  1. Thank you one and all for answering questions and giving some really great advice. -Firearms....no problem -$10,000 limit....again no problem...although it would be nice to have that problem. -Blackflies.....I will have to look into a permit for them. -Great reminders about insurance, medical, credit cards and the driver's lic. -Also the extra fuel container. We will send pictures and comments about our trip and comment to the suggestions we heard here. Thanks again,
  2. Greetings, My wife and I are heading on a week long trip to the North Shore with stops in Thunder Bay then west to Kenora and then back to the USA into the headwaters of the Mississippi River. We have secured most of our lodging with friends and family, but are spending 2.5 days in Canada and have yet to nail that down. Passports updated, bike is being serviced and updated by someone I consider an expert. Currently looking for passing lamps for my 2007. I have the mount...need the lights. Any advice about this trip, roads, cash vs credit cards, what to expect at the boarder would be welcome. Thanks, LTC Steve
  3. Sorry Bob, She is already in my garage and looking pretty good there too. My 1st Gen is a little hurt, but she'll get over it.
  4. I suppose that happens more times than not. In this case however, I would say it was the other way around. The cycle as you can see by the pictures, in the original post can be easily fixed and has nothing wrong with the frame and handles like new. I think we are looking at an insurance agent who was a friend of the rider that downed it and just wrote it off as totaled, when in fact it could have been repaired. (Just a thought) Now I have to have it inspected after putting the work into it. If they feel that it is not worthy of a clean title, then so be it. They are not going to hand me a clean title in the mail. I have to get it back to at least a safe and resalable status. It is safe now, it just has a few bumps and rashes that need some healing time and TLC. Then again, I might just run the wheels off of it as others have suggested, but if I wanted to sell it, at least I could get some of my money back I put into it and have a larger market to sell to.
  5. So, MN says that I register the cycle from WI to MN and "salvage" gets entered on the new title and after repairs I take it in for an inspection-Clean Title. Thanks for all your help and advice....I love this site. If you want to see what type of damage we are talking about see the first thread on this issue. Thanks again.
  6. Here are the photos I promised. Orlin Engh was the individual that assisted on the test drive. He is also a member on this site and an experienced Venture rider and knows his way around the ins and outs of what to look for. Those that know Orlin, when he speaks of these things....you should listen. He is also my brother in law.....yah he's okay. Anyway, once you look these over let me know what you think....it's only cosmetics as Orlin said, "a little lipstick and some rouge, as she'll look pretty". Thanks for all the advice, this is a great site. Steve:cool10:
  7. Thank you for all the input and information. I will post pictures later today and see if you all feel the same way
  8. Currently looking at a 07 RSV for $4000 and has 29000 for mileage. Test drove it and it runs great. Even had a much more experienced rider and owner of several Ventures take it for a spin as well and would became jealous if I did buy it. Why so cheap? Well it has a branded title. There is strong evidence of road rash on the right side lower fairing and both grinding on lower crash bars. It also has scuff marks on the left front fairing as well-more to a brushing against something issue. I had read a thread that it doesn't take much to total out a bike these days and because a police report was filed on the accident I guess that is what happened. I have friends and relatives that are skilled in cosmetic repair and am not worried about that. However, there are many issues with the branded title. Just needed to see what you all thought. Resale seems to be the biggest issue....is that anything else I should look at be for I make the decision?
  9. A hugh thank you to the Venture Riders that attended the Cancer Schmancer Motorcycle Rally on the 9th of June. It was a great ride for a great cause. The day was excellent with the weather and the ride had something for everyone. Pictures will be forth coming. I was great to meet the other members of this group that I have only communicated by threads on this site. The comments were extremely positive about every aspect of the event. Plans for next year are being made. Thanks again to all that attended and looking forward to meeting those that will be attending next year. LTC Steve
  10. Greetings to all Riders, What: This is a reminder to all riders. On June 9th we are having the Elizabeth Melde Cancer Schmancer Benefit Rally. A 130 mile ride through some of the most beautiful country in the upper midwest. To include many miles along the Mississippi River. Ending at "LIZFEST" in La Crescent, MN where there will be live music, food and drink, and other fun activities. Riding rain or shine. Reason: To honor my daughter Elizabeth Holman-Melde, who at 25 yrs old died last April 7th of Lung Cancer. A non smoking victim of this terrible disease. Also to assist in starting a non-profit organinzation called "Living 4 Liz" to bring awareness of this disease in young people and to assist those afflicted with it. In addition, you get to enjoy the open road and fellowship of other like minded riders. Included are T-Shirt, bandanna, and lunch. Tip boards and other events are planned as well. (You can also sign up on this website's calendar to give me an idea of who's coming) Where: Starting in La Crosse, WI at Rod's Ride On Powersports and traveling 130 miles through 3 states with 3 stops and ending at La Crescent, MN. Ride starts at 10 am and should end around 3 pm. Day of event registration starts at 8:30 am. Registration/Donation: $25 pre-registration, $30 day of event. Online: Go to: elizabethmeldebenefit.com and look into events or, Send check to Steve Holman, PO Box 72, La Crescent, MN 55947, or Call Rod's Ride On Powersports at: 608-788-4514 and ask for Eric. If you can't make the ride, consider donating to our cause. Thank you, LTC Steve
  11. Okay guys, I come here during my coffee break and frustration break. I have the top bolt out, I have the bike on jack stands and all the weight off the rear shock. I cannot get the bottom bolt/pin to turn. I have liquid wrenched the entire area, short of getting the heat on it, does anyone have an idea before I get out the BFH and start swinging? Which isn't always a bad idea, but hopefully there is a better way.
  12. Thanks for all the suggestions. Since I was taking it off the parts bike, I layed it down and found them. Easy off, the nuts that is. Took awhile to get them off the rear header pipes. Also, getting the rear headers out from the bike was not easy either. Now that the puzzle is apart, need to put it together on the other bike. The collector is on already, now for the rest of the pipes. Thanks again. Steve
  13. the collector is there how far do I tear apart to get to those bolts?
  14. Okay, on my '84 Venture the last owner had a mess of an exhaust that could not allow the centerstand to be put back on because he wanted it to be "tougher" with louder sound. Blagh to that. So I have a parts bike with the original exhaust coming from a 1300, mine is 1200, I have read they are the same. The real problem is getting it off the '83 1300. I have it unbolted from the front and from the rear, but I am missing something as it seems to be suspended in the middle. I can rock it back and forth. So what am I missing that I can't see? With my luck it is something simple, I hope. Steve
