  1. Does anyone have a set of second gen stock mufflers that have not been modified, that they don't want ???? I just put a sidecar on today and the bubbs are alittle loud for the rider. When I got the bike it had bubbs on it so I don't have a set of stock muffs. ( anyone want to swap some muffs for a Radiator Grill ?? )
  2. Howdy all: I'm a whiz at putting 2 and 2 together and getting 22. So please confirm for me what seems obvious and I'm likely getting hysterically wrong. Want to replace the stock exhaust on an '08 RSTD...and after much research had just about concluded to do this with a set of RK muffs. Acquired the necessary brackets and VTwin clamp, and have a set of '03 vintage RK pipes on the way. Still a little confused about half-specific comments about punching out a plug on one of the two pipes (which one? what plug? does 'punch out' mean knock out completely or just radicaly perforate? etc). But that's not actually my main question. Have to admit that the pipes I REALLY would like to mount are a pricey bit of kit...the Vance and Hines Monster Ovals that are made for the HD Touring bikes, including the Road King. Given that these have a street price north of $550 a set, I'm reconciled to waiting a bit to fluff the bank account a bit before pursuing. Help me out here: If the stock RK pipes will fit on the RSTD... And the V&H pipes are a slip-on fitment for the RK... Does this mean that I will be able to mount these muffs on the RSTD, using the same brackets/clamps as for the OEM Harley muffs? Any special considerations (as apparently arise for mounting Screeming Chicken cans)? By the way, yes I've considered just mounting aftermarket slip-ons already configured for the Venture/RSTD, but have to say that I'm just not that jazzed about any of the makes available (Bubs, KW, 4-2-4s, etc)....But the MO's have tickled the lust button. Muchas Gracias, amigos
  3. Just finished putting Harley Muffs on my 2009 RSV. Made my brackets, bought the wide clamps, spent 4 hours gently persuading the muffs on, cleaned them, put the bags back on and started the bike. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT! Could barely tell the difference. My wife says she can tell but wants it louder. I guess now I have to drill them out. By the way, I haven't seen anything in any of the threads on this subject that discusses the fibre exhaust gasket on the RSV that you have to distroy in order to put the Harley's on. If you use 1/4" aluminum to make your brackets, you will have to get 3/4" long bolts for the muffs as the 1/2" arent long enough. Best to get these before 10:00pm. I used Drag Specialties clamps and they cost $9.50 each and are available almost anywhere. Anyway, just my thoughts on this mod. This is the best site ever!! Thanks Freebird.
  4. Not sure that I would like them but it looks like they should work pretty well. http://www.webbikeworld.com/r4/tucano-urbano-handlebar-muffs/
  5. Jrichard rolled up yesterday and spent the night after helping me but the bike back together (new tire). Even had a scary and embarrassing moment when we thought a needle injector for the grease gun snapped off while shooting some Moly 60 into the rear wheel bearings. After carefully prying off the rubber seal and poking through the bearing assembly looking for the needle we discovered that the needle didnt break off, only pushed back into the grease gun. Ok, I was the guilty party...so shoot me. But it was a relief that it didnt fall into the bearing basket. Got the wheel up, put the stock mufflers back on. The open HD muffs were beginning to drive me crazy. Took the bike for a ride and with the stock muffs it sure felt more responsive. Also dumped some star tron gas treatment in and mileage increased by 25 milles on the tank. Got up this Am and we all (J, Jean and myself) headed down to Daytona, riding A1A down to hook up with Coach and his wife from Ohio (Ron and Linda Wise) and their friends from NY, George and Jacki on a HD trike. We headed to US-1 Restaurant (formerly the Sly Fox) for some good eats and some good reminiscing then headed out for different venues. J and I headed to Main Street which was filling up. We parked and started walking down Main St when we saw an RSV. I asked who owned it and whether he was a member here and he looked at me funny and said he remembered me from when I synced his carbs. It was Mainiac. Small world. Gave a card to another RSV rider so maybe he will check out the site. We strolled around a little then J went off to parts unknown and we headed home, back up A1A. Stopped in Flagler Beack for some Working Cow ice cream and enjoyed the ocean view and perfect 80 temps. Couldnt have asked for a nicer day.....too bad, back to work tomorrow.....
  6. Should I pay the local Harley dealer 75 bucks for a new set of R/K takeoff mufflers? I don't know if the difference in sound would justify the price of the muffs. Art
  7. I know this has been discussed here before, but I picked up a new set of rk mufflers that came off of an 09 roadking. I asked the service guy if they had the cats in one or both of them. He didn't know what I was talking about, he said there is no cats in the mufflers from factory, if there was it would calif. only. I did look down through them and there is a difference between the two. So tonight I removed the stockers and just slid them on to hear them, I likely!! Anyhow with one being different than the other would exhaust flow be affected from one side to the other? One a v-twin I guess it would have the same effect as a v4 with both muffs being different. I don't want to modify these mufflers if I don't have to to balance out both sides as flow goes. At idle it does seem as though the left side is a little louder and has some more exhaust flow than the right. I'm waiting for the mounting brackets and clamps to show up to complete the install. Can anyone else tell me if the installed the mufflers with different internals, and if so did you notice any differnce other than sound? Thanks.....
  8. Ok guys here's my question, I got a stealer putting on a new warranty rear shock and got to talking about carb sync, poping and rk muffs. He's telling me I HAVE to rejet the carbs and I am looking at 300 - 350 to have it done. Pretty sure I read many post about rk muffs and NOT re jetting, so I guess I am looking for your opinions? road king muff's to rejet or not?
  9. With the increase in motor size, 88" to 96" are the HD dresser passing more gas?? I heard an 08 Street Glide with stock muffs, very impressive sound. (This post is about the MUFFLERS making more sound). My friend heard an Ultra Classic 09 and said he thought the Street Glide 08 was louder. That being said the U.C. exhaust is routed differently, probably same muffs.
