Motorcycle Recyclers...

In the upper menu bar is a link named "Links". It's a page that just seldom gets used. Any member can post a link in that section. It is the perfect place to list such salvage yards and I just created a special category right at the top of it for Salvage Yards and Used Part sources. -
Kickstand switch?

I don't think I have EVER found the best price at Bikebandit. They have a good site and it's easy to look up parts but they just don't have the greatest prices.- 10 replies

is not.....it's like air, doesn't seem that important unless you aren't getting any.

Same here...did it for 12 years. Lignite plant, two 500 MW units and a 750 MW unit. Really don't miss it much.

Looking for lower right cowling
Freebird replied to jryan's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
They are a bit hard to come by. Every once in a while, you will find one on Ebay. Also, Pinwall sometimes has a couple but I just looked and they don't have any listed right now. The good news is that the right side is usually easier to find than the left for some reason. -
I only got 24 out of 35 on the taillights. Missed most of the exotics.

Well I did find the info on the Yamaha Canada site under last years models. Here is the link: http://www.yamaha-motor.ca/products/products.php?model=2997§ion=ft&group=M#contentTop and it says: 1,294cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC, 4-valve, V-4 engine is tuned to produce class-leading power - 98hp @ 6,000 rpm and maximum torque of 89 ft-lb @ 4,750 rpm - for incomparable touring performance.
-
I think they are full of it. According to the USA website and the Canada website, the Venture is rated almost exactly the same. The only difference is that they list 97 HP on the USA site and 98 HP on the Canada site. Probably a US to Metric conversion difference. The USA site lists the RSTD exactly the same as the Venture. The Canadian site doesn't list the RSTD at all but you can bet that it's the same also. Torque on all three is listed exactly the same at the same RPMs.

One further update. I did unplug the DC power from it yesterday and the XM does work on the units battery power. So, as long as the until is in the cradle and the XM puck is connected, you would have NAV Weather even with battery power. Not exactly a portable solution with all of that but would work.

Well here is the way I feel about it. I'm on the do not call list also. I WILL tell them to NOT call me again and I also let them know that I am reporting their number. I not only tell them that but I DO follow through. I should not have to waste a minute of my time telling them that I am on the do not call list. It is their responsibility to obtain the scrubbed list. I don't get nearly as many of those calls as I used to but when I do, they get reported. I hope that everybody is reporting these telemarketers who feel that the law does not apply to them. Here is the link to do so: https://complaints.donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspx?panel=2 Now I do realize that charities, political organizations, and telephone surveyors are exempt and I think that is wrong. If I have any doubt though, they get reported.

Here is the way to handle them. NOTE: There IS some semi-racy language so don't listen if you are easily offended. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1waHJhb2wxo]YouTube- a Telemarketers nightmare[/ame]

That's the date that your current paid subscription started.

Just a couple of more answers. Yes, the radar does show you the direction the storm is traveling. It is an actual radar image that is on a loop so it does show the movement. Don't know yet about the time though. The until should work fine for bicycling or whatever. It seems to work fine on battery power EXCEPT you will not get the weather. The NavWeather is part of the XM service and only works if the XM puck is connected. The puck plugs into the mounting brackets and I'm pretty sure that it would have to be connected to the vehicles power before it would work. Actually I suppose all I need to do is unplug the power and see if the XM still works but I'm sure that it won't. I will check that today. Music from the built in MP3 player does still function on battery power so with a headset, you would have music. Not sure how long the batteries would last with navigation and music going though.

Click on UserCP and then scroll down and click on Paid Subscriptions in the left menu. I think that will show you.

I can answer that as soon as I get home this weekend. I had to leave right after my 665 arrived on Monday so haven't installed the motorcycle bracket yet. It is supposed to work though.

If you are just looking for something to play music, somebody here posted about this product some time back. Never did hear how it worked out. Also haven't found a USA seller but there is probably one somewhere. http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Car-Tape-Player-SD-Card-Cassette-Adapter-MP3-PC-/190423112067?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_AudioVideoElectronics_PortableAudio_MP3PlayerCarKits&hash=item2c561a1983

Well my 665 arrived yesterday. I had to leave for Evansville, IN immediately so didn't have time to check the firmware and etc. There are a LOT of things that I like about it but I did have a problem with it shutting down from time to time. It shut down and had to be restarted 3 times before I got to Evansville about 10:00 last night. The first thing I did when I got to the hotel was to use the Webupdater software to update the firmware. From all that I've heard, that should pretty much take care of the problem with it shutting down. So, if that issue is resolved, I think I'm going to be very happy with this unit. The only other thing that I'm not sure of yet is that the XM volume seems to lower than on the 550. If it's an issue then it's something else that I think could be corrected with a Firmware update but I'm not even sure yet that it's a problem. Just a couple of things that I really like after this first test. Lane guidance. This was the biggest reason that I wanted to upgrade. Since losing the site in my right eye, lane changes to the right take a little longer. I use the GPS in my work car a lot and in the larger cities, I sometimes don't know if my exit is going to be to the right or left until I'm almost upon it. Then I have to get over pretty quickly to make my exit and that is hard when you can't see to your right. The lane guidance feature gives me all the time I need to get in the correct lane. Clock. It automatically changes to the correct time zone. On the 550, you had to change it manually if you wanted the correct time to show. This one changes automatically and shows your arrival time in the time zone you will be in. Slightly larger screen. Not a big deal. I felt that the 550 screen was large enough but it doesn't hurt that this one is just slightly larger. One thing that I at first though was pretty cool was the different display modes. More map, More menu, Standard. It allows you to better control how much information is shown on the main screen with the map. After playing with it though, I've decided that I like the Standard view best so it's really not a big deal. The "more map" screen would be pretty nice IF it showed the exit number and etc. like the standard menu does. One thing I don't like is that there is no audio out on the car mount. On the 550, there was an audio out on the car mount so when I removed the GPS all I had to do was remove it and stick it in my briefcase or hide it. On the 665, the only audio out is on the unit so I have to unplug the audio cable. It's not like this is a big job but I'm concerned with it wearing out the jack by plugging it in and unplugging it so often. Only time will tell if that's a valid concern.

Refreshing the dessicant
Freebird posted a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
There is an article in the First Gen Tech Library on how to dry the desiccant on your first gens. Here is the link: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=9009#post9009 I just added a little tidbit of information to that article though that I received from another member here. He reported: "I came across the mention of refreshing the desiccant for the Class and the high cost for the stuff from Yamaha, and I wanted to mention that you can get it relatively cheap from any place that sells dryer for hearing aids. It is the same stuff and you can get a whole can of it for under $10." He told me that he found it at Walgreen's. -
Need imput.....wireless provider question.

Verizon here also. I travel a lot and it is the best that I've seen. Most of my co-workers have AT&T and I often have signals when they don't. -
I personally don't think it's unsafe at all. A LOT of people run mismatched tires. I like to run them matched but have replaced a rear before and wanted a different brand than what I had but the front was still good. So I've gone ahead and bought what I wanted for the rear and ran the front until it needed changing. It has never caused me any problems at all.

I really don't know. I know that most motorcycle salvage yards try to keep the prices of very nice used parts under 50% of new price. That seems high to me at times but that's what a lot of them do.
