I did get mine yesterday. If nobody else chimes in here, I'll be able to give you better answers in a day or two. There is also a LOT of information at http://www.zumoforums.com

Well my 665 arrived yesterday. I had to leave for Evansville, IN immediately so didn't have time to check the firmware and etc. There are a LOT of things that I like about it but I did have a problem with it shutting down from time to time. It shut down and had to be restarted 3 times before I got to Evansville about 10:00 last night. The first thing I did when I got to the hotel was to use the Webupdater software to update the firmware. From all that I've heard, that should pretty much take care of the problem with it shutting down. So, if that issue is resolved, I think I'm going to be very happy with this unit. The only other thing that I'm not sure of yet is that the XM volume seems to lower than on the 550. If it's an issue then it's something else that I think could be corrected with a Firmware update but I'm not even sure yet that it's a problem. Just a couple of things that I really like after this first test. Lane guidance. This was the biggest reason that I wanted to upgrade. Since losing the site in my right eye, lane changes to the right take a little longer. I use the GPS in my work car a lot and in the larger cities, I sometimes don't know if my exit is going to be to the right or left until I'm almost upon it. Then I have to get over pretty quickly to make my exit and that is hard when you can't see to your right. The lane guidance feature gives me all the time I need to get in the correct lane. Clock. It automatically changes to the correct time zone. On the 550, you had to change it manually if you wanted the correct time to show. This one changes automatically and shows your arrival time in the time zone you will be in. Slightly larger screen. Not a big deal. I felt that the 550 screen was large enough but it doesn't hurt that this one is just slightly larger. One thing that I at first though was pretty cool was the different display modes. More map, More menu, Standard. It allows you to better control how much information is shown on the main screen with the map. After playing with it though, I've decided that I like the Standard view best so it's really not a big deal. The "more map" screen would be pretty nice IF it showed the exit number and etc. like the standard menu does. One thing I don't like is that there is no audio out on the car mount. On the 550, there was an audio out on the car mount so when I removed the GPS all I had to do was remove it and stick it in my briefcase or hide it. On the 665, the only audio out is on the unit so I have to unplug the audio cable. It's not like this is a big job but I'm concerned with it wearing out the jack by plugging it in and unplugging it so often. Only time will tell if that's a valid concern.

Refreshing the dessicant
Freebird posted a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
There is an article in the First Gen Tech Library on how to dry the desiccant on your first gens. Here is the link: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=9009#post9009 I just added a little tidbit of information to that article though that I received from another member here. He reported: "I came across the mention of refreshing the desiccant for the Class and the high cost for the stuff from Yamaha, and I wanted to mention that you can get it relatively cheap from any place that sells dryer for hearing aids. It is the same stuff and you can get a whole can of it for under $10." He told me that he found it at Walgreen's. -
Need imput.....wireless provider question.

Verizon here also. I travel a lot and it is the best that I've seen. Most of my co-workers have AT&T and I often have signals when they don't. -
I personally don't think it's unsafe at all. A LOT of people run mismatched tires. I like to run them matched but have replaced a rear before and wanted a different brand than what I had but the front was still good. So I've gone ahead and bought what I wanted for the rear and ran the front until it needed changing. It has never caused me any problems at all.

I really don't know. I know that most motorcycle salvage yards try to keep the prices of very nice used parts under 50% of new price. That seems high to me at times but that's what a lot of them do.

Not to be nitpicky but I think that should say: "do not even know the Passenger is NOT back there."

That does not surprise me at all. I'm telling you all, they are a very class act. They have donated many prizes to our rallies and etc. and are as honest and nice a couple as you will ever meet. That's why I always encourage anybody that asks to shop with them when you can.

No, it's not possible at this time. Not even for me or the moderators. I'll try to take a look this week and see if I can come up with anything like that.

I've seen them in the larger sporting goods stores. Places like Dick's. Usually somewhere around the bicycle area I think.
-
Have you had any problems with the bike not wanting to start? There is a set of contacts in the ignition switch that can fail and cause the dash to do out but usually the bike won't start either. The RSV is sort of known to have switch failures though.

I can't answer your question about the weather but it will work on battery power except for the music functions.

Larry, I'm personally a big fan of the Garmin units. My 550 never had a problem of any kind. My wife has the 765 and it has been great also. About $200.00 for it and it has the audio output jack though I understand that is not important to you. I'm curious, you said that your Mio has things that you haven't seen on the Garmin. What features does it have that are missing?

I think this is the only one on this site. It is for the headsets though. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=499

Thanks. That's all I needed to know.

As I'm waiting on my 665 to be delivered on Monday, can anybody tell me if it has the remote microphone input jack like the 550 has? I have the BuddyRich cable installed to enable the phone to come through the headset and it requires the microphone input.

I ordered mine from http://www.pcnation.com/web/index.asp I've bought from them before and always had great experiences. They show the price to be $999.00 but when you place it in your shopping cart, the selling price of $852.82 is what you actually pay. It's about as good a deal as I could find, at least from a reputable seller that I was familiar with. That price does include free shipping or a special overnight shipping rate of $11.90. Mine is supposed to be here on Monday. Will be easy to install because it's just replacing the 550 that I already had mounted.

Hey...you got a BARGAIN. I'm leaving the 8GB SD card in it with about 1000 songs loaded. So, at .99 cents per download (though most are from my cd collection), that would be about $1,000.00 worth of music. Now that ONLY matters if you happen to like any of it. There is a wide range of artists on it though. Everything from Louis Armstrong, Montgomery Gentry, Brooks and Dunn to Lynyrd, Bob Seager, Neil Young to ....... well...like I say...there is a very wide range. Once CD that is loaded that you may or may not like but is very hard to come by is Poco's Blue and Gray. Out of production for many years and hard to find.

LOL...He SAID Yamaha rack and Yamaha bag. According to his profile, he rides an RSV. I have both of those items but no pictures. If somebody doesn't respond, I'll try to take some.

How many horsepower on the second generation?
Freebird replied to casabroker's topic in General Tech Talk
I don't think it's done yet. When Earl had his mishap, he realized that he wasn't going to be able to finish it in a timely manner so Pegscraper stepped up and took the project over. The bike is with Lynn now and I think is still a work in process. -
Hey folks...this is an old thread from 2008. Big Tom is handling the shirt stuff now. Don

I don't know...I chased that crazy cowboy through the mountains at Vogel a couple of years ago and he had no problem pushing it through the curves. He DOES ride that bike.

Thinking about selling my 03 RSV What do you think?
Freebird replied to Whitlow's topic in Watering Hole
I personally think that it's worth the money and somebody will be getting a very nice bike for a fair price.
