  1. anyone know why I can't download these items from the tech library? It can't seem to find the files so I am wondering if this is a temporary thing or if I am out of luck. thanks
  2. Any one know where I might find a service manual for an 83 Venture Royale that I could download on pdf files? thanks
  3. Attached are the latest versions of our VRAssistance List. The purpose of this list is to give you a list of members who have signed up to offer assistance should you have problems while on the road or just wish to contact a member to say hello. There are two files attached. The XLS file is good if you wish to keep one on your computer as it can be sorted by username, state, country, etc. This is a Microsoft Excel format so if you do not have Microsoft Excel or another program that will open Excel files, it will not work for you. The other list is in .pdf format. It is sorted by state/province and is probably the best choice if you want a list that you can print out and take with you. If you are not on the list and wish to be, please go to your UserCP and "Edit Your Details". Scroll down on that page and you will see the section to add your information. Note that there is a new column now. The first column is the membership status of the people on the list. S = Supporting Member, E = Expired Member, R = Registered Member. A registered member is likely somebody in their trial period that just hasn't become a supporting member yet. These files were updated on September 19th, 2011.
  4. My PC was fine and dandy on Thursday PM. I go on Friday AM and my desktop only had the wallpaper and one icon, the recycle bin. START, PROGRAMS,,,, none found. Windows Explorer,, no user files, programs unuseable. Cutting to the chase, the files are there but Icons and program listings are gone. Files (pictures, documents and such) are found, but not in folders. I do have a newer AV program in use, WebRoot (Essentials, a cloud AV product. been ok for months). So, my son, who is more current on PC installs, is working on restore. Said it's pretty nasty. There are several IT pro's here. Do you know what virus took me down? I have googled for info, found some info, but no one says what the virus is. Anyone know this one,,, and how to avoid it. Thanks, Mike G.
  5. When ever i try to print a statement from my bank my computer always crashes. If I open the statements online, it opens a pdf file. I thought maybe it was IE causing the problem but If I save the document to a file, close down all the programs, open the PDF with READER and try to print....the same crash happens. What it is ..... I get a message that says "Spooler subsystem app has encountered a problem and needs to close" or something like that. I end up with my computer not seeing the printer (HP colour laserjet 2600) It has happened many times in the past and I have to delete spool printer and driver files, then into the registry and delete a couple of files. I know how to make it work again...but not how to stop it from crashing when I want to print my bank statements!! I don't understand because I can print other PDF files EDIT: Running Windows Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 2 IE9 64 bit Operating System Quad core 2.2Ghz 4 Gig Ram
  6. Hi Don: Any chance of enabling the newer Office files: ie) docx instead of doc
  7. VR Assistance GPS files. The attached folder holds all the GPS files you need to upload the VR Assistance files into your Zumo, download the entire folder . They were created with the Garmin Zumo in mind. If your GPS uses this file extension (*.gpx) for Custom Points of Interest then they should work for your GPS. However I did not test these files in any GPS other then the Zumo 550 so if you have a Streetpilot you will have to test it on your own, but the file should work for any Garmin GPS that uses this file extension. If you download any of these files for any GPS other then the Zumo 550 please let everyone else know if they work or not, please include the manufactor and model of your GPS. You can download the entire US_CANADA file or you can download by State/Province to save memory. I downloaded the entire US_CANADA file into mine (file is not that big only 124 KB) but I made separate State/Province files for those that prefer to load only the states they ride in. I have included a word file (GPS File Member) which I downloaded from this site. It's a list of members who volunteered to help other members on the road. If you look at this file you will notice that some members are in BOLD print and others are not. If you name is in BOLD print then you have been included in the files. If you name is not in bold then you were not included in the files. You will also note that if you only provided your first name when you filled out this information on the site then your name will be follwed with a number. I used the last 4 digits of your phone number, I had to do this because you can't save a file with the same name and I had a bunce of Jims etc.. There are various reasons that you were left out, your phone number may be missing or you have not listed a city or the city you did list is misspelled or I can’t find a GPS coordinate for it. I did not use anyones' personnel address for the GPS coordinate, I used the city they listed. So if your in Tampa Florida you will be able to call up all members who live in Tampa. Call the person you want to get in touch with for directions because all the members in Tampa use the same GPS coordinate etc. If members wish to give you their GPS coordinte you can save that information over the files information. If you were left out for any reason but wish to be included in an update, which is to come later then please email me with the missing information and I will include you in the update. To upload the Custom POI’s into your Zumo you can follow the direction in your manual or you can follow the directions I have included below. If you do not have the POI Loader program you will need to download and install it on you computer. You can find it from this site: http://www.garmin.com/products/poiloader/ You need to put all of your Custom POI’s in 1 folder. The POI Loader will load all GPX files that you have in the folder. You can’t load the GPS with multiple directories so put all your POI’s in 1 folder. Open the POI Loader program. Wait for POI Loader to locate your GPS and click Next. Find the folder that your POI file is in and select it Hit Next, this will load all your POIs to the GPS Hit Finish Disconnect your GPS from the computer Turn on your GPS Touch "Where To" On your GPS, go to "Extras". Select "Custom POI's". If you see the list of custom POI's your ready to go. I am not an expert but I will try and help you if you email me. I have tested all the files on my Zumo and they work. If you find any errors please email me about them and I will correct them and include them in the update. There was a lot of work involved with creating these files and I was careful not to make mistakes but I know that there are errors so if you find one please let me know. If your GPS uses any of the following file extensions email me and I will email the file back to you in the requested format. Garmin GPS Database Version 2 (*.gdb) Garmin GPS Database Version 3 (*.gdb) MPS files (*.mps) DXF files (*.dxf) I tried to think of every thing but I'm sure I left something out. Enjoy.
  8. I got a Zumo for Christmas and am not that impressed with the sound quality from the Mp3 files I uploaded to the Zumo. How is the sound quality from the GXM 30 when listening to XM Radio? Is it in stereo?
  9. Is it possible to send an attachment via the built in Email function on this site? There have been a few people that have had difficulty opening the PDF files that I have posted in the past from the site. When I email them a copy it seems to work fine. An example is today Jimbob5 can not open the files in the Starting circuit thread I posted last night, but others can. I would email him a copy but first need to PM or email him for his email address rather than just being able to send it to him first time. Gary
  10. I need some of your help. I have a Garmin 550 and I wanted to load some of my music onto an SD card. When I connect it to my laptop and explore, all I see is two files One is the Garmin (looks like GPX files) The other says MP3. when I explore the MP3 it has a few songs BUT not from the SD card. How do you make the thing read the SD card? This is really a furstrating thingand I know you can help Sendme a PM or call me @ 512-699-2131 Thanks in advance for your help as I am sure some of you have had the same issue??
  11. Just a short note. I posted this info on the other forum I participate in, so for some of you this may be a repeat/you already knew this. There are several POI files you can add to your Garmin, TomTom, and Magellan GPS units. POI files are Points Of Interest. I found a good source of these files here: http://www.poi-factory.com/ You can add such things as all the USA Yamaha Dealers, Wal-Marts, Starbucks, Campgrounds, Festivals, Radio Stations Frequencies in your area, Lighthouses, Antique Stores, Scanner Freqs or Amateur Radio Repeaters, Cemeteries, Golf Courses, Nightclubs...whatever. Most of these files are free, but a few (like redlight camera locations) require a small 'donation'... I loaded over 30,000 POI's into my 2 Garmin NUVI's, and this is in addition to the Members names that we got a while back, from, Pilot, I believe, if memory serves. For the Garmin, its simply a matter of downloading a free POI loader, then installing that on your computer, then hooking up the Garmin to your computer via the USB cable, then downloading the POI files that you want. Magellan and TomTom have similar procedures, but MAY involve an extra step or two. Pretty slick and now I can get addresses, phone numbers, and locations of thousands of places, and businesses, that are not included in the stock POI file included with the Garmin. This Venture website is full of members who like to modify or tweak these bikes...you can do the same with a GPS. Have fun!
  12. It was when moving the site to a new server that I realized or remembered that Windows Explorer search function would NOT search within PHP files for words and/or phrases. I was trying to find all the files that had certain database and absolute paths so that I could update them to work with the new server. This will be no use to many of you but for those who sometimes need to search within all file types, it worked very well. Windows Grep
  13. Finished creating the GPS POI files see the post below and please reply to the link below only so that we can keep all post regarding this in one place, THANKS. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=176169#post176169
