    DZ! I have an 88 VR and I suffered the same problem. Dingy alerted me to Snaggle's modification. I chose to buy a new starter from Dennis Kirk that was a 4 brush; just was simpler for me to do that than try to rebuild the old one. Anyway, once I installed the new one I've had no problem what-so-ever. You'll be surprised at how fast the starter turns after you replace it. Good Luck!

    I have a 5 pin system. That is what intriged me. I just don't know enough about the electronics on these things espessially since mine is 23 years old. I'm going to pursue this further. I've been looking for a quality INEXPENSIVE pair of headsets. THANKS!

    For those of you who have trunk bags, I love to get recommendations. Thinking about a long trip and figure we. might need more storage. Looking for easy mount/dismount, rainproof and of course spacious.

    The best half and I put 200 miles on last night and I rode fairly agressively. I got 45 miles per gallon two up and 70 mph. Our bike has the Ignitech TCI with the MAP sensor file in it as posted by dingy.

    Dingy- Thanks for taking the time to guide me on the phone with some of these settings! The bike runs great and even wheelied it. Unbelieveable! Do you or anyone else have any data on a failure rate of these ignatek TCI's?

    I have an 88 VR. Last year the TCI nuked and I replaced it with the ignition from Checkloslovakia. Road for quite a while this spring now I'm having trouble with hot starts. Bike starts first time but won't start after being ridden for awhile. Will turn over once or twice then the starter disengages. Leave it set for an hour and come back to it and it will start. I don't know whats going on but the battery is good and when running charges at 12 volts. Anyone have any ideas?

    Took the bike on a 300 mile this past holiday weekend. Both of us were on the bike the entire weekend. Using the Ignitech TCI with the MAP sensor but using the plug and play settings we got 35 to 38 miles per gallon. Better than what I got before. The performance was excellent as well. Acceleration was superb, no pings, no knocks no hesitation. I'm impressed.

    I have a 1988 VR. Is there anywhere I can buy plug and play cables for the intercom. Everything is there just need cables from the bike (driver & Passenger) and headsets. Any place sell the headsets?

    I am brand new to this forum but have been stealthing it for about a year. Decided to subscribe since the info is so great. I have a 1988 VR. Last fall the TCI nuked. I looked here for answers. Boy did I find them! I ordered the TCI from the Check Republic in April of 2011 for $225 American. Included shipping. Came with iginition, CD and lots of extra pins. Installed the ignition and map sensor in less than an hour. Decided to simply plug and play without changing to the settings for the map sensor. WOW! Did my bike wake up from its previous life. Performance is better in every way. I will be changing to the map sensor map soon. I have not checked the mileage as I've only run one tank of gas but am planning a long ride this weekend. Thank you to Venture Rider for the place and to timgray, tvking63 and everyone else for the excellent research and for taking the time to share it!
