  1. Check carb synch. My 87 had similar symptoms. Synch improved 300%.
  2. Malware bytes software is free and will clean out stuff that Norton and avg AntiVirus software cant. You first need to be able to boot to windows however, try F8 during boot and select safe mode.
  3. Dell laptops SUCK, HP or Toshiba is the way to go on laptops. I don't even consider desktops viable anymore with the prices of laptops being within $200 of same spec laptop. There are some situations with expansion cards where laptops don't do as well but not too many. I worked in disk drive industry most of my career. Do yourselves a favor and buy from HP, Dell etc vs aftermarket. They certify the top performing heads and platters. Aftermarket gets whatever is left. You pay about $15 more but worth it. Did I mention DELL laptops SUCK!!!!!!
  4. Nice and about as indestructable as our Ventures.
  5. Cost of more frequent tire and brake pad replacement will always favor car over bike unless you get 2x gas mileage. But who cares for the fun factor.
  6. I had a bad ground from engine to frame. Bike ran great but stereo was flaky. Added ground from batt to frame fix it
  7. Silverstar ultra in headlight and $14 each sealed 35 W Haolgens from JP Cycle gives me enough light for my purposes. HID could be better but too many issue stories to consider.
  8. Lube mating surface from lever to piston in master cyl. Made a big difference.
  9. PO of mine used a stainless braid shielded line. It's only running 6" aka Harley on motor style but I'd strongly consider this if running to the dash. Not sure where to get them but should be able to find right length. Gauge never reads above 80 PSI cold. You will be shocked how low the pressure on these motors runs with a fully warmed up motor!!!
  10. Buddy of mine fried his Truck ecu$$$ when welding plow frame. Mechanic said if battery was disconnected it wouldn't have happened.
  11. Timely post. Just went to the eye Dr yesterday. Virtuous detachment accompanied with "floaters". Said should clear up but suggested drinking lots of water and most importantly fish oil capsules. He said fish oil will take about 6 weeks to have effect. Internal dehydration thing as we get older.
  12. I own both. Totally different rides. 1st gen is a typical heavy cruiser with a good lean angle and motor that is happiest between 4 and 8k rpm. Front end needs to have progressive springs and fork brace to eliminate spindly feel. RSV is a luxury tourer with decent handling and enough get up and go to satisfy most as long as you keep it high in the rev range. It is happy putting at low rpm but drop a couple gears if you need to accelerate. RSV is much more comfortable and more enjoyable than 1st gen when ridden at moderate speeds. 1st gen is faster but I still prefer overall the RSV experience. This is just me. Your tastes may be different.
  13. Don't be tempted to buy one of the many China clone Android tablets. We bought one at work for $200 (Flypad 3) to try and see if it would help us with some field work. The resistive screens are totally junk, Capacitive screens are used on the good tablets. This one only really works with the supplied stylus. Wifi reception is terrible, you need to be within 30 feet of the signal or it doesn't work. Android OS is fine, display quality and battery life are good too but the sub par input and wifi makes this a great paperweight. Just glad it wasn't my $200.
  14. My personal best was 8.9 while working in Tokyo this past spring. Aftershocks were numerous and many above 7. Yee hawww!
  15. Highly unlikey you will have a problem. 1. As long as the metal strips more or less cover the area under the magnets the magnetic fields will mostly follow the path thru the metal and back to the magnets 2. I have seen the PCB of the TCI. I don't remember seeing any inductors, relays or coils, (components that would see effects of strong magnetic fields). But wasn't specifically looking for them, this is just my reccolection. 3. Magnetic fields decay very quickly with distance.
  16. 83-92 front plastics and radiator covers all interchange (except headlight bits). Side panels by your legs and everything reward is different from 83-85mk1 to 86-92mk2.
  17. Congrats Mike. We met last tues. Your 83 is pristine. Like one other poster said Harleys and Victorys are easier to test drive. Wings less so, maybe a consideration. Only downside is what ever you choose you will be jonsing for one after your day out. These guys know what they are doing giving out free rentals.
  18. Backrest makes a huge difference in seating comfort (if you don't have one already). I'm planning to send my seat to Rick Butler this winter. Many recommendations for his seat mods here on this site. I dont have a particular problem, but his mod is small money so even if it helps moderately seems like a good deal. Forward pegs are another must for comfort. Kuraykan longhorns ate the ones to get. All in all the RSV is pretty damn comfortable but would not be nearly so without backrest and pegs. Dang its heavy tho. Need to really pay attention to where you stop lest sand or oil gets between your footwear and pavement.
  19. You won't be disappointed with the Kurakyan Longhorns mentioned above. Fully adjustable to any preference.
  20. Walmart black cup cozy cut down. Reduces glare and I don't have to worry about forgetting a $30 cover at the gas station. The cheap way out.
  21. Looks all too familiar. Splines can be removed from drive shaft and it's OK. Pumpkin is pooched. Yammy doesn't sell gear sets so more it's than likely a greasy sulfuric smelling paperweight.
  22. Harley dealers carry the progressive pump in the previous link. Get one and you can experiment on the road to find settings you like. I run 7 front and 40 rear. This is the best compromise for me. My wife says this is the smoothest riding vehicle we own and when riding solo its just firm enough for my tastes so no need to adjust unless we are heavily loaded with luggage.
  23. Goose you REALLY know these machines!!! You are spot on with this comment and thank you for explaining why my RSV has gotten much more sensitive over the last month. Looks like I will be replacing my E3 rear earlier than thought and going back to a 150 front when my 130 needs replacing.
  24. Typo 2357 is the brighter direct replacement.
