  1. I had same noise. Broken pinion shaft. Don't shy away from a vmax rear. I and several others saw no increase in fuel consumption and it makes the bike much snapping. Also plenty of vmax rears out there. 85 up 1200 vmax will all work.
  2. Interesting concept. License plate would have to be moved to back of carrier also to avoid long stares from LEO.
  3. PO put a Barons on my 03. I like it. Only issue is the 7 color display defaults to red. There is a push button to select one of the other colors. One is green/amber, close to the dash color. Wish there was a way to default to green but I don't think it's possible.
  4. Here's the link to the JP cycles ones I bought and really like. 100% bolt in including wiring. No mods at all required. http://www.jpcycles.com/product/310-144 Harley also uses the same physical size PAR36 passing lamps (I think most other makes of bikes too), so anything that fits a Harley will fit a Yamaha.
  5. Glad you are not hurt too badly. People out there are IDIOTS!
  6. Pretty sure the JP cycles are these same Wagner H7616 bulbs. They were in a Wagner box. 37 watts.70,000 Candlepower. Just checked they are only $15. The reviews on the JP cycles site sold me and I have to agree with their comments. Only problem now is I have to upgrade my. directionals since the spots and Silver star ultra basicaly wash out the stock 1157 signals. Looking at 2 watt right angle LED amber bulbs from Superbright LEDS.
  7. I would not have the person who said the higher RPM motor near my WC system. You are extracting heat and there are so many variables that a little more Airflow isn't going to hurt. Ask him if you should also be putting more in when it's 10 degrees cooler out.....
  8. Get a pair of sealed PAR36 halogens from JP cycles. $17 each and much brighter and whiter than stock. I got mine in about 3 days and love them. Bolt in replacement. Cover your fender before you start. They are a little tricky to get in with ring bulb and bucket but stock ones are too.
  9. Glad Tom is ok. Bikes can be replaced, loved ones can't. As much as I like riding at night I tend to avoid it if possible and try to keep to well traveled roads when I do. 2 years ago I came across a black bear munching on some road kill, then had a close call with a deer a couple of weeks later. Both in the dark. I changed my commute route after that when going home late. I don't even think about night riding in October before deer hunting season around here.
  10. Graingers has a good selection of motors.
  11. I've owned one nice black vehicle. Look great when clean, waxed and dent free but never again. So much time required to keep em looking that way. Rather drive/ride.
  12. Just re read your post and you did the clay. Works nice huh?
  13. Try a clay bar and lots of lubrication water before polishing next time. It cleans microscopic dirt from the paint so it doesn't grind in during polishing. Mind you I don't do this often but when I do what a nice result.
  14. I just tell em it's a bored out Vmax motor. That gives them something to think about. Put on a dyna3000 so you can rev it then if you need more a vmax rear end and you won't have any trouble showing most any VTwin your tail lights.
  15. My 88 with 60k mi. has a SCARY amount of wobble but synching the carbs made a world of difference at idle. I wouldn't worry too much about it. I think they all wobble to some degree. The idle noise is probably normal for these bikes. The 3000 rpm noise definitely is.
  16. Do a carb synch before you take anything apart. Don't ask me how I know.
  17. There is an owners manual posted on this site. You can get lots of info from this.
  18. In the warmer months I remove the lowers. This makes for a much more comfortable stretch.
  19. Quote. "I have concluded that the reason for the occasional clunk is somewhere between the seat and the handlebars." I've traced "that" noise to a loose nut that connects the handler to the seat.
  20. Probably not the issue bu there is a "hosts" file on Windows machines that is effectively a blocking list for websites you don't want your pc to be able to access. If all other sites work and others have no problem it may be something to check.
  21. Shifts, especially 3rd, were VERY clunky when just putting around and shifting lazily (slow). Then I noticed that when getting on it, no clunk. With some experimentation I now have the "putting around" shift technique. When about to shift pull in the clutch and firmly move the lever AT THE SAME TIME. Most times it's like an automatic trans shift. I know that some will say to shift without the clutch. I can't bring myself to do that regularly Before I was pulling in the clutch and then shifting. This lets the gears get out of synch and crunch.
  22. Every RSV needs better rear lighting. This is the easiest to install option out there. Love my 100 LED tail light. Bright as ____!
  23. After carbs were synchronized I'm averaging 40 mpg mostly solo. Bout 170 till fuel light comes on. At 180miles I'm putting in about 4.5 +4.6 gallons. Best I have gotten was 42mpg before carb synch. I could probably get 44 now if I rode easy.
  24. Inexpensive solution is halogen replacement from JP cycles. Search for par36 halogen. About $17each. I have them and they match my superstar ultra bulb. Not sure how they will fare against HID but pretty bright, 37W power draw.
  25. I use Plexus on the painty and chrome stuff as well. It's anti static and is supposed to fill in tiny scratches. Good double waxing in the winter.
