Potential buyer questions
Squidley replied to jgcable's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
John, The RSTD is a great machine and the stature is a bit shorter like you have noticed. Dont take this wrong, but whats your age and are you prone to issues with your knees? The reason I ask this is that they are a heavy bike, they take a little getting used to. If your in relatively good shape and have a decent sence of balance it shouldn't be an issue. I am caretaker of one of our members '06 TD while he's doing some work up in Joplin Missouri as he wanted it to be ridden...I was happy to oblige him. I have had 8 Ventures 4 1st gens and 4 RSV's, they take a little getting used to as the RSV is a bit top heavy, but there is a lot of electronics up in the fairing and for that fact the inner and outer fairing. I really enjoy this TD I am riding and it's easier for me to play with than my RSV's. You will probably be ok with it, just have to remember a few things like where you park and such... -
I hate to say this on this public forum, but you actually made sence with that statement...but I'm extremely confident it was a one time only thing

Gotta Chop It!
Squidley replied to metalhed87v's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
With a traditional over the carbs tank you shouldn't run into any issues as the weight of the fuel will be sufficient to push it into the bowls. Only thing that might be a kicker is when the tank is very low and doesn't have enough head weight to push the fuel with decent force. That being said you could always use a tank that has a vacuum pump on the petcock -

29 is what we use as Ventureriders for the CB channel, and I have had Venturerider stickers made that I have sold for years. I need to get that back going again and put them up in the classifieds

We had a simliar happening in Ft. Collins Co. about 5 years ago. Guy couldn't get the steering head lock to disengage on the Electra Glide he rented. I ended up taking my pocket knife and sliding the lock pin back up into the cylider so they could ride it. It was going to be an all day tow fix and whatnot from the HD dealer. We put some electrical tape over it to keep it from sliding down again and he went off to his next stop on his vacation where they would replace the assembly. It's all about being in the wind and not what your riding, a brotherhood....

Mike, If you have the hubs off your trailer take them into a trailer supply house or good autoparts store like Carquest and have them measure the ID of the hub to get the right dimention.

Dan....get soemone else to finish it, the snow will be flying before you know it. Cut your losses and get it done by someone else. Then you can take the puke to court and get some of your money back, take picks of what has been done thus far for evidence should it go that route

The tightness of the bearings from the factory. I have always disassembled the hub assemblies on the HF trailers and at a minimum regreased them witrh GOOD grease. When I reassemble the bearings I have always spun the wheel while tightening the axle nut until the wheel gets harder to spin as then I am sure that all the grease has been properly forced into the bearings. I then loosen the nuts till I can spin them by hand and tighten them back up with my fingers. I get them to a spot where I can put the cotter key or whatever type of locking device on the nut. Sometimes you might have to back it off slightly to get to that point or I may tighten it, but just slightly as I dont want to over tighten them. I have never had an issue with any of my wheel bearings besides one that was just a bad bearing and came apart on me.

Project bike
Squidley replied to lwinders's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
1st thing I do on any new to me bike is a complete tune up. Replace the plugs, wires and caps, the fuel filter also. The floats might be out of adjustment and that might not help with the running right. The airbox has to be installed with a filter in it for these things to even try and run right, put that back on and see how it reacts. It will be a work in progress, but keep asking questions, we'll get you pointed in the right direction -
Steve, Click on the classifieds link at the top of the page, click again on Member Vendors and go into their names. If you dont see what your looking for, they both only have 1 item a piece up Larry has G2 armrests and Rick has thumb nuts posted. You can go into their profile and PM them and ask whatever questions you need answered. I did the above to make sure it worked and I had no issues getting to their ads. Let me know if you need further help.

Absolutely you can, when I use my bearing buddies to grease the axle, I jack the side up and spin the wheel as I am greasing it. I wouldn't worry too much about plugging the rear zerks as they should stay in fine as long as you dont put a grease gun on them. Most of them are just a push in type with barb serrations on them and not an actual threaded one.
