1. Bonnie & I would like to Wish Everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy & Health New Year From Wisconsin.
2. I need a little info ASAP. As above, has 6500KM (4038 miles) in as new condition. The owner has no idea if it has CB or Intercom. Owner never rode two up and never had a head set. Serious health problems reason for selling. I don't care about CB, but do want intercom. Was intercom standard equipment in 2007? I want to purchase this evening. Don't come along like this very often. Robby
3. For those of you that know Rick and Shirley please keep them in your thoughts, Shirley's Sister(I believe) is not of good health and things are not promising for her. Please keep the family in your thoughts over the coming days.
4. I haven't been on much lately. Lots of things going on. Bad thing is the MM may have to go on the market. Not sure yet. I'm gonna hang on to it as long as possible but it's just another of the same old stories that I've read about on this forum so many times. Health issues and hard times have landed in Southeast Missouri. I'll keep you guys posted. Sincerely, Ken aka slick97spirit
5. I failed a Health and Safety course at work today. One of the questions was: "In the event of a fire, what steps would you take?" "Friggin big ones" was apparently the wrong answer.
6. Just to let my VR family and friends know that my dad passed on today, the 16th anniversary of my mothers death. I was honoured to be able to have one last father's day with him yesterday and even though he wasn't awake I gave him a shave and I think he knew I was there. Dad has been in failing health for the last few months and although we knew his time was near, it doesn't make it any easier. He was 91 years old and he lived a long and full life.
7. Does it cost to advertise a bike on this site? I haven't been active in the last year do to health problems.
8. Hi, I purchased a Battery Bug from Argus Analyzer and I wrote them an email yesterday with a question concerning my Battery Bug that I installed on my 04 RSV. Here is Jim's response. He responded within 24 hours of my initial question and the article he attached is that written by Stu Oltman, the editor of Wing World Magazine. I just had to share that with the good folks on the forum here. His timely response and the article he sent me answered all my questions and alleviated any of my worry or anxiety about the operation of the Bug. All in all I think they are great folks to deal with. I don't know how to attach a word doc or I would put it in here. I don't have a date for the month the evaluation was written up in Wing Word Magazine but I know Stu and he wrote an excellent review. Chris in Red Deer, Alberta Chris - Remember the ‘Bug is showing “Cranking Health” not the “Battery Life”. Think of Cranking Health as the battery’s ability to do its job of starting the engine. There are many factors affecting that ability. Chiefly - the SIZE of the battery. A tiny battery and a HUGE engine will give a low Cranking Health % even when the battery is new - because the battery will have a hard time cranking that engine. In addition – cold temperatures will affect cranking health in a negative way. Cold temps make it harder to crank the engine both because the battery is cold AND the engine oil is cold an sluggish. Remember also that the %-age on the display ONLY goes down. It is displaying the WORST start and therefore the number will never go up again. Expect the % cranking health displayed to steady itself after a few weeks, then slowly descend over time. Attached is an article that you might find interesting as well. Please let me know if you have more questions! Jim Argus Analyzers 401-965-4569
9. Subject: Health care solution If you can't afford a doctor, go to an airport - you'll get a free x-ray and a breast exam, and if you mention Al Qaeda, you'll get a free colonoscopy. 10. This is a MUST watch !!! What you think you see is NOT what you actually get! Serious health watch!. http://naturalnews.tv/v.asp?v=7EC06D27B1A945BE85E7DA8483025962
11. Ten Thoughts to Ponder Number 10 Life is sexually transmitted. Number 9 Good health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die. Number 8 Men have two emotions: Hungry and Horny. If you see him without an erection, make him a sandwich . Number 7 Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day. Teach a person to use the Internet and they won't bother you for weeks. Number 6 Some people are like a Slinky----not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you shove them down the stairs. Number 5 Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals, dying of nothing. Number 4 All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism. Number 3 Why does a slight tax increase cost you $800.00, and a substantial tax cut saves you $30.00? Number 2 In the 60's, people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird and people take Prozac to make it normal. And The Number 1 Thought Life is like a jar of Jalapeno peppers--what you do today, might burn your ass tomorrow. - - - and as someone recently said to me: "Don't worry about old age -- it doesn't last long."
12. I am a numbers guy, so I find this way of showing stats so amazing. They show health and income numbers for all countries over the last 200 years and actually made it show something that we can understand easily. http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/2010/12/200_years_in_4_minutes.php/ Brian PS PLEASE dont let this get political, i only put the link here because I thought it was neat.
13. Need info about TRICARE health insurance. Yep that's right turning 60 I'm being issued a military retired blue card, the best part it comes with pay (reservist and national guard have to wait until there 60) Not sure about the health insurance plans. 14. I still get a monthly sailing news ezine that let me know what's going on in my other lifetime. They just posted this story. I thought it was noteworthy considering the present situation here in the US. Please don't let this thread spin off into anything political. It's just to show there's another side out there and worth a little conversation. Health and Dental Care While Cruising September 20, 2010 – Central America How to pay for health care is a huge concern for everyone, cruisers included. There is some good news, however. Once you leave the United States, health care costs plummet. Secondly, in places like Mexico, there are very low cost health insurance options. When Terry and Jonesy Morris of the Chula Vista-based Gulfstar Sailmaster 50 Niki Wiki decided to quit their jobs, sell their house, furniture and car, and get rid of everything else in order to start living, they couldn't afford health care because of a series of pre-existing conditions. Faced with the choice of either going to work for a big company so they could get on a group policy and not being able to cruise, or self-insuring so they could "go out and live," they decided on the latter. They've been having a great time cruising Mexico and Central America in the four years since they did the '06 Ha-Ha, but then Terry needed to have emergency laparoscopic surgery to remove her gall bladder while they were spending the summer up the Rio Dulce. Here's her concise report: "The total cost was $5,000 U.S. That included three nights and four days in the upscale and modern university hospital in Guatemala City. This cost included the surgeon, anesthesiologist, and primary care doctor fees, as well as all tests, medications, and follow-up care. It was one of my best hospital experiences, and I’ve had six other surgeries, all of them in the United States." Cruisers in Mexico find the quality of medical care south of the border to be just as good, if not better, than in the U.S., and the costs substantially lower. © 2010 Henry Kaiser In case anybody thinks all health care outside of the United States is substandard, let's repeat her last sentence: "It was one of my best hospital experiences, and I’ve had six other surgeries, all of them in the United States." "So far, we have been quite happy with the medical and dental services we've received," continues Terry. "Jonesy, my husband, had an urgent and extensive root canal and crown procedure in El Salvador. It was done by an endodontist who was trained in the States. The total cost for the two dentists, plus the crown, was $350. In addition, we have had routine dental cleanings and check-ups for between $25 to $40, and filling repairs for $25 — all by English-speaking dentists. A walk-in, same-day mammogram at a private hospital was $35, with the typed radiologist report and films available for pick-up the next day. Routine blood-work is done inexpensively on demand at laboratories." To add a little perspective on the situation, a Sausalito sailor we know had the same surgery a couple years ago at Marin General. The total amount billed to the insurance company? $80,000! And that didn't include any overnight stays — he was forced to check out six hours after the surgery — or follow-up care. Let's see, there are no signs that the U.S. job market is going to improve anytime soon, used sailboats are selling for all-time low prices, the cost of pleasure cruising south of the border is well under what's considered poverty level in the United States, and health insurance and health care south of the U.S. is both good and reasonable. For some people, deciding to opt out of what for too many has become the 'new normal' in the United States in search of a better quality of life might not be such a bad idea.
15. No, it's not me. I hope I never have to do this. My Dad has too many health problems, and he just can't ride safely anymore, so I have posted his Hardley Road King in the classifieds. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php/product/2672 PM me if interested.
16. Got out hospital last night because health care nurse was supposed to come over this morning and change dressing and teach me how to give myself shots. Found out I'm a full blown diabetic while I was in there. Well she finally called me around 1:00 today and asked me if I had everything for her to come out. I told her I was told she would have it. She told me I needed to have "all that crap" before she got there tonight at 8:00pm. So I quit taking my pain pills so they would where off, so I could drive to the RX and get all the "crap" I needed. Not supposed to drive but need shots and dressing changed. All these Michigan Women getting paid by Obama to go to school and do this stuff has HUGE attitudes. In the Hospital they would bring meals and set the tray against the wall and leave. I was strapped in a bed so I couldn't move so I couldn't move to get tray and eat. WASN'T THEIR JOB. So they would come get the FULL tray and leave. Nights was Ok they were real nurses and would help without asking but during the day it's full of people that have to work to get their F.I.A. checks but do not want to be there. Do I sound pi$$ed, YES. Doctors and RN's coming in and telling you what they need to do and the helpers leave you laying in your own blood and drainage for two days. THEN the infectious disease doctor coming in and lecturing you on keeping clean. Yes by all means let the goverment FIX health care. Oh that $1290.00 brace that took 1 1/2 months to get? They took one look and said thats not the right type and will not work. Now Physical therpy tried for over an hour and the brace would not work. They called a different company, the guy came in, measured, was back in the morning with the perfect brace. Of course medicade only pays for one brace every 5 years. Calling medicade in morning telling them about other brace and if other company won't give me my $389.00 co-pay back then a court we are a going. On the bright side I'm still alive, my balls a swollen up so big (they don't know why) I can't set on the crapper without pissing everywhere in the process. Now I'm going to take a hand full of Vicodin 750's and check out for awhile. Sorry for any discrepancy with my language or political connotations but I think health care was better when people were there because they wanted to be there instead of having to be there to get a government check. Skydoc, can't wait to see you, gotta ride. Rant done, time to go to la-la land. Thanks.....Karl
17. I know it is time to pay up or get out, and I have no intentions of getting out. So, how do I pay? I need to get the dues paid before Obama Care has all my financial records and dis-allows my deduction for VR as "mental health" care.:whistling: Just the idea for the cassette gauges and Ponch's great kit was worth five years dues.
18. I know. I said that word but need some advice on this. If I retire I get a Medicaid Card or whatever it is from Social Security. Problem is Warden is 12 yrs younger than I am. It is going to cost me $537.00 a month to keep my health Insurance. It is very good insurance. I have to keep it on me and her to be able to keep it into retirement. I just need to cover her. Does this sound as high as I think it does?? I know people are paying a lot more I just don't have any idea how to shop for something like this. Getting rid of the Warden is NOT A OPTION!!!
19. The Perfect Solution to Senior Health Care While discussing the upcoming Universal Health Care Program with my sister-in-law the other day, I think we have found the solution. I am sure you have heard the ideas that if you're a senior you need to suck it up and give up the idea that you need any health care. A new hip? Unheard of. We simply can't afford to take care of you anymore. You don't need any medications for your high blood pressure, diabetes, heart problems, etc. Let’s take care of the young people. After all, they will be ruling the world very soon. So here is the solution. When you turn 70, you get a gun and 4 bullets. You are allowed to shoot 2 senators and 2 representatives. Of course, you will be sent to prison where you will get 3 meals a day, a roof over your head and all the health care you need!!! New teeth, great!!! Need glasses, no problem. New hip, knee, kidney, lung, heart? Well bring it on. And who will be paying for all of this. The same government that just told you that you are too old for health care. And, since you are a prisoner, you don't have to pay any income tax. I think we have a Perfect Solution!!!
20. I submitted paperwork today to try to get on VA health & medical coverage. Since the eligibility is being relaxed (slightly) and our income is down from last year, the Rep. thinks there is a good shot of my getting on the system based on the numbers. The question that neither the rep. nor the patient advocate I spoke with could answer was this: If I'm able to qualify and get on the VA system now, what happens if our income goes back up (especially if it goes up a lot)? Will the VA disqualify me from the system...ie.. will they kick me out because of it?????? They said they had never heard of it ever happening and didn't believe that they would. I said I sure would like to see that in writing some where! I know that the co-pays would change and I would gladly pay them, as long as I can still be covered. My problem is I need absolute confirmation that would be the case. I could not give up my existing (expensive) health insurance coverage otherwise; Once I get off of it there won't be any getting back on and I have to have coverage. I'm still a couple of years out for social security (assuming it's still there, when I get there) So, my Venturerider friends, if you know with some level of certainty, the answer, please let me know. If you know a reg. reference I can go to and look it up, that would be good, too! I've been looking, but no joy as yet. Thanks for any assist or info.

22. Hey folks - just wanted to let ya'll know what has gone on in my personal life in the last couple of years. I had 5 heart attacks in 2002 even though I was in excellent shape, owner of a fitness center, a double-certified personal trainer, ate healthy, and walked and exercised every day. Doctors said it was a heredity thing - "You can't choose your Mama & Daddy". I had to have a pacemaker and stent. Anyways, my health went into a total downward spiral from that point on. I was put on 11 different medications and told that I could not do any exercising or weight training. I had absolutely no energy and couldn't even walk the treadmill for exercise. In the next 2 years or so, I gained over 160 lbs., became pre-diabetic, developed sleep apnea, developed congestive heart failure, severe edema and swelling in my feet and legs (couldn't even get my shoes on some days), and developed several other medical probelms assoiciated with the weight gain. It just kept getting worse by the month, no matter what I did or what the Dr.'s tried - diets, medication, etc. :confused24:The Dr.'s told me that I needed to consider having gastric bypass surgery because it was probably my last resort if I hoped to live more than another 2 years or so. Additionally, I was told that with my heart history and other problems, and family heart history, the risks were greater for me if I did decide to have the surgery. Pretty heavy stuff (no pun intended) to hear from your medical experts.http://www.kawasakimotorcycle.org/forum/images/smilies/frown.gif After some very serious soul searching, discussing the situation with my wife, and many sleepless nights, I decided to have the surgery in order to try to improve the length and quality of my life. I researched bariatric surgery and surgeons like crazy and found a great bariatric surgeon, Dr. William Richards and staff, at Vanderbilt. I had the surgery on 4/28/08 and came through it great. I have since lost over 135 lbs. and feel like a new man. Because of the weight loss, I am no longer pre-diabetic, no longer have sleep apnea, no longer have congestive heart failure, no more edema, my cholestrol is great, and no loner have to take the medications, other than a daily cholesterol pill. My energy level is getting better with each passing day. The weight loss has improved my heart health tremendously according to my cardiologist. I am also now able to walk the treadmill and weight train again, but still have to light to moderate weights. Although it is a MAJOR life-long commitment and hasn't been without some major changes, I honestly know it has been a life saver for me. All in all things are really much better for me now and are getting even better by the month! I am now back to exercising and weight training daily. Riding is so much more comfortable and enjoyable now too! Now that my health is improving, I hope to be able to be a more active here, and maybe even be able to make some of the rides and "Meet & Eat" events (even though I don't eat much anymore!!) I have had the pleasure of meeting a few of the members here - Eck, John Gambling, and a couple of others - and all have been super nice folks. Hopefully I will be able to meet a lot more now! Anyways, thanks for taking the time to read this, and RIDE SAFE! Me - Christmas 2007 - 386 lbs. http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e82/BamaVulcan04/100_1153Medium.jpg Me - Aug. 13, 2008 - 250 lbs. and still losing! http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e82/BamaVulcan04/Bob_R__2_-_8-13-08_Medium.jpg BamaBob
23. For what it's worth, I have recent first hand experience on how good my insurance was. By the way, I pay about $1000 a year for full coverage with $1000 deductible which I always thought was outrageous until I had to use it. So far I have had no out of pocket expenses that have not been covered by my insurance company. My hospital bill for 1 month in Akron Ohio was well over $300,000.00. This was totally covered through my out of province health care insurance which is separate from my bike insurance. The next two months in Canadian hospitals were covered through our provincial health plan. All of my rehab, including house keeping, snow removal, special bath room equipment etc. has been covered on the bike insurance. Leslie's funeral costs ($15K+) were covered through a combination of bike insurance and life insurance. I have not settled on the bike itself but from talks I've had with the adjuster, it sounds like the pay out on the bike will be fare. My point to all this is, make sure you have enough coverage. I had expenses for things I never even thought of, like $10,000 for a life flight. Also make sure your will and power of attorney for financial and medical are up to date. And make sure your executor and/or the person who has your power of attorney know your wishes and where your papers are kept. We all complain about the cost of insurance and we all look for the cheapest rate. All I'm saying is sometimes you get what you pay for. Think about it.
24. Assuming that I continue to get better, I plan to take the family to the company resort in Wisconsin next week. I think we will leave on Saturday and not return until the next Saturday. Spend some leisure time and rest up a bit. I will have Internet service there so will be checking in from time to time but let me take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy new year. I hope that 2008 will be one of good health and prosperity for all of you.
25. anybody know what is the new requirement for crossing into the USA. my daughter is 17 and has no passport. she has birth cert and picture health card, is that enough ID for attempting to cross into USA for the weekend? cheers, Scott
