  2. Ron, What brand tach is that?
  3. Enjoy your new ride and the upcoming trip...you know where we are.
  4. Check out this thread that I started to find them.... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=60659
  5. How much are you looking to spend? There are a couple here in the classifieds, one from Kbran is a good bike. I also have an '86 that is going to be up for sale soon...
  6. Rigged, it was Rigged!!! This is sarcasm folks...
  7. Vic, I have a Triple Tree for a 1st gen at the house, I'll have to check and make sure it's complete. Shoot me a PM and we'll see what we can do for you.
  8. Personally I would take the wheels into a shop and have them install the tires and tubes. They have all the right tools to do it and if there is an issue you have some recourse. I do all mine on the Ventures, but they are all tubless so that easy.
  9. Kevin, As a rule of thumb I have always used on bleeding brake systems is do the furthest caliper from the master cylinder 1st, which on the bike will be the right front, then go to the left. This is how I was taught in school many years ago and I have used this method for better than 25 years on my vehicles
  10. Shaun, I suppose the question that needs asking is will what you can get out of your bike really help you out. It's not like your going to get huge money out of it being as old as it is. I know how I am and the times that I haven't had a bike I was miserable. I do also know about selling bikes to make ends meet, I sold my '08 because funds were getting tight and I didn't have to have a new bike payment. I also sold an '89 for the same reason as I had to pay for a bankruptsy. It's no easy answer, but one that only you can do, I wish you all the wisdom with your decision.
  11. Brett, 1st thing I will say is check all your spark plug wires to insure that all are working properly. There is a resistor in the caps that corrodes and wont give good spark. At minimum I would replace all the wires, caps and plugs as well as the fuel filter. Open all the carb bowl drain screws and flush the bowls out. I can almost guarantee that the carbs all varnished up and probably the jets are plugged with crap. Many will recommend that you drain the gas tank of all the old fuel, put new in and a full bottle of seafoam to attempt to clean the carbs out. Mind you that if a carb is completely plugged seafoam wont do much good as it needs to flow through all the passages in order to loosen the crap. I would also determine which cylinder you feel is not firing and tap on it's corrisponding carb bowl to see if you can get fuel flowing through it....others will chime in in a few
  12. Thanks Cliff
  13. Some of the members here know that Rob Wynn (aamcotrans formerly) is en route back to Virginia. He just called me outside Montgomery Alabama and is heading towards Atlanta GA on I85. If anyone in that stretch of highway has a spare chunk of floor or such that he could use for the night could you please call or text him on his cell, the # is 540 671 9330. He is house broken and and besides just being ugly, is a decent fella, we've had him here at the house several times spending the night. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help him out
  14. If you decide to rebuild the master cylinder make sure that the bore is perfect. You'll be wasting your time and efforts on a marginal cylinder. I agree with Gary buy a new one if that is in fact the issue and be done with it.
  15. Done

    Tires

Avon Venom X....type tires into the search box and grab some popcorn, you'll have several hours of Tire threads to read.
  17. When was the last oil change? All my Ventures would shift harder the closer I came to changing the oil
  18. I believe that the '83 was the only one that didn't have it. Now I could be mistaken, but I want to say that my '84 had one, hopefully a MKI guy will come on and pipe up. I have always used a tip cleaner for a cutting torch and that has worked out well.
  19. Being that the rear petal controls both the front left caliper and the rear one, you may still have air in the system. Did you bleed it up at the steering head? I usually bleed the rear caliper 1st and get it solid there, then I go to the bleeder up by the steering head and get solid fluid from there, then down to the front left caliper and the anti dive. It's not a lot of fun sometimes, I have gone through it. ou can also try to reverse bleed it by pushing fluid back through the lines and into the master cylinder. I one day spent 2 weeks bleeding brakes on a 1st gen, a vacuum bleeder is a nice thing to have too.
  20. Wow I try and be nice to you and you try and send him down here See if I try to be nice to you again
  21. You and Irene have a great time and be safe, looking forward to more pics!
  22. Mileage wise 97K equates to about 60K in US miles, which really isn't a lot of miles for these motors. I have a hard time believing there would have to be a valve job done on it. Thats not saying that a valve isn't cracked, but like FLB 79 mentioned I would check the adjustment. Lots of things can make the bike pop, AIS hoses disconnected, Y pipes cracking (which is an issue) The leakdown will give erroneous results if it's out on the shimming. Something is telling me there's a bit more to it. There are unscroupulous folks that will say whatever they can to get a meal ticket (not saying this is the case) but I would check some lesser invasive things before I even considered a valve job.
  23. I believe that it's an 8mm with a 125 thread pitch, take one out of the other side and go up to your ACE hardware and match it up, thats what I do.
