These bikes were on my short list for a gen1 upgrade. Couldn't get comfortable enough with the styling to pay 8k more than for a good used 2ng gen but it was close. Never rode one but all the tests I read gave them high marks for handling and performance.
  2. Front tire, dunlop original with 17k is getting replaced with elite3 next week to match the new e3 on the back. Ordered 1 size smaller. Well see how this behaves. Hadn't given a thought to fairing mount but this makes total sense.
  3. Ya. Just curious if others had noticed the same when moving from 1st to 2nd gens.
  4. Add 2 more My 88 and an 84 I bought for parts but ended up giving to a friend. Saw a real sweet gold Mk2 the other day. Didn't have opportunity to talk to owner but I don't think he's a member here.
  5. Loving my "new to me" 03RSV. One thing that seems to be worse than my 1st Gen is the reaction to cross winds and headwinds. Old paint is relatively unfazed while the RSV seems to be much more at the whim of mother nature. It hasn't been all that windy here, maybe 30mph winds tops. Granted the RSV has all the aerodynamic qualities of a barn door (BTW my profession is in airflow dynamics) compared to the 1st Gen; but the difference on the road is striking. Anyone else notice this or is there something I need to be checking on.
  6. I think it's good. Saw some stuff in classified I was interested in but had already sold. Notifications soul get me there sooner.
  7. Not red riders so his should still be avail.
  8. Not that you loose the urge to twist the wick, just a sweet cruise when not hunting for the redline so no need to to get the required stress relief. Things you can't see in the pics. Dyna3000 barons tach and basically 90% of the star accessories catalog. No chirping, (I test drove a 2005 that was horrible) got lucky on this one.
  9. 03 RSV 16K miles in my favorite color. Need a larger garage now. Love the sound of the RK pipes and the mechanical harmony. Feels and Sounds like driving a 70 Chevelle SS454. It doesn't accelerate like the MkII but the wife likes the ride much better and the more relaxed feel doesn't encourage me to do as many banzai runs. Will keep me in better standing with LEO.
  10. Just bought an 03 with the bakers. The different top and bottom adjustment is usefull. I still have stock tall windshield and upper part of the bakers allowed me to get rid of the exhaust smell at some speeds caused by the barn door windshield.
  11. On a related topic. My 1st gen saw no mileage change with a shorter vmax rear, still about 38mpg. Definitely peppier at higher revs. 2nd gens are geared even taller.
  12. Most reliable car I owned. Go for the manual if possible. You won't regret either though.
  13. The culture here is very different than we are used to in the US. Good of society, country, company trumps good of the individual. You won't see any looting here unless things get much much worse, then it will be food for survival, not TV's to sell on Ebay. I could go into the downsides of this mindset but it doesn't seem appropriate now.
  14. I don't believe any information on the nukes at this point can be believed. However bad it is, the last thing the govt here needs is a panic. Fortunately weather condiitons at this point will carry most of the bad stuff offshore. If the winds change however it's a different story. Most disheartening is there are several million folks within 50-60 mi radius that probably have no real means to get out of there since there is a lack of roads, food, water, gas.
  15. With the population density here I'd be very surprised if the final total is less than 10,000 and foresee 30-50,000. Very sad. Aftershocks may be lessening, I was able to sleep through Saturday night. Friday night the aftershocks were strong and woke me up several times. One I dreamed my wife was gently shaking me to wake me up but it was the bed shaking. I keep a 1/2 full bottle of water on my table here so I know if it's a gently rolling aftershock or just my body playing tricks. The large aftershocks are unmistakable and now just routine.
  16. Arrived here Tues eve for routine 2 week trip. So I thought.... Typical quake on Wed and another smaller one on Thursday. I come here often and seldom experience a quake, never mind 2 during my stays. Friday was something else. I was working in a data center when the shaking started. Holy mother of Jesus!!!!!! I'm 200 miles from the epicenter, I can only imagine what it must have been in Sendai. Long story short Tokyo is pretty much back to normal once the train service restarted on Saturday but the northern part of the country is a shambles with horrific loss of life. I'm glued to CNN, Internet and local channels trying to figure out if the nukes melting down 170 miles north are going to be a factor. I think not, this far south, but what a horrific fate for those folks up north to have survived a quake and killer wave to now have to deal with that. What ever happens in my life from now I know I'm blessed to have to been spared that. Please give your prayers for the lives lost and more prayers for the poor souls in Northern Japan trying to get through all that is going on here.
  17. I'm beginning to look for a newer 2ng gen. Have heard some 2007s had a head casting issue. Is this real and any other issues on 2005 and newer models?
  18. SHHHH. Don't tell Obama about this. He'll be proposing govt run auto insurance here next. Just one more step in his socialism for all plan. Think health. care is expensive now? Just wait till it'sFREE.
  19. Canadian prices were released at 22-28k depending on model and options. Expect US to be close.
  20. The new BMW K1600 GTL looks like my Gen 1 replacement when they start coming on the used market a couple of years from now. (I assume Yamaha will still have done nothing by then). Anyone else started looking at them? At least on paper as there are none at the dealers till spring.
  21. Holidays are rife with fake E-cards, UPS confirmations etc. If I'm really curious I'll open on my Droid phone to see what's there. Viruses are predominantly a windows thing (for now).
  22. Did mine with 60k Mi. on clock. No idea about previous maintenance. It's a pain but I did find 5 intakes tight. One real tight. Glad I did it. 265 & 270 shims had to be bought.
  23. Look at the Completed listings. Lower left of eBay page and you will see what actually sells. A few types of parts sell, many never sell at all. How many $30 front axles can you find a buyer for.
  24. I worked in the hard drive industry 24 years. I only buy drives from Dell or hp website. there is a reason, better quality key components vs retail market product. $10 more, I feel its worth it. you would be amazed at the mechanical technology in these things. jmho
  25. 6-9000 buys a gen 1 and about ten years of gas and maint. electric is coming but not until battery performance increases quite a bit. I for one could use one on my daily commute and get free electricity at work but the economics aren't there yet
