  1. How thick are new pads just put new rubber on now looking at brakes. Seems like there is some pad left to me but just making sure.
  2. I am building a little Tear Drop trailer and want to sheath the sides with aluminum .040" thick just like I did on the other one I made, so here is the question. I want to glue the aluminum to the wood sides of the body but the glue should not harden and become brittle it should stay tacky and pliable. The glue I used the last time was to thick and lump, so I was looking for alternatives. The stuff I use should be easily spreadable and lay down a thin coating. So do any of you have some suggestions on what kind of glue to use. I was thinking on using spray glue like they use on car interiors/upholstery (spray trim adhesive). From what I remember about the stuff it stays tacky and gooey and never hardens. It should hold the metal down but still allow it to move a little. Any body got any suggestion (that would be helpful)?
  3. Hi all! I'm about to get some R1 calipers and am trying to find some front rotors. Has anyone used the EBC md2096's? Also, someone had mention early vmax rotors will work. Will they work with the r1 calipers? They seem really thick too. 7.5 mmish? Several cheap sets of those floating around. Thanks everyone!
  4. The Metro Diner in Jacksonville was featured a while back on Diners, Drive-in's and Dives with Guy Fieri. We were never able to even get in as this is a breakfast/lunch only place and its fairly small. They finally opened a second place at the beach and I went there today with my wife. Man, I never knew what I was missing!! This place rocks. No wonder it made the triple D show!! The menu was fantastic. We ended up having a new item called the Vortex burger. Lets break this thing down: Take 2 grilled cheese sandwiches with thick bacon slices, very nicely grilled. Now add a 1/2 lb fresh Angus burger, more cheese and cole slaw between both sandwiches. Stack it on a plate with fresh cut and fried potato chips and I mean a stack of them, not just a few and you have a triple D worthy heart attack on a plate. I should have only ordered 1 and split it as it was I was only able to finish just under half of it. Had some more for dinner with enough left over to satisfy the dogs. I looked around at some of the other tables and all the food looked fantastic. The table next to us had a 4 piece fried chicken plate with a thick Belgian waffle under it all and topped with some type of a strawberry sauce! Amazing!! If you pass through Jax you owe it to yourself to stop at this place. Its that good!! I was thinking of having a meet and eat here sometime but the waitress said that weekends are just a total madhouse and they shut down at 3 pm. Im not sure we would be able to seat so many at once. I didnt inquire about holding any tables yet, but I may sometime in the future for a possible M&E.
  5. So I have a question for those who have installed new seals in their front forks. Have you ever found non-OEM seals to be too thick after installation ? I installed a set of Pyramid seals that came with the bike and I can not get the lock clip in. They appear to be all the way down. The bushing was tapped all the way down but the thickness of all 3 pieces on both sides appears to be 20/1000's too thick. Gonna have to take it all apart to measure, but just wondering if anybody ever found that to be an issue. Yea...I know some of you told me not to use after market seals... just seemed like an easy way to save $40.00.
  6. She's probably going to kill me for this. This morning I took her to Rochester General for a check up on her heart. They found 2 stent had collapsed. The Dr. did her Roto Rooter Thing and replaced them with 2 new supercharged stents, so she will be better then new. She is Still in the Hospital and she has her note pad with her, So please send her a little cheer. She really doesn't like this sort of thing, So lay it on good and thick.
  7. I once ask a question about riding boots and got this reply. Motorcycle riding boots that are made well should have a wide and thick sole with tall leather tops. Thick sole - to help protect from the very hot blacktop surface. Wide sole - to help stabilize you when stopped with a heavy bike. Tall leather tops - to protect you from the pipes and the motor heat. I bought a pair of Harley Davidson boots and took the copper/brass emblem off from the side of the sole and replaced the emblem with another that a friend made for me that said Yamaha. They say HD on them high on the boot but it is covered by my pants.
  8. I ride with the Patriot Guard and bought a flag pole attachment for my Rivco tow hitch. I didn't like the flag pole that was made for it (seemed a little flimsy) so I went out and bought a much sturdier steel one piece pole. The pole is too small for the receptacle. So, I found a piece of PVC that fits the pole perfectly, but it's 2/10ths of an inch too thick to fit in the receptacle. I tried using a piece of sand paper to 'slim' it down, but I can see that's gonna take a LOOOOONG time. So, I'm hoping some of you will have some ideas on how to reduce the girth of this adapter.
  9. My job last night had me getting out at 3am. At 2:30 I was outside smoking and it was clear as a bell. 3 O'clock rolled around and it looked like something out of a Stephen King Movie. It was so thick and heavy you could feel it when you were breathing. Many of the non-smoker were coughing over the moisture. Well, I had about an hour and half ride home ( with good conditions) but, I wasn't wanting to try it in the soup. So, I made a few phone calls and ended up going to one of the bartenders house. I had to ride there and it was about 7-10 miles. As I was riding I thought I could feel cold water running down my legs. I wasn't going to look down, I couldn't see anything more than 10 feet in front of me anyway. Tail lights on cars were less than useful and I knew nobody could see my little tail light. So I had the Hazards on. The water was sheeting off of the wind screen like it was drizzling. I tried to smoke one on the way... but my cigarette was too damp to burn. I drove about 30mph to get there and when I jumped off the bike, my pant legs from the knee down looked like I had been in a down pour. The fog in my head light as I sat there looked like snow suspend in midair. I have seen some nasty fog in the mountains in TN... But I ain't never seen it like this:think:
  10. I have installed the clutch up grade from PCW racing. It is supposed to be the same kit that you can now get here on VR. I bought my kit before it was available here. During the install I measured all of my plates. A new plate is 3mm (.118 inch) thick, the service manual says that 2.8mm (.110 inch) thick is worn out. All of my discs measured between .116 and .117 thick, the new full disc measured .118. After the install and putting on a few hundred miles of city driving, the clutch still locks up solid with zero slip at any throttle setting at any speed. That is the good part. The bad is, that now I still have about 1/2 inch of free play in the clutch leaver but it goes from full engage to zero engagement in the next 1/4 inch of travel. there is then about 2 inches of remaining travel that does nothing at all. This makes slow maneuvering very difficult, The friction zone is almost nonexistent. I called PCW and they have had some customers report this issue but had no answer. Any ideas as to what I messed up?
  11. Ok, I was checking out Alaska Leather last week and came across sheepskin insoles. Now my riding boots don't have insoles anymore thanks to Krome Roses Boston Terrier so I decided to give these a try. I bought a pair of each thick and thin. Well this morning I decided to test the thick pair out and rode to work without my customary electric socks, it was 34 degrees. Normally I would have my electric socks and gloves for anything under 40 degrees but this morning I just wore the gloves along with long johns, leather chaps, and a leather jacket. Without the electric socks in 34 degree temps my feet get unbearably cold within 20 minutes, and we all know that once the feet get cold the ride is no longer fun. Well with the thick sheepskin insoles my feet bordered on being TOO HOT, I actually had to put my feet on the highway pegs about 30 min into the ride. So if you are looking for a cheap alternative to electric socks I highly recommend them. As a bonus they are VERY comfortable. http://www.alaskaleather.com/onlinestore.html They are about mid way down the page. Oh yeah I got some of that Monkey Butt Powder to give it a try and I am impressed with it also. I ordered it on Tuesday and received it on Friday, can't complain about that. These folks have always done me right.
  12. Does anyone know where I may find a new seat for an 87VR ? I am a big guy and the seat is a little light. I want a big thick soft seat. Any ideas? Should I take it and have it re- upholstered? Thanks for any help!!!
  13. Finally got up the courage to cut my 5th gear dogs today. Set it up in my drill press with an adjustable angle vise. I thought this might help keep it straight and I should be able to do the back cut also by angling the vise. Need to get a new stone first, will try that tomorrow night. I just rotated the gear and vice lightly around the stone (as it was turning, of course!) following the curve of the dog. Two dogs started at .0476, the other one was .0484 dimension across the widest part of the curved faces. Cut all three down to .0466 +/- .0001. Looked pretty good, and I believe all the rounded top is gone. Did not grind the other side (deceleration side) as I could not see any rounding on them. Will also try to backcut the slots with the vise as I can duplicate the exact angle I used on the dogs. Thought it might be easier than doing "freestyle" with the Dremel tool. Here are some measurements on the old and new thrust washer and clips and the clip groove in the driven axle: Plate washer: Old 1.98mm thick 25.23mm ID 4.38mm wide (ID to OD) New 2.02mm thick 25.28mm ID 4.38mm wide Thrust clips Old 3.06mm thick 6.67mm width groove cut in by wear .85mm New 3mm thick 6.5mm width Groove on shaft where split clips go-- 3.22mm So, I guess, there is meant to be about .15-.2mm play in the groove where the split clips go? I hope it's ok, 'cause I really don't want to spend $225.00 on a new axle. Any thoughts? I can't figure out why they would make the "new" split clips thinner than the old. Couldn't see much rounding on the pressure side (outboard) of the groove in the axle. Here are some pics Hey, I work in this garage, ain't got time to keep the bench lickety split clean!!!!!
