesting. Attached is a picture of a Holden Ute. Here in the states we call it an El Camino, or used to. ( note the Chevy bowtie ) Also attached is a picture of the Ford version, the Falcon, we used to call it the Ranchero
  11. Hello, After riding my "new to me" '99 RSV for a few weeks, there was something about the control levers which I couldn't put my finger on. Oh.... that's it.... I have small hands and have now noticed that the shape of the Venture's levers are a bit odd. The designed shape don't really work well for a smaller hand. After searching around a little, I've come up with a solution, get yourself a hold of the OEM (or aftermarket) levers from the first generation Royal Star say a 1996 model. These levers have a different shape which is better suited to a smaller hand, and bolt right up to the RSV's master cylinders. Please see the attached pictures for a comparison. Mike
  12. I found this Texelent® Bar Mount System but in emailing the inventor found out that it is designed to work only on Gold Wings. I like the idea of a bar that traverses the handle bars that will allow me to use RAM mounts to attach the various accessories I have attached to the handlebars. I also want to have my Garmin 665 top and center in my field of vision. Anyone have any ideas on an alternative? Thanks.
  13. We put a sidecar on our RSV for the wife, couldn't handle the long rides anymore. We have a 10 yr old Lab and she wants to go riding so looks like the dog will win out. I have her in a harness and short lead attached but was wondering if anyone has a different setup for their dog? Dogs rule. Thanks, labill
  14. Is it possible to remove the rear wheel on a 2nd Gen venture with a side car still attached? If so, what is the procedure?
  15. First, please forgive my PRIMITIVE art. I am still thinking on the fairing broken tab fix thing... Would this type of set up be possible. A strong brace with three holes, one attached to the bottom speaker bolt, the top one attached to the fairing METAL STRIP and then a second brace that a has a wing (T shaped) that fits FLAT against the fairing and held in place with JB Weld (the wing would give more surface area for the glue to hold). Once the glue has cured, this brace would then be attached to the first brace. This setup might provide a LOT of stability for the METAL STRIP and windshield. The braces would have to cut precisely (so as to not pull to much against the fairing), and also would involve some bending. Here is a VERY bad drawing and the 2nd brace does not show the WING I think would be best for securing it to the fairing. I see no reason to have it replaced if it just gonna break again. I would rather fix it for good. Comments, suggestions and SOME LAUGHTER is appreciated. Wally
  16. So I was washing the bike and I noticed that one of the tabs that holds on the left lower is broken. It is number 7 in the pic below. This is actually not a bad one to break because the lower still seems to be attached fairly well. My question is this something the dealer will replace under warranty? And is it worth the inevitable argument with the service manager? David
  17. I'm replacing the steering head bearing on my '83. The manual says 5.1 ft/lbs. Where have you adjusted yours to with the hack attached? I've been told that you can tighten it down more to prevent wobble with the hack. Thanks
  18. E3 Installed July 08, at 69,060 Miles. Bike now at 78,660 miles. 9,060 Miles on this E3. Photo's attached.
  19. Anyone here ever have this procedure done? I'm having it done this Wed. to my left Kidney. There's been no pain but blood was in my urine after exercising. Scans show a very large (Dr's words) Kidney stone attached to the walls. I've heard one person say there was no problem and another one who had some problems.
  20. Keeping my fingers crossed that I may be able to get my sidecar hooked up soon so decided to look into licensing in SC for sidecar riding and found that there are two categories for sidecars: detachable sidecar that is always attached and sometimes attached. Guess some politician figured another way to seperate us from our money. I know there are some sidecarists in SC, do you have a class M with D or C and I can't find info on the three wheel tests. 'Preciate any help!
  21. Is the piece of frame that the Vin# is attached to (lower right hand side that needs to be removed to slide the motor out) on the 1st gens interchangable???? ie can I take a lower motor frame with Vin# attached from an 84VR & exchange it onto a 90VR ??? :canada:
  22. Several months ago I bought a Rampage lift so that I could take the Venture and the camper to the Grand Canyon this year. I had a couple set backs with my right knee replacement and haven't been able to try it out until this past week. Attached are a few pics of the lift in action and the end result. This is one darn nice unit and really is a one man operation.
  23. I am trying to calibrate my new SyncPro Carburetor Tuner. I checked the idle, it is at 1000rpm. I attached the short hose to Cylinder 1 -- which I believe is the rear cylinder on the left side, and normally wears the cap instead of the tube. See picture. When I start the bike to calibrate, the leftmost column rises all the way up and past the scale. The other tubes are also very high, but don't get sucked into the engine. It seems the engine has too much vacuum. What should I do? Should all the other vacuum tubes and caps still be attached? Should I reduce idle? I'm getting frusty, Dave
