Indian regulator/rectifier group buy
cimmer replied to Dano's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
We played around a little bit with the location and taken off the outshell and such but left the inside plate against the fairing with the amps still in place and was able to find the location that worked. We drilled couple of holes and was able to mount it with no issues. When I do mine I will make it a point to take some pictures of the location. Good Luck.. Rick F. -
Indian regulator/rectifier group buy
cimmer replied to Dano's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I helped a buddy with his upgrade and we mounted it between the radio amp and front of the fairings. We used 12 gauge wire for the connections from the stator and the regulator and from the battery and the regulator. We also attached a ground wire from the hold down screw to the ground used by the amp on the frame. He has reported no issues and his battery is charging fulling and he is running full light bar and such with no issues. His bike is even starting better as he was having issues with that before the upgrade. Hope that helps. Rick F. -
No slow crank when hot!!! WHY?
cimmer replied to Trader's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hard to say without seeing it but I know my 89 had slow crank issues. Battery cable upgrade and a Deka AGM battery seemed to fix those issues. Consider yourself lucky and go with that and when you get a chance, check out and see if you have the better cables and battery. Let us know.. Rick F. -
It is happening in Minnesota due to the government not agreeing on a balanced budget. All nonessential government services have been stopped, including all rest stop ran by the state, which is all of them along the interstates. They will not be reopened till the budget is passed, so anyone traveling thru Minnesota should be prepared to use other locations for rest stops. Rick F.

Indian regulator/rectifier group buy
cimmer replied to Dano's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Question on wiring in the new regulator. Did the riders that did this already, leave the factory red wire connected to the battery also but remove the factory main fuse? I see two red wires coming up from the old regulator connection and I see that they are connected together somewhere in the wiring system as I did an ohm test and have a zero ohm reading then I test them together. I am planning on running the connection from the new regulator with new wiring from it the battery directly and am thinking I need to remove the old main fuse as I will have a new 30A blade fuse as the main. And then I plan on connecting the factory red wire without the factory main fuse to the battery to supply power to the rest of the system. Thanks for the help. Rick F. -
Looking at the construction site and just driving thru that area, you will have no problems as they dont start construction till August. But be prepared as that area is a congested area on a good day. Just make sure you are in the fast lane, ie left lane when you cross I35W as the right lane becomes an exit only lane once you each Snelling, about a mile east of I35W. Good luck and dont hit the afternoon rush, which is about 2pm till 7 up there.. Where you headed to? Rick F.

rear lights
cimmer replied to tomfromhull's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Get some candy apple red model paint and spray the inside of the lenses. It is translucent and will make the lenses red again when the light shines through it. I had a buddy that did this to all of his lenses and you cant tell the difference in them. A lot cheaper then replacing all of them if they are not broken. Just a thought. Rick F. -
MegaMax Gel Battery
cimmer replied to BigMark7's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I was actually able to find the Deka brand of battery locally at Mills Fleet Farm under there house brand. Was checking it out and noticed a sticker was placed over something on the box and when I pulled it back to look. There was the Deka name and the paperwork in side was labeled with EPM company. So I got it for $79.00 plus they take the old battery so I dont have to worry about properly disposing of that. So anyone in the Minn/Wisc area, check out Mills Fleet Farm for a battery. Thanks Rick F. -

I also end up with a puddle under my bike each spring, but never during the riding months. I think the cold is what is causing this and over the 5 winters I have stored the bike it never has been an issue. I just add a little more coolant to the system each spring and go on my merry way. Hope that helps. Rick F. -

Here is some Jpegs of the options that Yamaha offer for the 1st gen MKII that might help you identify the accessories that you have on your VR. Good luck. Rick F.

Well I was wondering if anyone who sent in the rebate has received the MasterCard gift card back from Avon yet. Sent mine in well before the deadline and havent seen a thing from them. I even called and left message and nothing so far. I thought I would check and see if anyone has received theirs yet. And as a side note, when I called I ended up getting a hold of Mickey Thompson Tires. Guess they are associated with Avon now. Thanks Rick F.

sounds more like a ignition issue the carb. Have you replaced the spark plug wires and spark plugs recently. That would be one of the first things I would do if you havent yet. Hope that helps. Rick F.
