  1. Like some of you might now I was looking into buying some Second Gen carbs that were listed on eBay by Pinwall Cycles. Well I got them for 304 US$ with shipping in USA and am one happy guy. They are already on their way to Earl Harell (skydoc_1). Then Earl sent me a mail Saturday morning and told me he had found some V-Max cams for my bike and was on his way over to Harrisburg to have a look at them. These cams are from a 1989 Vmax and only have 80 miles on them!!! Thats right, only 80 miles! The guy who had them rebuilt the motor, ran it 80 miles, sold the block and heads and had the cams left over.To cut a long story short Earl got all four of them for 200 US$ and now in general we only have the following things missing before we start the project: - (2) Intake boots - Yamaha part number 4XY-13586-10-00 - (2) Intake boots - Yamaha part number 4XY-13596-10-00 -(4) Intake boot clamps - Yamaha part number 4XY-13575-00-00 -(4) airbox boots - Yamaha part number 4XY-14453-00-00 -(4) airbox boot clamps - Yamaha part number 90460-58015-00 - (16) Spring valve inner - Yamaha part number 36Y-12113-00-00 -(16) Spring valve outer - Yamaha part number 36Y-12114-00-00 -(4) fabricated adapter plates (Good old Earl-skydoc_1)) and the Dyna ignition module as well as bolts washersh and stuff. So, if any of you guys and girls have any of the above sitting in your garage and would be willing to part with them then I would surely be interested in buying. I´ll keep you posted as things move along. Friendly regards from Iceland / Norway. Jonas http://www.yamahaofwarren.com/common/images/blank.gif
  2. I have read a couple of threads about using VMX cams in our Royal Stars. I have a chance to pick up a pair of complete heads from an 85 VMX1200 for real cheap. Will the cams and valve springs work in my 96 XVZ1300 Tour Classic? Are there better options for the cams?
  3. Hi All, I have introduced myself in the new members section so i wont bore you again. To the questions! I am picking up my 96 Royal Star tomorrow and am looking at ways to unleash the beast being a serial modder like i am! way the reviews read you would think the poor bike could not pull the head off a custard its supposedly so underpowered. However i dont expect it to be anywhere near that bad. I suspect its just a bunch of harley riding journos who arent actually used to a bike that actually revs out! My plan of attack is 4 into 4 slipons( it is bone stock!) dyna 3000 ignition, big air kit , vmax cams and springs and 32mm carbs. I might look at the Vmax rear hub as well but i would prefer to see how it pulls after the engine mods first. Now the issues! 4 into 4 pipes seem non existent now. Am i best off finding some generic aftermarkets and fabbing some mounts? Also can the cams and springs be swapped without removing the engine? Any help appreciated. Great to be here.
  4. I'm trying to find out if anyone knows where I can get a performance cam kit for my 99 RSV. I'd also like to know if a cam from a VMax will work in the 1300 Venture. Can anyone help? If anyone knows the specs for the cams in either engine, I'd love to have them. Thanks, New member, Mike Waldman
  5. My question for today is; Will a 1200 Vmax TCI plug-n-play on my 1985 Venture? It seems to make sense because I have Vmax cams . . .
  6. I've read all the great posts here about swapping my carbs to the 32mm on my 98 RSTD.I bought a set from an 02 Venture to do the job this winter.I also found some heads with cams, valves & springs at pinwall at a reasonable price(around $200.00 delivered) from an 02 Venture.Could I just simply buy and install the heads & intakes with the cams in them and not worry about making the adapter brackets and machining the intake to make for a relatively easy bolt on upgrade? The Venture heads & cams are an upgrade over my 98 RSTD cams, right?? Do the Venture heads bolt on? Is this a worthwhile upgrade, since I'm doing the carbs anyway?? Any input is appreciated.Oh and the rear v-max differential swap is on my upgrade list too...I need more power!!
  7. does anyone have 1 cam shaft from a 1st gen, 2nd gen, or vmax that they're willing to donate to the cause of building a shim tool by flyinfool ? will pay for shipping. the cams can be bad, really need to play with the hex area between the cams where the shim tool rides. TIA
  8. I know a few members here are aware of the story of Jonas' bike. Long story short, I was commissioned to do a bunch of modification work on the '98 Royal Star he keeps in here in the States. The list includes VMX cams, 32mm carbs and VMX rear gear along with a few other smaller items. Here are a few pictures to go along with the progress. The first is cams, VMX on the left and stock on the right. There's a good difference in size there. Cams and springs are a drop-in fit. Second is the VMX rear gear being machined for the speedo sensor. Third shows the new pair of bolt holes in the heads to mount the 32mm intakes which have a different bolt pattern to them. Here, the new holes are the upper right and lower left, where the holes for the stock 28mm carbs are the opposite. My '96 did not have the extra set of bosses for the bolt holes, so I used an adapter plate as shown in my 32mm carburetor swap article elsewhere on this board. I was not aware that later heads had blank bosses like these do, so in this case, instead of adapter plates, I drilled and tapped the bosses for the bolt holes. The adapter plates on my bike work fine, but this is a nicer result. The fourth shows the 32mm carbs in place. I am almost finished with this project. I have had to procure a few odd fiddly little parts at the last minute, stuff that you can never foresee. Once those come in, it should only be a couple more days and it should be ready to ride. I know he is anxious to see it and ride it this summer.
  9. ICBC (our government insurance co) is ramping up more intersection cams to catch those "red-light-runners". http://news.ca.msn.com/local/britishcolumbia/article.aspx?cp-documentid=27201663 Note at the bottom of the article there's a link to the locations of the cams.
  10. Can anyone tell me camshafts that fit a 1983-1993 venture would fit my 1999 RSTD and if I would get more power if I put them in? I found some on Ebay when I was looking for vmax cams which I can't seem to find anywhere. Thanks
  11. http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=-qvXbIenivk cant believe some of these,
  12. Ok guys, the new cams are installed and the engine is back in the frame. I connected the battery and cranked it over. The front cylinders are firing, the back cylinders are not. The back cylinders are spitting out of the carbs. I checked and found no compression on those cylinders. I removed the valve covers and rechecked the cam timing. It looks right with T1 = back cams aligned and T2 @ 430 degrees counter-clockwise and front cams aligned. Any ideas as to why the back cylinders are not firing?
  13. Ok gang, I have a question and this is the place to get lots of opinions! I have installed Vmax cams and springs in my 1987 Venture 1300 engine. Venture intake valve lash is the same as the Vmax. However, exhaust valve lash is different; Venture: .16 - .20 mm Vmax: .26 - .30 mm Which lash will be right for my Frankenstein?
  14. We've decided to have a party in honor of the 5th anniversary of the site. Any excuse for a party. So come one come all. Where what you want or don't wear anything at all (no web cams in here) See you at the party Margaret
  15. While at my dealers today he asked me if I wanted all 4 cams for a VMax new and in the box's. I asked how much and he said $150.00 for all 4. Does anyone here want them for their project bike I dont think I should make my bike any faster than it is.The cops are really looking at me hard here lately. No need to push my luck any more than I do. He said that they fit the 90 to 2005 V Max so if anyone wants them let me know and I will help you get your hands on them. Jeff
