  1. Paul's still as ugly as ever! You folks have been getting a lot of visitors here lately there Thomas!
  2. Ha Ha ha Ha ha ha ha
  3. Check the other 2 vacuum lines on the intake manifold of #2 and #3 cylinders. These go to the AIS system and if they are disconnected or have leaks in them you will get popping
  4. The temptation is killing me right now
  5. I'll be swapping out my seals and springs to progressives on the front of my '86 this weekend in Bogalusa LA. I'll try to get some pics of it, but I know there is a write up in the 1st gen tech library on swapping to progressive front springs. If your seals aren't leaking you dont need to change them.
  6. Dave, Yes it can, put it on a 2X4 under the center stand, put a jack stand under the front of the engine with the rear tire touching the ground. Pull the front wheel off and you will have enough room to slide the forks out of the triple trees. I'm going to be doing this and fork seals in Bogalusa at Kbrans MD, I'll try to get some picks of the process.
  7. The "Honeycomb" is part of the catalytic converter and really doesn't need to be removed. As far as repacking the HD mufflers, I dont think there is anyway to do that without destroying the muffler. I have ran several sets of the HD mufflers on various RSV's and always drilled the center baffle plates out with the 1 1/4" holesaw. It gave them a throaty sound when opening the throttle up but reasonable while at cruising speed. For the price you can get them for, if and when they get too loud, get another set

Allan and Patty are great folks and make great products! We appreciate them being here for us
  9. Thank you for taking that bull by the horns Russell
  10. All the best to both of them, hate to hear of any of our members going through this. Also good to hear that they are doing better
  11. 1st thing I would do is check the tightness of the steering head bearings and see if that takes care of it. Make sure all your wheel connecting hardware is tightened properly also
  12. Glad to hear it wasn't worse Herb, now a Camaro....your going to get in trouble I have a feeling
  13. Dave, Good to have you here, your in the right spot for info. 1 person right off the bat to contact on the Vmax goodies your planning is Dingy in Ohio. He has Vmaxxed his MKI 1st gen ('83 to '85 is considered this with it's 1200 motor) The front end should you want to go with R1 calipers would need to be upgraded to the MKII forks ('86 to '93) to be able to use those calipers. If you have questions just ask, you have a good base of folks in your area of Ontario that are a wealth of knowledge.
  14. Hey Charlie....shut up and gracefully accept the money! If he didn't want to give you that much he wouldn't have. I have learned a few things in these years, Recieving gracefully and giving freely makes both parties feel good...
  15. Been there done that, no shirt. Had mine do the same thing, take the rear master cylinder off and completely clean it out. The return oriface is clogged and wouldn't allow for thermal expansion of the brake fluid. It had to go somewhere and it did, to the calipers and locked them up. I always take the rear MC off of any older bike I work on and completely clean it.
  16. I imagine that will keep him off any bike for a long time. Hope he heals up quick.
  17. Damn Lewis! I certainly hope this gets over with soon my friend...all the best to you bro!
  18. Have a great trip Dennis, we did the West Coast in '06 when we went to the Venture West III rally in Susanville California. Rode 101 up into Oregon and spectacular doesn't even come close to a word for it. Be safe my friend and take lots of pics
  19. Wrong Way about 5 years ago had a charging issue at Vogel in Georgia. He purchased a 2nd battery, eliminated all unnessecary electrical and with a battery tender charging the unhooked battery during stops, rode the bike back to St. Louis. This also might be an option should you get no resolve from the dealer.
  20. They run about 5 lbs of pressure when the engine is hot and at an idle. The 1st time I saw a gauge with that pressure I had a bit of a pucker. Once your running down the road it runs up to about 30 lbs. Believe it or not, the big 3 did tests on oil pressure and 5 lbs of pressure is sufficient at an idle to keep the engine properly lubricated. Guaranteed Yamaha wouldn't offer a 5 year warranty on the bike if they believed the 5 lbs at warm idle wasn't sufficient. Old gearheads are just used to seeing 30 lbs warm oil pressure at an idle....
  21. Thanks folks, I appreciate all the comments....and yes I did write that. Might surprise some of you to know that I did actually write some poetry while I was in the service....but thats another story
  22. Jeff, Let me know if you want a stator, I have the original one I replaced from my '89 when I installed the Buckeye on it. There was nothing wrong with it, but the bike had 100K on it and I figured since I was replacing the starter clutch I would do the stator at the same time.
  23. Cort, Go to the classifieds and when you click on them you will see right under the St Judes Auction area one that says Member Vendors, click on it then the member your looking for.
  24. Not good Lew, I hope you a speedy remedy to this. Let us know what we can do to help you with Vogel...all the best bro.
  25. Make sure when you get the Buckeye stator that you seal both the inside and outside of the block that the 3 phase wires come through the case. I have had 2 Buckeye stators that seeped through where the wires pulled through the block. I used RTV and it's way easier to do when it's virgin and has no oil on it...
