1. What kind of life people are getting out of the Odyssey batteries? I've had mine a little over 5 years now and I'm wondering I if I should start thinking of replacing it. It's always on a battery tender and it's given me no indication it's going to fail but you never no.
2. I know , I know ya think I am crazy . Anyways, I got this project finished today. I now can run both Odyssey Battery's at the same time or run one at a time with my Big Perko Switch! The Odyssey in the trunk is the 680 a little larger, I also am going to put my cell charger and some other stuff to power off of the trunk battery. I can charge both at the same time or one at a time. OR run BOTH at 12 volts at the same time now. I still have to put a rubber cover over the positive side input though. I also can use it as a back-up Battery as well Anyways here are the pics. Jeff (the thing behind the Perko Switch is my AMP that I installed about 3 years ago)
3. Well, I finally made the plunge and bought a odyssey pc680 battery for the venture. Everything seems to be fine except, there is a lot of extra room in the battery box now. I did not get the one with the metal jacket so I don't know if that is the diffrents or if I got the wrong battery entirely. If anyone who has made the switch can let me know if this is normal or not it would be greatly appreciated. Best Regards Kurt
4. OK, AFTER CHECKING WITH CONDOR, I FOUND THIS WEB SITE THAT OFFERS THE #PC680 ODYSSEY DRY CELL BATTERY FOR $96.00 WITH FREE SHIPPING! THEY ALSO OFFER A KOYO BATTERY WHICH WILL ALLOW THE FIRST GENS. TO INSTALL THE BATTERY SENSOR FOR $69.00 WITH FREE SHIPPING. I WAS NOT ABLE TO FIND OUT HOW MANY OF THE #PC680 ODYSSEY BATTERIES THEY HAD BUT THEY DID HAVE THE ONE I ORDERED IN STOCK. HERE IS THE LINK TO THE EXACT PAGE AT BOHANNON BATTERY FOR THE #PC680 AND THE KOYO BATTERIES: http://www.bohannonbattery.com/html/motbat/18lbs.html I HOPE THIS HELPS ANYONE LOOKING FOR A NEW BATTERY FOR THEIR FIRST GEN. VR OR SECOND GEN. RSV. CONDOR WAS NICE ENOUGH TO SEND ME THIS LINK TO THE BYPASS OF THE BATTERY WARNING LIGHT ON THE FIRST GEN. VR SO I THOUGHT I WOULD PASS IT ON TO ANYONE WHO WOULD LIKE TO TRY THE ODYSSEY DRY CELL BATTERY BUT DON'T WANT THE WARNING LIGHT ON ALL THE TIME. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=489 RIDE SAFE, EARL.
5. As all of you interested in picking up an Odyssey battery may...or may not... know after running into problems with the supplier I decided to discontinue the latest group buy. I still wanted to use an AGM battery, so what I did is take a chance and pick one up off Ebay. It is slightly smaller than the PC680 and in some instances has a better rating. So far...so good. The battery I picked up was a Half U-1 AGM from www.Gruberpower.com I tested it during our lastest Tahoe dayride, and it didn't miss a beat. Started with power every time during the entire 13hour trip. I also let the scoot sit for a week, and just went out to start it. The motor started without any hesitation. I can't attest to battery life, but for $32 + shipping it's a steal. It's made in China, and cosmetically it looks very nice. The only drawback..if you could call it that.. was the anode posts are a little different and some thought needs to be taken to route the positive and neg cables. A little twisting and it's do-able. So, if anyone was waiting feverishly for an Odyssey, here I feel is a great alternative. Anything else you'd like to know....ask, and I'll try to answer.
6. I thought that now would be a good time to start another group buy, and called Odyssey to check on pricing, I just got off the phone with them and everythings a go, however they are out of stock on both the PC545 and the PC680, but they expect to receive a new shipment the first week of May, so the timing's right. We still need to get 10 members.... or more. PC680, PC680MJ http://www.odysseybatteries.com/battery/pc680_sm.jpg For 1stGens, the Odyssey is PC680. Your price each to your doorstep will be $110.00. Be aware that this is the non-metal jacket battery. I discussed the application at length with Odyssey , and they reiterated what they had said in the past about not needing the heavier MJ version for our 1stGens, but if anyone would like one of the PC680MJ's the price will be $121.00 to your doorstep. Also take note that the batteries will be fresh, and haven't been sitting on a dealers shelf for an extended period of time. PC545, PC545MJ http://www.odysseybatteries.com/battery/pc545_sm.jpg For 2ndGens the Odyssey is PC545. Your price each to your doorstep will be $104.00. If you'd like the PC545MJ (Metal Jacket) it will be $118.00 Payments are to be sent via Paypal to paypal@cast-aways.com Batteries will be drop shipped directly from the supplier, except for those batteries going into Canada. They'll be bluk shipped to me and then shipped from here. There will be a shipping surcharge for those batts shipped to Canada. I'll probably do the same thing as the MAC's which seemed to keep the cost down, and be agreeable with everyone. The prices work out to be Dealer cost plus $20 bucks to cover shipping and paypal charges. The last time I charged $15, but I ended up loosing about 4 bucks per battery. So this time I'm covering my rear... Canadian shipments will need to be adjusted once I get one here to do a shipping estimate. If you have any questions, or see something that's missing from the above please PM me. Jack
7. So how often do you change your battery. I got over three years out of my 84 battery. I'm going to pull it out and charge it and see what it does for holding a charge. I should have charged it this winter but didn't and now it has drained to the point of my small automatic charger won't revive it.So if I can get 3+ years out of a $50 battery will a $125 Odyssey last for 7 or 8 years? I don't mind changing it every 3 or 4 years so I might shop around checking local prices. If I can find a good battery with at least 350 CCA for a deal I might try it.
8. walked into the local "INTERSTATE BATTERY ",THIEVERYSHIP THIS MORNING ON A WHIM. asked about a gel cell battery for my '86. salesman said we don't stock them, but i can order you one for $146.00. another sales person, said "odyssey makes one for them also.".i gave them the odyssey part # and they had ONE in stock, that was "ordered by mistake." anyhow i got out the door with it for $89.00! now my question, is, do i charge it in the wet cell mode, or agm mode? help please. just jt
9. Ok,I received my Odyssey Battery and I have a Question. If I need to charge this battery in the future do I need a special battery charger? I keep reading on it and it says use a DRY CELL type battery charger? I am assuming the Odyssey is categorized as a DRY CELL Battery? Anyway any responses is greatly appreciated. Thanks,Tom
10. Tommorow morning the Odyssey order goes in... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=18052 Today's your last chance to put in your order.
11. The last time I posted this thread it was pretty short notice and although we did get 5 members to commit it just wasn't enough. But hey, we tried. I just got off the phone with Odyssey, trying to get 2008 pricing from them, and I have some good news. Odyssey agreed to hold the 2007 prices until the end of the month for us. So the prices posted below are still good until 1/31/08. We still need to get 10 members.... or more, but the timing isn't as critical this time around. Here's a cut and paste of the important info..... http://www.odysseybatteries.com/battery/pc680_sm.jpg For 1stGens the Odyssey is PC680. Your price each to your doorstep will be $99.00. Be aware that this is the non-metal jacket battery. I discussed the application at length with Odyssey , and they reiterated what they had said in the past about not needing the heavier MJ version for our 1stGens. If anyone would like one of the PC680MJ's I'm sure we could get one, but the the difference will be an extra $11.00 bucks. Also take note that the batteries will be fresh from the supplier, and haven't been sitting on a dealers shelf for an extended period of time. http://www.odysseybatteries.com/battery/pc545_sm.jpg For 2ndGens the Odyssey is PC545. Your price each to your doorstep will be $94.00. Payments are to be sent via Paypal to paypal@cast-aways.com Bateries will be drop shipped directly from Odyssey, except for those batteries going into Canada. They'll be bluk shipped to us and then shipped from here. There will be a shipping surcharge for those batts shipped to Canada. I'll probably do the same thing as the MAC's which seemed to keep the cost down, and be agreeable with everyone. The prices work out to be Dealer cost plus $15 bucks to cover shipping and paypal charges. Canadian shipment will need to be adjusted once I get one here to do a shipping estimate. If you have any questions, or see something that's missing from the above please PM me. Jack
12. We've only got a couple of days left to order Odyssey Batteries. For details.
13. For those of you who do not wish to wait for the group buy, this vendor on ebay is selling Odyssey batteries now at an even better price to your door than the group buy price. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/odyssey-battery-pc-680MJ-honda-acura-jdm-and-more_W0QQitemZ320202906989QQihZ011QQcategoryZ33574QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Note that it is the battery Odyssey recommends with the MJ designation, an upgrade over the regular pc680. Edit: After noting a few posters who speculated that this vendor might have old stock, I contacted him and he replied that he is a high volume vendor and gets new shipments in weekly, so all his batteries are factory fresh. Furthermore, he also carries the PC545 for those of you who need it. He runs the same auctions over and over again (examples linked in posts below), so do not be put off by the number available in each individual auction. The choice is yours. `
14. OK, it seems that we as a group are buying quite a few Odyssey batteries, and I thought I'd toss out this idea on doing a group buy like we've done in the past. I called the Westcoast distributor for Odyssey, and because I've bought directly from them in the past my business is already set up as a dealer even though I've only bought for personal use. They are going to have a price increase right after the first so I can't quote prices yet, but can after the first. There's no way we could put together a group order in only a couple of days. Sorry I didn't think of this sooner...??? The group buy price will be based on 10 units minimum, and any mix of the PC680MJ (1stGen) or PC545 (2ndGen) batteries. There's also a question of a possible drop ship directly from the distributor which could save a few more bucks over all. More on that later. So, is there any interest from the board?? If not, that's OK, just thought I'd ask....
15. I started a thread earlier today in the tech talk section, just to see if we could get enough interest in a group battery buy. I intended on holding off until after the 1st as the supplier was going to have a price increase and it would start to be confusing...for me at least... Anyway I've had enough interest that just maybe we can get a group together in short order. Here's the deal. Let's see if we can put a list of 10 together and beat the dead line. All the batteries will need to be paid for to my Paypal account paypal@cast-aways.com before I can order due to the cost incurred. If we don't get the 10, I'll refund your payments, and we'll start over as planned after the first. For 1stGens the Odyssey is PC680. Your price each to your doorstep will be $99.00. For 2ndGens the Odyssey is PC545. Your price each to your doorstep will be $94.00. These prices work out to be Dealer cost plus $15 bucks to cover shipping and paypal charges. So.... we have the rest of tonight (Wednesday) and tomorrow (Thursday) to put this puppy together. Due to time restrictions for Canadian members, go ahead and use the prices above, and I'll notify you later about any extra shipping charges. We're off and running, and I'll edit this post with the number of batteries. PAID BATTERY COUNT....... 5 We're half way there as of 2:00PST This is your last chance to get them before the 2008 prices kick in. And if your hesitant just because you just picked up a wet battery, these puppies will hold a charge on the shelf until your current battery croaks....which should be fairly soon....
