  1. Has anyone ever seen the entire fuel gauge flash on and off, like two flashes- pause, then flash again? My bike died the other day while riding home about a mile from work with the gauge flashing. It was like someone turned the key off. No sputtering or anything, just died, with all the electrical components still on. I pulled over, turned the key off, back on, fired it up and came on home without any incident. Any thoughts? Thanks, Creole
  2. http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2012/12/24/legendary-actor-jack-klugman-dies-at-0/ LOS ANGELES – Jack Klugman, the prolific, craggy-faced character actor and regular guy who was loved by millions as the messy one in TV's "The Odd Couple" and the crime-fighting coroner in "Quincy, M.E.," died Monday, a son said. He was 90. Klugman, who lost his voice to throat cancer in the 1980s and trained himself to speak again, died with his wife at his side. "He had a great life and he enjoyed every moment of it and he would encourage others to do the same," son Adam Klugman said. Adam Klugman said he was spending Christmas with his brother, David, and their families. Their father had been convalescing for some time but had apparently died suddenly and they were not sure of the exact cause. 3. Well, my kisan chargeguard has apparently died. I've had it for 2 or 3 years with no problems on my Venture before it died. I've been installing stuff for the past 2months on Saturdays on my new to me, 05 vstrom, so I've had the bike in my Honda charger. I want an ammeter and voltmeter (digital), but I haven't seen anything out there. What do you guys use to monitor current draw/voltage? Doug
  4. News article from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel about motorcycle rider deaths in Wisconsin this year http://www.jsonline.com/business/2012-a-deadly-year-for-wisconsin-motorcycle-drivers-8h75c33-173225031.html Highlights (or low-lights may be a better term) are 102 killed so far, the 4th most since 1986; average age is 48. Speed and alcohol combine for 35% of the fatalities. In 2011, nine Wisconsin motorcyclists died when their bikes struck animals including deer, a turkey, a wolf, a horse and a cow. One rider was killed when a tree fell on him. This year, at least 11 riders have died when their bikes hit deer. There are more motorcycles on the road now compared with years ago - with 303,795 registered bikes in the state in 2011, compared with 175,486 in 2000, according to the most recent Department of Transportation data. Ride safe!

  6. well as some here know the family had to put 2 of my aunts in a home. one suffers from dementia . the other one has lung cancer. the one with lung cancer was rushed from the home a week ago with breathing problems. today she stopped breathing. they now have her on a force breathing machine. it does not look good. the tumor is now in both lungs she has maybe 20% or less capacity. and it,s still spreading. her son my cousin is her last child out of 4 she out lived three of her children. right now all we can do is wait. doctors said she wont be comming out of the hospitial. just a matter of time. robert my cousin has a verry hard choice to make. he,s going to have to say pull the machine when the time the doctors say there is nothing more to do. my sister and i have not had to do that. but my mother died in my sisters house from bone cancer. my brother died in my arms from pancreatic cancer. in his apartment. with my sister by his side. my dad died from colon cancer . 20 minutes before i reached his bed side. my uncle died from lung cancer. this damn cancer took a lot of my family. and im realy tired of it. but what can a person do? when the good lord makes a call to you to come home that,s one call you cant put on hold. or let go to voice mail. well thanks everyone sincerly james AKA oldgoat
  7. i'll try and make this short and detailed. fixin my buddys venture, a 99. died on the road to ny last fall, he put in new battery and didnt get to far before it died again. brought it to me, charged up the battery and tested the charging system. stator was 96v, ohm'd out correctly r/r tested fine all plugs appear to be fine. ignition switch was bad, did the temp fix i found here with the toggle. voltage output while running tested around 13 at idle and 14 at mid range rpm's sent him on his way, figuring the switch wasn't allowing system to charge. he rode it to work 2 days fine. third day he went to a store, came out and dead battery. jump started it and only made it 1/2 mile before it died again. last night charged the battery with a charger. this morning i checked the voltage while running again, at idle right now its 13.6 volts. i think i did a draw test right, and i'm getting 00.7 on the 200m scale with key off, i installed the new ignition switch last night. i will redo the charging system test procedure with the new switch installed. what am i missing? if everything appears to be correct? or are my charging values a wee bit low enough to eventually run the battery down while driving?
  8. Two weeks ago my 09 VSR stopped running as battery was dead, and Kreggerdoodle came and saved my wife and I. The battery was original so, it was about 3 years old. So I bought a new battery from Wally World. The bike has been working fine and seemed to be running well and I have been checking with a volt meter so seemed to be charged, because the battery was @ 13 volts. My wife and I went from Katy to Lexington, TX, yesterday about 100 miles and as we got there the battery died on us again. We made it where we needed to be, after being stranded on the road for a short time. A very nice woman gave us a ride to where our friends were @ a bar b q cook off. My buddy took me to the bike where we jumped it and I brought it over to where they were at and I charged the battery for about 4 or 5 hours on a trickle charger. We started going home and made it about 60 miles and shed died on us again. Had to call AAA and had her towed home. So my question to everyone is: Does anyone have any suggestions as to what can be draining the battery or why it won't hold a charge, or not charging. The bike is still under warranty but I am reluctant to take it to the dealer as I like to fix things myself if possible. I would really appeciate any input I can get. Thanks, Hal
  9. I have only popped in every once in awhile. It all started back in Aug when I finally got a clean bill of health from my Doc on my Bi-femurial Aorta bypass and was released to pursue all activities. My Mom calls and informs me she has stage 4 lung cancer and will not take any treatments to extend her life. I went to CA right away and got to spend the last 2 months of her life with her. She never had any pain and had great Hospice care. She passed in her sleep Oct 27. Since then there has been 6 more deaths in my family with the last being the hardest to take. My 19 yr old nephew who has lived with me for the last 6 yrs died from heart arrhythmia of unknown cause. I just returned from CA today from my 3rd trip out. Finished up with Mom's estate and put her house up for sell and had a offer in 3 days from a couple in Canada which was accepted and if all goes well will close June 7th. Then I will be ready for some riding.
  10. It's getting harder out there every day folks.
  11. We just found out that my sister in law died today in a motorcycle crash today. On her way home from work and was hit head on by a cage crossing the center line. She was from Bridgetown Nova Scotia. This is very sad news.
  12. A while back, I had an issue with the bike not running. I was pretty sure it was the fuel pump, but turned out to be bad gas and plugged filter/line. Once again, the bike died on me less than a mile after leaving the house. This time it acted like it was hitting only 2 or 3 cyls. Check the pump, good. Checked the filter, good. Drained 1 qt of fuel from tank with reserve selected, good. My conclusion is it is either something in the tank occasionally blocking the fuel flow thru the petcock or a clogged jet. This last time it died, I could start it back up and it would run very rough. After about 5 minutes, it was like nothing was wrong. Tank and a half of fuel and a can of SeaFoam, it is running well. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
  13. If anyone has a line on a decent working used TTY machine, we need one asap as our's just died (at the office) and it's a "must have" for our business.
  14. We have lost the last of our WWI vets. The man died of natural causes at 110. The other two men mentioned didn't actually serve in WWI they were still in basic when it ended. According to the article the last WWI vet from Canada died last year in Feb. Pretty interesting article. Thought some would like to read it. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110228/ap_on_re_us/us_obit_last_wwi_veteran Margaret
  15. 1st Lady: Hi, I'm Wanda! 2nd Lady: Hi, I'm Sylvia, how'd you die? Wanda: I froze to death. Sylvia: How horrible! Wanda: It wasn't too bad. After I quit shaking from the cold, I began to get warm and sleepy and finally died a peaceful death. What about you? Sylvia: I died of a massive heart ataack. I suspected that my husband was cheating, so I came home early to catch him in the act. But, instead, I found him all by himself in the den watching TV. Wanda: So what happened? Silvia: I was so sure there was another woman there that I dashed running all over the house looking. I ran up into the attic and searched, and then down into the basement. Then I went through every closet and checked under all the beds. I kept this up until I'd looked everywhere, and finally became so exhausted that I just keeled over with a heart attack and died. Wanda: Too bad you didn't look in the freezer.....We'd both still be alive today!
  16. I am having a hard time tracking down what is draining my battery. After driving at speeds aroung 70mph for about 50 miles, while sitting at a red light, the bike just died. Can anyone please help me figure out what it could possibly be. Thanks a bunch.

  21. Was starting bike for the first time and it roared right up. Was going to put it on a couple blocks so I could get a jack underneath to change tire and it flat out died. Nothing. I had taken the saddlebags off and had the wires hanging from the amp and figured I had shorted out a fuse when it died. I mean dead, nothing turns on at all. Checked the fuses and their fine. Any suggestions for my 05RSTD? God Bless. Mike
  22. In just the last 24 hours in 3 separate and unrelated incidents there have been 3 motorcycle fatalities in the Milwaukee area. one was due to a cage turning in front of the bike and the bike losing control while trying to avoid the cage, he died of head injuries with his helmet strapped to the bike. one was do to extreme speed and lose of control. Driver died immediately with traumatic amputations and passenger is critical. Last was a case where a cage found the wrecked bike and decesed rider on the side of the road, with no obvious cause of the crash. It was later determined that it was a bike deer crash. Lets all be careful out there. That is way to many hitting way to close to home.
  23. Died for me in the middle of a sentence!!!
  24. Hello my friends. Yes, I'm in Germany visiting my parents. My dad survived the last 12 month and I'm so thankful to all of your prayers and well wishes. Last Friday my parents celebrated there belated 50th wedding anyversary with 50 family members and friends. Al and I thought it would be wonderful to fly over and suprise my mom and dad. It was very emotional as you all could imagine. I had told my dad that I was a little worried to suprise him, because of his heart, he replied , even if I had died I would have died a happy man. Well, that turned on everybodies waterfaucets. :crying: However, he really ment it. I have only one more day and it's back to the US. Time sure flies when you have fun. I miss Al so much, but It is hard to leave your family behind too. Anyway, it was great to see my dad in good health again. Still a little shaky but otherwise ok. Can't wait to be back. Tally ho
