  1. Still same problem...1/2 turn and zing............. Still will not start. I replaced the sprag kit but not the idler gear. It has some wear barely to the touch. FIXED!!! replaced the idler gear and does great now.
  2. Hi everyone, Just noticed the carb mount, throat thing on on the front left cyl is cracked. That would explain all the goo. What are these called? Can they be fixed? Looks like a little epoxy might do it maybe. Does anybody have any they would like to sell? Thanks!
  3. hey i have just one valve needle that isnt working anyone know where i can get just the one needle valve? edit: scratch that i fixed the old one
  4. Since I joined this forum in 2010 I have done a bunch of repairs, just following the instructions you kindly. knowledgeable, experienced guys have posted. This afternoon, in less than two hours I just fixed the Class E4 Error by following the instructions posted by Freebird back in 2006. (And I'm not that good wrencher at all, some times I prefer no to start some repairs afraid of not finished them and compromised my weekly Saturday rides with my buddies) I'm so excited I can hardly wait to tell my friends about it. (I mentioned last Saturday and one of them suggest to forget about the compressor and replace it with progressive shock springs, that what he did on his) Well, I'm so glad I did it :) Thank you so much. Rudy:cool10:
  5. Anyone here buy a '84 Venture Royale sometime around 2005 from Hacker's? Two tone gold, ran real go-o-o-o-d, heel/toe shifter and some other stuff. I think they fixed the 2nd gear problem before setting it out to sell. I know who traded it in for a V-STAR 650.
  6. wells guys just bought my first venture. been a bike fan since i was a kid and my first boss had one of these. thought it was awesome then and still do. i been getting acclimated to the site. there's lots of info on here and have to say i'm real impressed to see a group of people so willing to help each other out! thanks for letting me be a part of this. i guess i'm ready to test some of my wrenching skills to get this thing safely ready for the road.. it's got 30,000 miles on it and the paint was redone 2 years ago. visually its looking pretty good but i have a few of the gremlins that are common. i've been gleaning off the threads but i thought i'd start my own and maybe list the things i've noticed and we could work together on getting them reslolved. i was told the 2nd gear issue was resolved at the dealer already and i haven't noticed any issues. FIXED - 1. starting issues, especially when the bike is warm. gonna check out battery and charging FIXED -2. front end suspension seems off. saw oil on the brake caliper. feels uneasy in turns. it takes the bumps really hard up front, but feels okay on a smooth road FIXED - 3. the air suspension monitor seems to not be functioning. i only see "psi" on right side FIXED - 4. seems to idle a little rough, you have to choke it slightly to get it to idle at 1000-1200rpms. then idles okay part in the mail - 5. the pipe stubs on the front side of the exhaust crossover are broke on both sides. makes it pretty loud FIXED - 6. rear trunk has the small cracks around the front holding tabs, making it a little wobbly FIXED - 7. felt like the clutch was slipping when i took it out to open it up at high rpms. may have felt like an engageing issue, not sure its the fibers, maybe master cylinder? FIXED - 8. seemed like neutral was a little hard to find when the bike was hot i'm hoping to get the starting / running issues resolved and then keep working on the list. here's a pic to give you a vision http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu148/DOZER520_photos/DSCN3465.jpg http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu148/DOZER520_photos/DSCN3468.jpg
  7. Hope you made a bunch this holiday season!!!! I fixed it.
  8. We hired a Contractor to replace a Roof and siding due to Hail Damage. They did a wonderful job on the roofing but the truck that delivered the roofing left large ruts in our lot. When I mentioned this to our contractor he says that his guys are denying doing it. And that he has no idea how it happened. Of course I took pics and sent them to him stating that they are not allowed on my property again until this is fixed and if it is not fixed by Feb 1st, I am severing my contract with him. I will pay him only the remainder of what is owed for the roofing, minus what I have to pay to have the damage repaired. CAN I sever the contract for this?
  9. During our annual spring ride, my younger brother (Scott) let all the oil out of his Honda Shadow Aero 1100 in western Texas. He has been debated whether to part it out, or have it fixed. The local shop advised it would be $1500 to $1800 to fix it depending on what needs replaced/repaired. Well........ I have fooled Scott into thinking I was a decent wrench and he is having the dead bike shipped up here (from Dallas) for me to work on. Just what I need - another project. Like the 2 dead bikes in the shop aren't enough. Anyhooo, it will be fun to tear it apart knowing that if it can't be fixed, I can just buy a used engine an stick it in there. Be about $1000 to go that route. Yeah, I know, if we were to do this, it would have been easier and cost about the same to have the local shop do it. It will all be worth it to watch the expression on my wife's face when this bike is rolled off the truck and into the garage. As of this point, she knows nothing about it and thinks I spent too much time/money on the bikes already (she may have a point, but I will not acknowledge it). Anybody have a Honda Shadow 1100 engine laying around? I believe anything from 1998 to 2004 will fit. RR
  10. This is how my day is going.... Truck went to a idle and that's it.. I was on my way to the dealer to get the A/C fixed for the 5th time.... It looks great, but I can't keep it out of the shop....
  11. Put gas in the tank and fuel comes pouring out the butterfly end. Any suggestions as to what needs to be fixed?
  12. I work rotating 12hr shifts so this week I had days off and worked on the bike and trailer, The trailer needed new tires and the wiring for the lights fixed so I sweated my butt off and fixed everything took it for a test ride and everything seems to work fine. I need a sweat pad for my butt on these hot days. I am going to make a pvc grate for the bottom of the cooler so my food doesn't swim in water while I ride. I think the trailer is bigger than the bike, I am ready for my vacation.
  13. My plastic gear for the odo is worn out so it wont turn the steel shaft and the odo doesen't work What to do? Find a good used speedo at ebay or can it be fixed? I was thinking something like using a glue gun and adding material to the plastic gear and try to reshape it...
  14. I'm new on here- evidently:) So I will learn if this is the right spot to post or not... But I have a 84' Venture Royale that I have fell in love with! I bought it 3 years ago. Have started to redo the bike. Did a full body fix and new single color paint job, with alot of beautiful nature scenery airbrushing:)) Re-did the seat etc etc. I put usually 10,000km or 6000m + a year on it, and i plan on taking a COLD trip with it the end of March. It is currently at a local shop getting 2nd gear fixed:( and there is another smaller issue i need fixed- The Radio and one speaker... Does anyone have any ideas where to get a unit and speaker(s)? Things started not working the end of the season and i need the radio on longer rides. Generally this is my quoting vehicle, but I'm headed to PA to a friends soon. Any help will be appreciated- Thanks, Dwayne
  15. Anyone know how to edit a classified ad? Never mind, I finally figured it out and got it fixed!
  16. Two weeks ago before we got all of our snow I rolled my 83 xvz12 in the house to do a little maintence. I fixed some of the plastics, changed the plugs, fixed the radio and that was it. Rolled it outside and now I have an exhaust leak. I know it is on the back bank, not sure where. Cannot feel any exhaust nor can I see any carbon deposit. How hard is the exhaust to take off for inspection? ANyody ever have anything like this happpen to them? Ideas suggestions. I have a friend who is going to let me roll it in his shop and put it on a lift to work on. Thanks in advance for your help. Dr. Psycho
  17. I mentioned this in another post, but I thought I would post again and ask another way. The fairing tabs that hold the windshield are a known problem with the Venture. In fact, many of you have said that EVEN NEW VENTURES could very well have the tabs already cracked or broken. I had asked if it was important to have the fairing replaced, and a couple of you said yes, get it fixed or it would get worse. I have two issues with getting fixed...first, because I have done some wiring under the fairing I am afraid they will hassle me about the tabs and accuse me (like others have been accused) of breaking them myself. The OTHER issue I have is that I did my wiring the way I wanted it done and I don't want them messing with it. OK, so no my other point about not getting the tabs fixed...if someone owned a Venture and did NONE of their own work, and based on those statements that the tabs were of poor design and cracked on their own, isn't it possible for this breakage to go for a LONG period of time and MANY miles without knowing anything was wrong? What do you think? Wally
  18. My 07 RSMV develped leak(s) about mid point on inner portion of carbs. slow drips off of the screws that hold the "bottom plate with brass piece" on. Pretty sure its a sticking float although I didn't notice any comming out overflow tubes? Just about have carbs out. Will also check the petcock hoses and fuel pump return hoses while I'm at it. At Freebirds MD while attempting a carb tune the bike wouldn't immediately come down off of the revs. We checked air passages and all were clear. we drained carbs and filled with carb cleaner. then 1/2 can of sea foam for 2 tanks. Ran good ever since. This bike basically sat for 3 years, it's an 07 with only 482 origional miles and the owner told me he had to tap the carbs one time because they stuck. Since then Ive put 5000 miles on it... Referenced: Freebirds Removing carbs 3/21/07 V7goose Float levels 6/27/08 ? Syncing carbs 8/18/06 Only thing I need is a sync tool after I get er done? Anyone close that has one? I know, I know. I could have taken to shop and got fixed free. But would it have really ended up being fixed???????? I think not......Plus it really isn't costing me any :mo money:just my time and I like working on her.
  19. A couple of weeks ago I posted that the tabs in the fairing where the bolt go that hold the windshield in place were broken. Today Berkeley Yamaha replaced that part of the fairing. While they were in there they found some other stuff that was jacked up and fixed that too. Cost to me $0. I must say, their reputation of going above and beyond is really true. Thanks to everyone that suggested I take it back to the dealer.
  20. Dear Mr. Harper ( or Mr. Obama) , Please find below my suggestion for fixing our economy. Instead of giving billions of dollars to banks and car companies, that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan: There are about 20 million people over 50 in the work force. Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations: 1) They MUST retire. Twenty million job openings - Unemployment fixed. 2) They MUST buy a new Canadian CAR. Twenty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed. 3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed. 4) They MUST send their kids to school / college /university - Crime Rate fixed. 5) Buy $50 of alcohol / tobacco / petrol a week - There's your money back in duty / tax etc. It can't get any easier than that! Yours truly, Ordinary Joe Citizen P.S. If more money is needed, have all members of parliament pay back their falsely claimed expenses and second home allowances.
  21. I saw this on anouther forum and thought I would share because I really liked it. The shop that fixed the bike is about 30 minutes up the road. [ame=http://vimeo.com/11285536]The Norton Project on Vimeo[/ame]

  25. Any advice on where I can come up with a lower right cowling. After hitting that gator the other day, I've been riding with it cracked and it's driving me nuts. I gotta get it fixed.
