Does anyone keep good records of the cost of ownership of these large bikes? Yeah, we know what it costs to fill up the gas tank, or put on a set of new tires, but I wonder if someone on the forum has kept good records of what it costs per mile to own and ride one of these machines? I can guess, and make some educated calculations, but what I'd like to do is make a comparison between say, owning and riding a Venture for 5 years, vs owning and driving an average compact or midsize car (of about the same initial purchase price) for the same amount of time and miles. Of course you might have to correct for mileage not ridden in the winter, but if you compare the initial purchase, the insurance, the gas, the tires, the maintenance, repairs, and any upgrades wanted, are we ahead financially with a large touring bike? I doubt it. To be fair, I would assume that both vehicles should be covered by a warranty for the entire 5 years, and any warranty repairs that are done, do not affect the owners cost of ownership. But I think its also fair to include any and all riding gear purchased, including helmets, riding suits, heated gear, boots, gloves, goggles and so on. This gear should be included in the cost of ownership, cuz you gotta have most of it. Sure, we get some decent fuel mileage, but when you figure ALL the costs involved, including resale value after say 5 years...I bet a standard econobox car is cheaper to own. I'm not including the 'fun' factor, we all know bikes are more enjoyable most of the time. Does anyone keep good accurate records from purchase to resale? I never have...

I have read about the problems with the 06/07 2nd Gens and the basket whine. I know that friends don't let friends buy 2nd Gens ( hey just couldn't resist ) But my friend wants me to go look at an 06 with 53K miles. Supposedly they want $4,000.00 for it. The price seems good, even a little low. What should I look for on an 06 ? What speed is the whine audible ? Anything else ? Probably no records as it is being sold at a local pawn shop and they have had it for a while. If I get the VIN, wouldn't the dealer be able to pull records ?

Has anybody been approached by letter from GfK? Some sort of research group conducting a Motorcycle Evaluation. They say they will pay me $100.00 for my opinions IF I qualify. The interview is supposed to take 90 minutes. Interviews are being conducted 1-3rd in St. Paul /Minneapolis. They already know I have a 2006 Venture so they must be searching DMV records or Yamaha records looking for people. I was thinking of turning them on to this site and they can read all the opinions they want, after they give me the $100.00. So has anyone done this? Do they give you the money at the time of the interview or is the check in the mail? LOL Was it a waste of time? Was it at least interesting? Let’s have your comments! Bubber

I need help in getting a copy or two of the November 2009 Marine Leatherneck magazine. It's not something that I can just walk into the local Barnes & Noble and purchase. There is an article in the magazine called Vietnam: Last Full Measure of Devotion by Dick Camp. This is important to me since this is the first published account and public statment that my brother survived the initial crash and was not KIA as all the officical military records show - other than his medical records. If you read the article my brother was the one found alive in the Huey, although he did die later waiting for medical treatment. Any suggestions and help in getting a copy of the magazine would be wonderful. I have a eye on a 1st gen what do I look for so I don't get hosed? He said the 2nd gear was fixed. How could I tell? this what I think I should look for. Cracks in plastic. dash working repair records if available. I know enough to listen to the way people talk and try to decide how much is BS or not. Any help appreciated. Bubber

what exactly does it mean that the guys attorney has file a Motion for Discovery ? he also put in a motion for bond reduction...... i keep checking the public court records daily to see if anything new shows up and these entries were added to the record yesterday.
