  1. well thanks to muffinman getting me a output shaft i finnally got my bike back together. seems to run pretty good but i think the cluthes are slipping a little bit so i already have my next project ready for e. that and i put in new fork seals and i'm not sure if the anti dive is working right. my front end wobble is gone but it seems like it might have sort of a hop in the front-end. went for a ride again tonight though with the air in the front on low and it seemed alot better so it might just be that i finally have the forks full of fluid and need to relearn my air settings when riding. anyhow another venture back on the road thanks to all the help here.
  2. never mind i finnally rembered were it says that in tech library area
  3. Sounds like a u-joint from a datsun B110 will replace the one in the bike but I can't find anyone who stocks it so i just wanted to double check before i order one.
  4. Well I finnally got the grease and grime of the last 20yrs off the motor and was looking at the bike to get ready to put it back in and found my fork seals that have been seeping slightly finnally gave out to. my question now is if I'm better off doing fork seals before i put the motor in or after. Not sure how much force is required to seperate them but I'm thinking having the motor in shouldn't be in the way and i can brace the bike better. any opions
  5. No second gear issue here. I have a 90 now just forgot to update my bike on here, looks like my only problem is the shaft off the pinon gear broke and i have muffinman sending me one he has on monday. i didn't have to split the case but i will have to find new gaskets for all the side covers and a new u-joint. otherwise its looking like i just might get to ride this summer after all.
  6. got it on the bench now, my currewnt theroy is that the shaft coming out of the motor broke and the nut wedged in the housing causing my rear end lockup. tommarrow i'll split the case and see what the interior motor looks like
  7. Okay since I'm laid-off now i finally have time to work on the bike. Got busy today and so far have the motor pulled out of the bike and waiting for help to put it on the work bench. bad part about being laidoff is all your help is working for money when you try and get them to help. Anyhow sofar no signs of cracks in the case but the drive shaft appears bent and the output shaft of the motor has broken off. Not sur what thi means for what i might find inside the motor but has me hopeing i can repair and not have to part out
  8. I can't say I'm quite ready to give up parts yet but keep me in mind if you can't find anything else
  9. well i still haven't had much time to work on it yet, rebuilding the baby room at the moment that's taking priority over the bike. i did finnally atleast get to pulling the drain plug for the oil tonight, no noticable metal pieces draining the oil but it sure looked pretty black for really only have run for about 4 hrs after the oil change
  10. Well i started off good, finnaly putting new valve cover gaskets on(lots of fun there),cleaning all the grease and grime from the old leaky gaskets off, and doing a fresh oil and filter change all ready for the summer. Two days later on my way home from work today bikes running great doing about 70 down the freeway in the end of rush hour traffic and i get a loud mettalic crunch and what sounds like metals bouncing down the road behind me. the rear tire starts to lock up, pull the clutch in and it coasts smooth to the shoulder in about the busiest spot on the freeway of course. out it in neutral bike idles perfect look underneath and see the last of my oil pouring onto the blacktop. got a trailer and she sits in the garge now. hopefully next week i can start looking into it, i'll be gone all weekend.my only thoughts right now are it must be in the transmission, which means pulling the motor, more fun. hopefully no crackes in the housing but a short supply of parts money with a kid on the way means i doubt i'll get it back on the road anytime soon.
  11. i really hadn't found any boards that i thought were worth mentioning, can't rember the names anyhow. Our problem began with what we thought was just a starter relay. hit the starter button and just hear the relay click. ordered a new relay and while waiting on it to show up found the starter bolts were bent, also the bike seemed to turn over it you were sitting on it in neutral, kickstand up,and the clutch in. mounted starter straight and put in the new relay. hit the starter button and a wire fried in the wiring harness from the turn signal switch to the steering colum. what we think happened is somewhere in the main harness under the seat the starter circuit shorted to the ground wire which is connected in the harness somewhere to the wire that fried. Right now its all guess work but it does explain why it acted differnt when you were sitting on it. pretty much it looks like it's gonna be a long night.
  12. anybody know a good v-star tech site, so far the ones I've found seem pretty excited to be able to change their own oil. My buddy's 1100 got some serious elec issues. I think we might have to replace the enitre main wiring harness but that sounds pretty spendy so were trying to pin out each cable. need a better wiring digram for the cables themselves.
  13. I just got my E3 rear and E2 front about three weeks ago. local bike shop had the rear in stock and only took two days to get the E2 front.
  14. still had to get the E2 for the front, but boy it's like a brand new bike now. no wobble when i take my hand off the bars and i can actually lean the bike into a corner, of course the only tread that was on the old tires was the cords showing
  15. I just finished putting new dunlop E3 tires on the bike. first time i've ever had to buy tires for a bike, boy was i surprised to see the price tags. decided to save money and take the wheels off myself and learned something. the bike doesn't like to stay on the center stand with both tires off. guess i shoulded done a little more research before pulling them both off. things were kinda hairy a couple of times in the process but were looking good now. i just need to put the saddlebags back on and take a little trip to breakin the new tires. now if the rain finnaly stops for a bit in mn i'll be happy to start stacking the miles on again
