Well, I've never climbed anything nearly that high but used to climb the smokestacks at the power plant where I worked. The highest one was 740 ft. Just a straight ladder right up the side. I would climb to the top to work on the lights. The worse time was when there were contractors there re-doing the walkway around the top and there were just single 2 x 12's laid around it to walk on at the top. They would give as you walked around the top. Of course, that was over 20 years ago. I doubt I physically do it now.

Not available for XP and I'm not about to update my operating system just to run Internet Explorer. Guess I'll stick with Firefox.

No Headlights or tail-lights
Freebird replied to krp41151's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Do you have passing lights on it? There have been MANY cases where the wires to the passing lamps get pinched when they cross over the triple tree and end up blowing the fuse. I don't remember what all is on that one fuse. -
Yea, we went through this a good while back but then I couldn't remember which way it was. If you are logged in, it adds some info to the URL that somebody else can't get to. You have to copy and paste the links when NOT logged in.

That link isn't working. Were you logged in to Ebay when you copied and pasted? I'm posting it again and I'm NOT logged in at Ebay. We'll see if it works. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Venture-Millennium-Edition-/190443834405?pt=US_motorcycles&hash=item2c57564c25

Well either he doesn't understand what you are looking for or I don't. If you go to this link, you can see that you can buy it without speakers. Then just plug your ear buds in. http://www.edsets.com/sonic_series_3g?category_id=76

I don't know if anybody offers just a hand held mic any longer. Edsets sells a system where the microphone can be included without any speakers. The mike mount has a jack to plug earbuds into.

That's exactly what the 6th wire is for. Bushtec offers an interior light option and that is what the wire is for.

Considering a 2008 Venture
Freebird replied to Joe West's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
You can get to the screws. You just open the lid and the front one is very easy to get to. The other one is not hard to get to but I don't know if you can remove it without pulling the trunk because I've never tried. It should be easy to loosen but it is put in from the top and may not clear to pull out. If not, it would be easy to just reverse it and put it in from the bottom and then you should have no problems. I agree with you about the emblems. A LOT of people remove them but I like them. There should be plenty of folks who have a set laying around though. -
Considering a 2008 Venture

You could always just remove the grab bars. Only two screws in each one. -
It's done by using the "manage attachments" feature and uploading them to the site.
-
You just have to learn how to size them. 640 x 480 is PLENTY big. Here is an example.

He said that they showed a blue one in the dealer book. That's the 2011, though I don't think it has the black. I honestly think that they are now just using up the stock of parts that they already have. I understand that's what the '93 was, just what they had left over in parts. Then it was 6 years before they introduced another Venture. I sure hope they don't wait that long this time.

K&N Yamaha. http://www.knmotorcycles.com/ They are probably one of the oldest Yamaha dealers in the nation and the owner Norm McDonald, was one of the original developers of the K&N filter. Thus the name K & N (Norm). I think that they probably are about as likely to know anything about the future Venture as anybody in the country but I'm still not 100% sure that it's not speculation. That being said, I pretty much agree with the time frame. I said before the announcement this year that there would NOT be a new Venture. My only question was if there would be one at all. I pretty much expect that there will be at least a year or two with no Venture before a new one is introduced.

Well, now that my brother in law is living in the guest house, he has done most of the mowing. When I do mow though, I just use the push mower to do a couple of laps around the pond first. I came home the other day though and he had BOTH riding mowers stuck in the edge of the pond. Now if you folks keep telling about the dumb things you have done, I'm going to eventually have to tell my oil change story again. It used to be posted in the "Embarrassing Moments" section but I think it got lost back during the big crash and I never put it back.

Looking for stock grips
Freebird replied to Vanantwerp's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Well...ALMOST. The Roadstar grips are a tad longer. I don't remember exactly how much but they have to be trimmed a bit. -
When I get ready to put it all together, I'll see what I can come up with.

Looking for stock grips
Freebird replied to Vanantwerp's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Well, like I said, I don't think that Yamaha offers the ones that I have any longer but they have been on my bike for about 10 years and still look about as good as new. -
Looking for stock grips
Freebird replied to Vanantwerp's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have the foam grips also and love them. I tried a set of the KuryAkyn grips for one trip and that was enough for me. Yamaha used to sell foam grips for the RoadStar but I think they discontinued them. That is what I have on mine. -
Maybe...but some folks wouldn't have enough room besides their names for the number of them that they would get.

I did the kickstand once myself. After a hard day of about 450 miles in steady rain, I was tired, wet, hungry and ready to call it a day. My wife and I pulled in to get gas just before getting to a hotel for the night. I pulled up to the pump and she got off. I then got off and started following her into the store. I heard a crash and looked around to see my bike laying on it's side. How DARE that woman not put the kickstand down when we stopped.
