  1. When bleeding the brakes, you should do the rear brake first and then the left front and then bleed the portioning assemble that is located at the top of the triple tree. You will need to remove the false tank cover and you should see another bleeder up near the triple tree and you will need to bleed this one with the rear brake pedal. This is the high point for the linked brake system. You could have other issues but try bleeding them this was and see if it helps with the linked brakes. Good Luck and enjoy the bike. Rick F.
  2. I thought I would add to this post with my experience with replacing the plastic fitting in the carbs with some brass #6S washers. I measured the plastic fitting to be 2.6mm on my carbs. I ended up using 3 of the #6S brass washers and each one ended up being .6mm thick. With 3 of them I was at 1.8mm. I did this to all 4 carbs and was able to get my mileage up from 36-38 to 46MPG. Engine runs strong and seems to be responsive also. I did replace the diaphrams with the new ones. I have driven roughly 500 miles and mileage is stay stable at 46mpg and speed have been averaging around 60mph. I havent pulled the plugs yet but plan on that at about 1000 miles and will let you know what I find. Thanks to everyone for suppling information about this as I am sure it wasnt something I would have tried on my own. Rick F.

  5. Just a note on this. If you are measuring the new oil level, you need to compress the forks when you take you measurement. I just got mine installed and I ended up trying it with out the PVC spacer to see how it is. Unfortunately I havent got it back on the road just yet but should by this coming monday. Just take your time and it doesnt take long at all. Good Luck. Rick F.
  6. There is a plastic washer that goes between the base of the antenna and the stud. I have found that without that, the antenna wont tighten up properly. 7. Randy, I do have mine. Let me know where to send it and I will get it in the mail sometime this week. Mine is ok with no leaks, I just replaced all my hoses with Buckeyes steel braided hoses due to the age of mine. They are off a 89 VR and look original. Rick F.
  8. I believe I have one as I just replaced mine with steel braided hoses. I will make sure I havent thrown it away but I am sure it is just sitting in the drain pan right now. You can have it for just shipping cost as I was just going to toss it. It is off a 89 so it is 20 years old but it wasnt leaking. Let me know. Rick F.

  13. Just wondering how this has worked for the people that did this earlier this year. I am getting ready to replace the diaphragms on mine and am looking to lean it out a bit as the muffler tips are sooty and mileage is in the 37mpg range. I plan on installing new plugs and checking them regularly too. Just looking for some feed back on this is all. Thanks Rick F.
  14. If you didnt win them, it appears Sirius will have more in stock this week. Rick F.
  15. Basically like changing out a rear tire but then remove the A-arms from the swing arm and then you should be able to remove the shock. It would also be a good time to grease all the pivot joints on the swing arm and the A-arms as the first time I took mine off, the joints hadnt been grease since new and nothing would move freely. I took the opportunity to install the grease zerks and now I can grease it whenever I want. I would think it would take about 3 to 4 hours to remove. Good Luck and let us know how it goes.. Rick F.
  16. The part number is 420-1014 and here is a website with the price and such.. https://www.jcmotors.com/ps-14380-8-progressive-suspension-420-series-shock-absorber-for-yamaha-venture-83-88-venture-royale-.aspx Not a cheap item by any means. Good Luck Rick F.
  17. Welcome to the group FieldDoc. I think you will find that after getting your bike fixed up, you will be happy with it. Let us know what question you have and we will do our best to answer them for you. Some of us might have parts you can use also. And once the roads clear up, we will have to plan a local ride in the area also. Hang in there, Rick F.
  18. Get some Seafoam and put some in the gas tank. You could also have bad gas from sitting in storage over the winter. I also store my gas engines with Seafoam in the gas and havent had any issue getting them to restart when I needed them. Seafoam will also clean out some of the gunk in the carbs and is recommended by alot of people here on the site. You should be able to find it in some of the better auto parts stores. Rick F.
  19. Pull the plugs and look at them and see how they look. My guess is that you are running way rich and they will be black or even wet. I would double check your choke cable and make sure there is some play in it as you dont want it too tight. Starting without the choke might indicate this as the issue. Mostly it will be trial and error to find something like this. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Rick F.
  20. Here is an Ebay item that I am planning on bidding on http://desc.shop.ebay.com/items/__Yamaha-Venture?LH_TitleDesc=1&_nkw=%22Yamaha%20Venture%22&_trkparms=66%253A2%257C65%253A1%257C39%253A1&_dmpt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&_sop=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_pgn=2#item360141365917 This is a binder with the Ventureline accessories in it. I was thinking I would get it and scan all the information in it to a set of PDF files and post them here in the forum for everyone to be able to access so they can use for their needs. Let me know if you think it is a good idea or not. Thanks Rick F.
