New Issue on my 83'
dingy replied to ActionJax's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Below is link to cleaning throttle side switch on the MKI. http://venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=43027 The connectors for the solenoid are important, but would not cause a shut down of a running motor. They could be a problem for starting though. Gary -
My winter project is going to be building a bobber style venture, with Tweety power, maybe more. Probably be a multiple year process, like Tweety has been. I have most of motor components already, VMax heads, final drive & most of Vboost. 1300 block. I am interested if a 1st gen block will fit in a 2nd gen frame. I don't care about the head bracing, I will compensate for loss of that structure somehow. I like the single frame tube from the neck back style. It would allow me to use a standard tank on bike. Also like the appearance of the rear fender for the Indian look I am after. I am not after a chopper style, but more along a retro look. Single seater with old style sprung seat for one. I want to stay with mono shock set up for better handling. I have two 1st gen bare frames here, but I am not warm & fuzzy with what I would need to do to modify one to get what I am after. Gary

Even though the fuses appear OK, they might still be the problem. Tug on each fuse at the end near metal band and see if one is loose, especially the middle one. This is the ignition circuit fuse, and it would cause your symptoms. Gary -

Will you send me a link to carb article? Gary -
Fairly easy to replace. You might want to consider putting a lower temp fan switch in it when you do this. I replaced mine a couple of months ago and bike now runs much cooler, like 2/3 way up gauge. Down side is the fan will run more, thus putting more load on the charging system. Below is text from a thread I copied about a low cost replacement switch. Picture shows fan switch on an MKII, it is the large hex head dual prong unit at bottom of coolant junction block. Gary Lower Temp Fan Switch Like many, I noticed my water temp gets very close to the redline before the fan kicks in. Once it does, it cools down nicely but I feel more comfortable with the fan coming on at a lower temperature. The thread for the switch is 16m x 1.5. Using that info, I did some searching. I found a good cheap alternative on ebay that switches on the fan significantly earlier than the stock one. The one I got was from a 1988 Chevy Sprint, part number Beck Arnley 201-1367. Closes @ 185 Deg. F; Opens @ 194 Deg. F

Also check the ground connection coming from the coolant sensor block, it is just as important. Gary -
David was in his 5th grade class when the teacher asked the children what their fathers did for a living. All the typical answers came up - fireman, policeman, salesman, office worker, etc.. David was being uncharacteristically quiet and so the teacher asked him about his father. “My father's an exotic dancer in a gay bar and he takes off all his clothes in front of other men. Sometimes, if the offer's really good, he'll make a date with some guy and go out with him for money.” The teacher, obviously shaken by this statement, hurriedly set the other children to work on some coloring, and took little David aside to ask him, "David? Is that really true about your father?" "No," said David, “ Actually, he's a performance engineer at Harley Davidson, but I was too embarrassed to say that in front of the other kids.

I carry a CO2 inflator & about 5 C02 cartridges. Same thing as pellet guns use. Twist bottom cover on & it punctures cartridge. Never had to use it, so I don't know how many cartridges it would take to air up a flat. Pictures have a standard pop bottle cap for scale reference. That would be a soda cap to some of you. Also carry a standard plug kit. Gary

Me too !! Tweety II is going to be something as close to a 40's Indian as I can get. It will be Max'ed of course. Already have the 1300 block, VMax heads & final drive. Thinking an aqua color for this one, don't know why though. Picture are of a die-cast model I bought my cousin as a house warming gift a few years ago. Gary -
I have used the credit card sized key generator for about 2 years also. I think there is a one time charge of $5 or so, but it is free after that. Basically it adds a random 6 digit code to your password. Not sure about the 30 second limitation though, I know you can't use the same code twice. Gary

Even BoomerC3PO was praising 1st gen's a week ago. You need to remember that Texas roads don't have many nicely banked high speed curves. Riding for miles straight might have made Squid forget what the 1st gen does. Gary

A well fitting hand impact driver. Get a decent one, like Sears. Harbor Freight bits are slightly stronger than a licorice stick. Gary -

I have intentionally disabled emails from the Facebook sight related this group. This is just to cut my incoming emails down. On the 21st I received 9 emails in a row as each picture was posted to Facebook. I do not want these emails to clutter my incoming folder with the possibility of overlooking a needed email. Don't need no stinkin' louvers. I notice more heat from the water pump location on my right foot than anything else. Gary http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/af193/gdingy101/Blackoutmotor.jpg- 23 replies

Dj was kind and didn't mention I broke his when we were trying to find the rattle this weekend. I opened them to get a better feel for the motor sounds & right side didn't survive. Gary- 23 replies
