  1. when you go to Wright Patterson, try to arrive early as some of the display have been moved to another hanger and it takes a shuttle to go there and it fills up fast I was told. This hanger is where the XB70 is stored at I was told about 3 years ago. SAC museum is also great. Was there a couple of times and it is always interesting also. There is also a small museum at Ellsworth air force base outside of Rapid City, SD. They have a small collection of planes there also open to the public. Enjoy.. Rick F.
  2. Well getting up here from Washington, IL, you can always follow the Great River Road up on either side. Even with the SHO, you will find some fun roads to drive. The ABC county roads of Wisc are fun, can be narrow at times and have nice tight turns and lot of elevation changes when in the river bluffs. Check out this website. http://www.dot.wisconsin.gov/travel/scenic/maps.htm Southeast Minn also have some nice drives in the Root River Valley and there is always Minn Hwy 60 heading west off of US hwy 61 near Wabasha, Minn. Take this to US hwy 52 and then you can always head north to the cities. Between Minneapolis and St. Cloud, the Great River Road on the west side of the river will give you more scenery then US Hwy 10 will but of course if time is an issue, the I-94 to St. Cloud. Just some thoughts and have fun. Rick F. (former Ill River Rat)
  3. I just recently acquired a set of rotor covers that included the install instructions and I thought I would share that with everyone here who might need to reference it. Hope this helps. Rick F.
  4. Here is a link to a set of 1st Gen MKII armrest on ebay that was just listed and not by me. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-Venture-Royale-Passengers-Armrest-Assembly-Goldwing-Aspencade-/140684536996?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item20c173aca4 Good luck. Rick F.
  5. Here is a page out of the Ventureline with the Front Lower Fairing Trim. Item 17 Hope that helps.. Rick F.
  6. the chrome lower piece was an accessory for the Venture in the Ventureline of chrome. My buddy has one on his 89 VR and I will try to post a picture of it once I locate one. I have seen them listed in the old Ventureline catalogs but I guess not a lot of those were sold. The PO of his bike did a lot of accessorizing his bike from that catalog. Rick F.
  7. Check out this site: http://goldtouchinc.com/cosmichrome/ Or this site: http://www.freecarkits.com/chromecar.htm They are spraying the stuff on cars and motorcycles. Rick F.
  8. Has anyone tried the Evans Waterless engine coolant yet in their motorcycle. I see that Jay Leno's Garage has a short segment on the product. http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/ They do have a version for power-sports now and I am thinking of converting over this spring to it as it is billed as a lifetime coolant never needing replacement or wearing out. It also has the benefit of non-corrosive and higher boiling point then water based coolants. Here is their website.. http://www.evanscooling.com/ Thanks Rick F.
  9. The difference maybe due to different manufactures of the bulbs. As long as they both are 194s I wouldnt worry. Rick F.
  10. I would Owl, but I am also schedule to work late on Friday night and not sure what time I will get home and need to see what I need to finish around my place also. Spring or early summer would be a better time for me honestly.. Rick F.
  11. 94 is clear from Wisc border to 694. I understand there is some construction on 694 around between 35E and 35W near Snelling but shouldnt be bad. They had been doing some shoulder work on 94 past the cities but traffic moves ok during the day.. Rush hour is a whole other story of course and starts about 3pm. I would avoid 94 thur St. Paul as they are working on different sections of it all the way to downtown Minneapolis. I wouldnt go 494 as it is the south bypass and a lot longer way around the cities. If you have some more questions, ask away and I will do my best to answer them. Good Luck Rick F.
  12. Not sure if it will help or if you have them already, here is a link to the post with a link to the service manual for the 1300 Venture. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=3384 Hope that helps. Rick F.
  13. If you just replaced a regular bulb with a LED, you will need a resistor inline with the LED to create the current that is needed. LEDs operate on current more then voltage. You will need to determine the voltage you are presenting to the LED and then figure out the resistor that gives you the current that the LED needs to operate. You will need to know the current requirements for the LED to determine the correct resistor and the spec sheet for the LED will give you that value. Here is a URL to a calculator for figuring out the resistor size that might help you out. http://www.quickar.com/noqbestledcalc.htm Good Luck.. Rick F.
  14. Doc, you will need to rebuild your slave cylinder most likely. There is no connection to the engine case for the fluid to go as it uses a push rod to activate the clutch thru the case. I had the same issue on my 89 and once I rebuilt the slave cylinder as it stopped the leak. I would also recommend rebuilding the master cylinder for the clutch. Might as well do it all at one time. And if you really want to do it all, replace the hoses with steel braided ones and you will really see a difference. The old hoses start to get weak and swell when pressure is applied to them. Good Luck.. Rick F.
  15. my 89 have 42K on it. Just dont get to ride it as much as I would like. Rick F.
  16. In case you want to buy one.. check out this... http://siouxfalls.craigslist.org/mcd/2564312436.html Very limited production for the US this year.. but this dealer has one for sale.. I would love to get one for a 2nd bike but not in the budget for a while.. Rick F.
  17. I picked this up and while back and thought I would share it with everyone. It is the Motorcycle Skill Rated Map of the Black Hills. Shows all the roads and the difficulty levels of them. Rick F.
  18. We played around a little bit with the location and taken off the outshell and such but left the inside plate against the fairing with the amps still in place and was able to find the location that worked. We drilled couple of holes and was able to mount it with no issues. When I do mine I will make it a point to take some pictures of the location. Good Luck.. Rick F.
  19. I helped a buddy with his upgrade and we mounted it between the radio amp and front of the fairings. We used 12 gauge wire for the connections from the stator and the regulator and from the battery and the regulator. We also attached a ground wire from the hold down screw to the ground used by the amp on the frame. He has reported no issues and his battery is charging fulling and he is running full light bar and such with no issues. His bike is even starting better as he was having issues with that before the upgrade. Hope that helps. Rick F.
  20. Hard to say without seeing it but I know my 89 had slow crank issues. Battery cable upgrade and a Deka AGM battery seemed to fix those issues. Consider yourself lucky and go with that and when you get a chance, check out and see if you have the better cables and battery. Let us know.. Rick F.
  21. It is happening in Minnesota due to the government not agreeing on a balanced budget. All nonessential government services have been stopped, including all rest stop ran by the state, which is all of them along the interstates. They will not be reopened till the budget is passed, so anyone traveling thru Minnesota should be prepared to use other locations for rest stops. Rick F.
  22. Looking at the parts fiche, under the Handle Switch Lever heading, it is part # 18. 18 SWITCH 41V-82917-01-00 1 $60.35 $40.37 This is from PartShark.com I do not have a spare one. Hope that helps. Rick F.
  23. Thanks Mike, got it installed and it is working great. Thanks for the assistance.. Rick F.
  24. Here is another link for Beartooth highway information. http://www.beartoothhighway.com/ Looks like it was open and then closed due to blowing snow. Hope this helps. Rick F.
  25. Question on wiring in the new regulator. Did the riders that did this already, leave the factory red wire connected to the battery also but remove the factory main fuse? I see two red wires coming up from the old regulator connection and I see that they are connected together somewhere in the wiring system as I did an ohm test and have a zero ohm reading then I test them together. I am planning on running the connection from the new regulator with new wiring from it the battery directly and am thinking I need to remove the old main fuse as I will have a new 30A blade fuse as the main. And then I plan on connecting the factory red wire without the factory main fuse to the battery to supply power to the rest of the system. Thanks for the help. Rick F.
