Windows XP Pro - HELP!!!
Grisolm1 replied to wes0778's topic in Computer help and tips for using this site.
Tip for you looking at new hard drives. Buy from Dell or Hp. they get the cream of the crop. Worth the ten extra bucks. I worked for 24 years in the hard drive industry and can tell you this is true. -
Hate to say it but I treat computers like toasters now. by the time you have messed fixing one u can buy newer and better.

1st gen MKII carb question
Grisolm1 replied to dingy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have several period road tests for the 86 MKII. They all state 35mm. One states they went up by 1mm to get there. To my knowledge the 86-92 carbs use the same body as the VMAX but with different jetting. -
1st gen head gasket question
Grisolm1 replied to dingy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Vboost is allowing a Vmax to effectively breath from 2 35mm carbs at high RPM. I don't doubt your motor is going flat at high RPM without it. If you can get a Vboost setup to work then jetting will probably have to go back to Vmax specs. You are a brave man than I with this project. Watch your squish area and piston/head clearance around the piston edges with thinner gaskets. Many motors (at least HDs) like to have ~30 thou here to prevent detonation. -
Me too. Paypal sent

If I read the thread right the offending valve had the wrong shim installed. Is the new shim too thick? What is the clearance for this valve now? This might be preventing it from snapping out..... In this case loosening the cam caps may be the logical next step. I did mine last year and not looking forward to doing it again for a long while. Main PITA is taking everything off so you can get to them. Once you have access, not so bad. When the shims came out there was a definite SNAP to each one when they were pried out of their snug resting spot.

Crowling 2 - Lower Front Vent ?
Grisolm1 replied to GolfVenture's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Leg vents in front of your shins? I'm "pretty" sure both vent and whole assembly are same. Someone else should probably confirm this. Vents in side panels are different but the whole side panel is interchangeable. -
Not any more. Merry Christmas to me.

I've been there and other developing countries. There is no market for big cruisers. The roads and drivers SUCKKKKKK. Life expectancy on anything that can't dart and weave like a small motorbike at relatively low speeds is measured in hours and weeks not years. You think cage drivers HERE are inconsiderate, you ain't seen nothing pal!!!! The only required piece of safety equipment between Western Europe and Japan is a horn. Royal enfield 500 is a BIG bike there. I have a co worker in the software business who rides an enfield in India. Last time he was here here I gave him a ride on my venture. He had never seen such a big bike in India and confirmed my suspicion that the roads are too bad. Harley sales in India? Maybe a dozen.... Basically a story to keep the Harley riders happy till they figure out what is really going on. It will start with Sportsters and Vrods that aren't considered real Harleys by the die hards, then move up the line.

HD report link is quarterly report required by SEC for publicly traded corporations. They have to be honest in the figures but at the same time not scare the bejesus out of the investors so will sugarcoat everything in the text. Interesting to note unit sales are down from same time 2009. So much for Obama's summer of recovery huh? Hope everyone here is going to vote the scum bags out on Tuesday!!!!!!!!! Government doesn't create it just takes!!!!!!!!

Wal Mart Super Tech Moly
Grisolm1 replied to WAC1972's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I use Moly 60 from Honda. It looks like Grey mud, not typical grease, it makes your hands grey (use gloves) and is real hard to clean off. If the Wally world stuff looks like this then maybe it's OK to use? -
Thanks for the words of encouragement. This time I tried e-cigarettes, basically harmless vapor (same as a fog machine) with some nicotine and flavoring. Ya it's cheating but it's the only thing that worked for me (and a lot of others apparently). I only use the crutch a fraction of the time I was puffing on real cigarettes so don't consider it as much cheating as I did at first. You can get these at the mall but there are cheaper and better alternatives online. I'd be happy to share my knowledge on this subject to anyone looking to quit for good. Checkout http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com for more info. Similar forum to this one with folks trying to help each other out.

My lungs not the bike.

My MKII only chirps between 3000 and 3300 RPM. Just ride above or below this and it's great. With the Vmax rear swap it's easier to do now. Did the RSTD bike chirp in a wide range of speeds/RPM's? You had no tach so maybe harder to figure out.
-
I haven't actually done it yet but was toying with the idea of using the circuit board from a set of Personal Computer speakers to do this same thing. These speaker sets can be had for free if you don't already have 5 or 6 sets laying around like I do. Voltage needed should be 12V or less.

Quieter when warmed up?
Grisolm1 replied to MikeZ06Allen's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Mine's DEFINITELY quieter when up to temp. I have an invisible exhaust leak near the rear-pipe to collector joint and loose baffles in the collector. I dimpled the bottom of the collector and most of the baffle rattles went away. Plan to rip the exhaust out and replace with a better collector I got off E-bay (going to rip it's guts out first) then seal up everything I can with copper pipe sleeves, gaskets, copper sealant etc. etc this winter. Once it's nice and quiet I'll put loud pipes on and undo everything hahaha -
K&L Vmax carb rebuild kits will work on any year 1st Gen? (at least my 88 for sure) and have the gaskets you need. Unless you are missing parts from your carb set you are probably as good off rebuilding what you have. Most likely any carb set you buy will need the same parts. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120624782249&crlp=1_263602_304652&ff4=263602_304652&viewitem=&guid=be3a19411250a0aad4e52345faf2a701&hlp=false&rvr_id=152252364462&ua=WVF%3F&itemid=120624782249

Center Stand Help
Grisolm1 replied to pilothawk's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Sneakers or flip flops are a no no for this operation. Need good boots with stiff soles so you can out basically ALL your weight on the centerstand lever. At 250 lbs with suspension set fairly stiff it's not too bad but needs some concentration. -
I'm in. That cussing sound you hear in the distance will be me putting in the left rear mount!!!!!!!

New guy looking at possibly getting a Venture.
Grisolm1 replied to Humbucker's topic in Watering Hole
If you think the Harley you rode has enough power the Venture will be a rocket ship ride! Just keep the revs in the upper range. I have owned Harleys before and recently took the full range of 2010 big harley's out during Laconia Demo rides to see if they have improved. Nice rides, but other than the VRod, (and maybe Screaming Eagle which I couldn't ride that day) pretty much gutless wonders in the engine dept. -
I've been over there as well as a few other "developing?" countries. Basically you take your life in your hands anytime road travel is involved, whether you are driving (not me EVER) or not (taxi). We had a running joke when I was with my team in Indonesia. "If you don't die in the accident you will surely die of infection when they take you to what they call a hospital" God Bless America!!!!! Until you have been to one of these places you have no Idea how good we have it.

Ditto that. If they can be changed w/o pulling motor put me down for a set.

These "may" be fuel injected. Worth researching. It's not a V4
