As a retired cop this was one of my pet peeves. Whenever I made a traffic stop with someone with a trailer attached I would always walk up and stand on the safety chains to insure they were present and properly in use. My other one related to vehicles with a trailer attached was to have proper lighting and for the lights to be in use.

:rotf:I haven't been following this post very close due to other obligations but just looked back to see if it was something other than I deemed it to be (on my post of 03/31/12), and I wast correct. Glad I could help.

I have done the RK's the Bubs, and the LA Choppers. I liked the fit of the Bubs and the LA Choppers best as they are made for the RSV. The LA Choppers sound the best in my opinion. The LA Choppers are oval tipped black the tips can be rotated 180 degrees and the slash cut and can have the packing removed or repacked if necessary and rejetting was not necessary according to the guys at the shop when checked with the EGA.

Take a look at the LA Choppers I picked up a set here from ra member. I did not know they even made them but they are more economical buying new than many others.

I would do as some have mentioned, fill one with stuff, then transfer it all to the other and see which holds the most stuff. Then take them each filled with stuff on an afternoon ride and see which had the better fuel mileage as I have got a lot different mileage with different trailers. Or put a hitch under the tear ddrop and hook the American legend up behind it and pull doubles.

Its to bad that Motor Trike failed to have the vision of the viability of keeping the production of the RSV trike conversion. Congrats to Hannigan for picking up the flag and carrying it to the finish line. I like my motor trike and will continue to ride for the 2nd 100,000 miles. I like the fit and finish of the body and the rear axle ratio (more mpg's) of the Hannigan trike more! I guess it comes down to only the strongest survive and what Hannigan is doing for the Royal Star Venture is far above what Motor-Trike was willing to do.

Glad to hear you made the switch and love it. Anyone that thinks they are going to have the same mpg on 3 wheels as they did on 2 is delusional. I made the switch 10 yrs ago. At the time my car (vw diesel & toyota highlander) got better mpg than my trike. Now my highlander is equal, but not as much fun.. I only wish I had put a little more thought in the process and fabricated an auxiliary fuel tank into the conversion. Enough about me................DO NOT let the @$$hole comments and statements of, " "WHEN I GET TO OLD TO RIDE I'LL SWITCH TO A TRIKE." They do not know what they are missing in the meantime.

I have always wanted to fly "OLD GLORY" on my bike, but have heard from others stories of broken antenna mast's one after the other. Has anyone come up with a solution to this matter?

I have been running the cooper cobras for the last 3 yrs on the rear. They shed water great, more sure footed then the B.F.G's were. They replaced the B.F G's that motor trike sold with the kit. My first front tire was the Michelin Macadam M50. That was a rear tire run in reverse. It lasted 42.000 miles of rough roads including 2 round trips of the Alcan highway. It did not need replacing when I did it but the tire I now have on the front is a Michelin Commander radial rear tire running in reverse rotation with a little over 25,000 miles with no signs of wear. Inflation of 40lbs made steering a little stiff for my likes, so I bumped it up to 45lbs and that solved that problem. I now am looking for new rear wheels. I hate the steel wheels motor trike supplied. I also dont like the 4 bolt pattern. I wanted to put on the old Crager SS wheels. To me they were the original "mag wheels."

I don't want to hijack your thread, but to answer the question about the passenger, my passenger loved it when I went to a taller windshield 10 yrs ago. No more complaints of head buffetting or sore shoulders. I went with the Tulsa windshield at 1/2 the price of the F4. I just checked their web site http://www.allamericanprod.com/windshields.html#rs and the price is the same 10 trs later.

My grandson and I visited a couple of rallies this past summer. He has since asked what kind of paint was it that the custom pin strippers and mural painters used for the artwork on the bikes. He is a pretty good artist as far as using an air brush goes. I would rather he practice on my old trailer than on some ones private property, If you know, please help.

The dog is large to huge. is 5 ft.9 inches when standing on her rear feet. weighs in a little over a hundred pounds. she stands at 36 inches floor to top of her head. I need a trailer pull behind my Royal Star Venture MM edition that will accomodate the dog. She is a diabetic seizure alert dog. I have a Bushtec Turbo with the zippered hangup bag, spare tire tube and wheel, updated suspension, trailer travel cover, ice chest with cover, trailer bra, all lights l.e.d. rear light bar with peterson lights, fully carpeted inside. How much heated clothing
HGWT replied to tommycole's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have been running the heated vest, gloves, and chaps since 2000 on my 2000 MM RSV. Always use the battery tender when not riding for more than 2 days. When the wife was passenger which was most of the time everything was double meaning she had it all on too. Replaced my original battery this past summer. Not out of necessity but out of fear as it was 11 years old. I never had a problem running out of juice. I did however have a heat troller electronic thermostat on all the gear. maybe I was lucky but I did have a volt meter and never noticed a problem and I have as many lights as some people, and more than most. -
Higher mileage scaring me? Should it?
HGWT replied to paai1993's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
A 1999 to 2004 with 8 to 10K would scare me more than one with 70K miles. -
Home from trip with no OVERDRIVE
HGWT replied to vegastruckee's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Generally when what most call clutch slippage really isn't clutch slippage. It is the diaphram spring (what us old guys call the pressure plate) weakness. I have personally experienced this and on technitian advise replaced the friction plates and spacers with no success. After retaining the used friction plates and spacers replaced while on a trip to the 49th state. Once I got home and rested up I mic'd the friction plates and spacers to find them all on the very good acceptable limits for wear I replaced the diaphram spring with a "Barnetts spring and preesure plate" assembly I am at over 100,000 miles without so much as a wimper. Some guys even installed an extra yammy diaphram spring. I went with the Barnett. I should have done this first but, thats how we learn........doing it ourselves, as I am sure the techs would have changed the friction plates and spacers again if I had returned to the dealership for another dip in my wallet. Some like the "PCH" conversion some like the "Barnett". At the time I got the "Barnett" as no one else was in the market at that time. Recommendations? Get what you want.....the "PCH " is a few bucks cheaper, the Barnett has my vote as it has had no problems in my trike in over 100,000 miles since the install. -

Fuel Issue During 1st 15 minutes of Riding
HGWT replied to Bobby G's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I think you should be checking the ignition coils. I had similar problems, acted like running out of gas. I replaced fuel filters fuel lines fuel pump pet cock etc..... when it finally almost got me stranded, ignition coils all went bad. $750 later back on the road again. I wont promise this will fix yours but the symptoms are quite similar. -
Have you replace a coil on your RSV?
HGWT replied to Freebird's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I had to replace the coils on my 2000 MM this year. -
bike cutting out / missing at WOT
HGWT replied to Gary N.'s topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
My vote you need Yamaha carb cleaner to fill all carbs let it sit for 2 days full of Yamaha carb cleaner drain and drive. When sea foam doesn't fix Yamaha carb cleaner will. Best fix short of carb overhaul. -
Now you've gone and done it. I have been watching school buses for several years with those white strobes on top and thinking I wanted to put one beneath my tourpak and the trunk on my trike. The school buses run them day and night. The few times I run at night anymore the fear of night drivers scare me. I guess I'm getting old and really do want to get older.

Oh the fond memories of those 13 lettered son-of-a-b1tche$. Theres a reason theres 13 letters in their names.

Put some Sea Foam in it. That seems to fix everything else!
