  1. Go with the Sirius!! I did that on my 89 a few years ago and also did the needle valve shim and my mileage is in the mid 40's when I take it easy. Very easy to install and worth the effort. I had a lot of small holes in my old original set. And on a side note, if you are looking for a battery, try Mills Fleet Farm as they have the AGM batteries that are made in the USA by Deka. I was able to pull off the label on the box and it has the Deka label under it. These are some of the best batteries around and the price is right, especially when you can get them on sale. Good Luck Rick F.
  2. Received mine yesterday. It is on the list to add soon. Thanks.. Rick F.
  3. I would have them balanced with the rotors you will be running on the bike. There can be minor differences in each rotor as there are in tires. Might not be much and might not be real noticeable but they could easily affect tire life in the long term as they are a major part of the rotational mass you are trying to balance out. Just my opinion, Rick F.
  4. Sent you a Paypal for my 2.. Rick Fink
  5. Put me down for 2(two) for sure. Rick Fink
  6. put me down for a possible 2 depending on the price.. Thanks Rick F.
  7. I did a quick search and found this.. [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Silica-Gel-Desiccants-2-1-Inches/dp/B003DKQB02/ref=pd_cp_hi_1/185-2871617-1161311]Amazon.com: Silica Gel Desiccants 2-1/4 x 1 1/2 Inches - 25 Silica Gel Packets of 10 Grams Each by Dry-Packs: Home & Kitchen@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41LtvQ%2BSMtL.@@AMEPARAM@@41LtvQ%2BSMtL[/ame] I was able to gather some from new electronic equipment also as it is included in the shipping box. Try some gun shops as they might sell it also or have some to get rid of as it might be included in gun boxes also. Just a thought. Good luck.. Rick F
  8. If your front forks are not leaking I would just replace the springs and see how that goes. It is very easy to do and I believe there is an article in the 1st Gen Tech Library on how to do it. Good Luck.. Rick F.
  9. Thanks for the pictures Gary.. I was wonder about those myself. Rick F.
  10. Mine is called "The Mistress" as my wife name it as I was spending way too much fun time and spending way too much money in her words with my 89 VR then I was with her. The name has stuck ever since. Rick F.
  11. I have a 12 Ford Flex with the Ecoboost engine and enjoy it a lot. It has a bunch of get up and go when you hit the pedal and pulls strong thru all speeds. I have towed a small single axle enclosed trailer a couple of times and the engine had no problems going up hills and passing slower vehicles. I usually burn 87 octane gas in it without any issue other then some MPG drop. I have 10K on mine and would buy it again. My biggest issues is my right foot likes to push the go pedal a lot. Rick F.
  12. I have a 2 stage natural gas furnace and it sometimes doesnt light. It has no pilot light as it uses a heating element to light the gas. Mine has a circuit board and I sometimes have to turn off the power to the furnace via a switch that was installed on the side of the unit. I leave it off for a few minutes and then turn it back on and that seems to clear the system board and it relights. I also make sure the thermocouple is clean and use some emery cloth to knock the buildup off of it. I do this as that is what the repair man told me to do and it had worked for the last 15 years. I hope this helps some and make sure they get it checked out soon. Merry Christmas.. Rick F.
  13. Make sure you have the air filter on the bike as they dont run well without it. You might want to check the choke and make sure it is actually opening or closingas you move the lever. The choke is on the left side of the carbs as you sit on the bike. You will also find a PDF of the service manual in the tech section and you can download it and research it to him you with the carbs. And of course a little seafoam in the tank wont hurt either or in the little tank you test with. Good Luck and let us know how it goes.. Rick F.
  14. Found this on the Yamaha fiche.. 26H-26473-00-00 HOSE, clutch 2 Not Availablehttp://www.starmotorcycles.com/partviewer/default.aspx?ls=star#/Yamaha/XVZ12DWC_-_1989/FRONT_MASTER_CYLINDER_2/XVZ12DWC_%281989_MOTORCYCLE%29/FRONT_MASTER_CYLINDER_2_%28XVZ12DWC_-_1989%29 You might need to get a hold of Rick Butler and get his new hose kit for the whole bike. Well worth the money. Rick F.
  15. Welcome and congrats on the bike. There is only one pouch on the travel trunk and two on the fairing. The left side of the travel trunk as you are sitting on the bike has the radio/intercom controls for the passenger. So it sounds like you have the correct amount for the bike to me. Let us know if you have any other question and we will all see what we can do to answer them for you. Rick F.
  16. The rear swing arm and shock mounting point is different also. They changed between the 87 and 88 years. Rick F.
  17. Saw $3.09 here in Bloomington, MN yesterday. For some reason we seem to have the cheapest gas in Minnesota it seems. Hope to see under $3 real soon. Rick F.
  18. I would remove all the plastic and lift it without it on, just in case.. Good Luck.. Rick F.
  19. Found this out about the name... First of all, bald eagles are not bald. Some people say this bird was given the name "Bald eagle" because the lighter feathers on its head make the bird appear bald from a distance. In fact, the word "bald" comes from the old English term "balde" which originally meant white, not hairless. The bald eagle's scientific name, Haliaeetus leucocephalus, stands for: sea (halo), eagle (aeetos) and white (leukos), as in the feathers on the eagle's head. So there you have it, the bald eagle is a seabird with a white head. Hope that helps... Rick F.
  20. I also have the Markland highway boards mounted on my crash bars. I ended up turning the mounts upside down and that helped to lower the boards for my longer legs. I find them very comfortable but I am not sure if you can still get them as they came on my bike from a PO. Hope that helps, Rick F.
  21. I have a 1300 logo on the trunk rack on my 89 VR so I believe there must be some out there. Rick F.
  22. You didnt state what year bike, but the wires from the stator cover go to your regulator. There should be a connector near or on the regulator that you can disconnect and that should let you remove the cover from the bike. Just trace the wires and you should be locate the connector fairly easily. Good Luck, Rick F.
  23. Have you seen the snow stick also? Show how deep the snow has been over the winters. I dont remember just where it is other north of Houghton on the way to Copper Harbor. Enjoy the scenery up there. Rick F.
  24. Looks real nice, enjoy riding it... Rick F.
  25. The LED strip I used doesnt seem to have the ability to dim the output easily. I had thought about using one of the rows as tail light but I felt the need for more brake lights was more important. So I am looking at adding a brake light modulator such as this one. http://www.bikevis.com/motorcycle-led-brake-light-modulators.html It can be set up to have about 33% output for a running light and then full voltage for a brake light plus flash the brake light to alert others that I am slowing down. The main reason for the additional brake lights was to been seen in traffic and this brake modulator is exactly what I am looking for. Let me know if you have any questions. Rick F.
