  1. Had a similar problem when my wife was riding her own bike. She has a bum left hand and was having grabbing and controlling the clutch lever. Bought a couple of replacement levers and took then to a friend that had a welding shop. He heated the levers up and "GENTLY" bent them to what we thought would work. Found the one she liked the best and still allowed the clutch to disengage fully and we had him bend the others just the same. We always had at least one spare and the tools needed to change the lever on the bike just in case the lever broke or she dropped the bike and snapped the lever. The levers are just cast aluminum and will not take much abuse as far as heating them or knocking around after they have been heated. If they are chrome plated heating them enough to bend them will blister the chrome. Not a perfect solution but it worked just fine for her. Good Luck
  2. Some things that I just should not say in mixed company. But it would have started with something like "Hey dip stick ...... "
  3. I pulled up beside a guy riding a custom Harley yesterday, he looks over at the Venture and says "Good looking bike" , I replied thanks and before I could repay the compliment he says "Is that one of those Kawasaki-Yamahas?" Dumb founded I had to compose my self before I answered, figuring there would be this big fight right in the intersection if I said what I was thinking. I nicely said "No this is a Yamaha Royal Star Venture". The light tuned green and I got a very nice hole shot jump on him and left him in my dust wondering what just happend.
  4. Try this link I have one of heir units with the modulator to make the brake light flash and it really gets peoples attention. http://www.customdynamics.com/Yamaha_tail_retro.htm
  5. Well it is pretty well trashed. Missing a saddle bag, trunk has a large hole in it, fender is all beat up, no seat. If you are lokng for parts it would be OK , but I doubt you would be money aahead if you wanted to rebulid it. And that is just what he showing it the photos, what else is hidden in the details?
  6. When the wire harness on my 98 Royal started to get all that funky brown staining I used some flexible braided expandable tubing like in the link below. It comes in many sizes and colors, you have to be a bit careful how you cut or finish the ends so it does not unravel. You can cut it and then melt the ends with a lighter or you can cut it with a hot knife to melt the end together to keep it from unraveling. The draw back to melting the ends is that it restricts the amount the tubing will expand. I found that if you do not melt the ends you can make it expand enough to go over most of the connectors so you do not have to de-pin them to get them thru the tubing. Where there is a break out ("Y" ) in the harness you can open up a hole in the weave and bring the one leg out. When I did that I took a smaller diamiter piece of the same type of tubing over the small leg and pushed it up into the hole I made in the main harness and then secured it with a small black tyrap in a figure 8 around the "Y", rolling the "head " of the try-rap to the back where it could not be seen. When ever possible I trapped the braid under some type of mechanical clamp, like the turn signal housing or the starter switch housing, that hides any bad ends and helps keep them from unraveling and keeps th etubing in place. Another nice thing is you can stretch it to make it smaller to fit on small harnesses or expand it up to fit larger diameter bundles. Looked very good when I was done, but I donot have the bike any more and do not have any pictures. http://www.sjmediasystem.com/cable-management-expandable-cable-tubing.html
  7. I am in Edgewater, (about 25 miles south of Daytona) Do not have any firm plans tis wekend , would be happy to meet up if we can work it out.
  8. I had a front fender trim bolt fall out in the first 600 miles. Found one of the bolts on the trunck strut had fallen out and the other was only in by 1 thread. I will be checking the saddle bag bolts in the morning.
  9. Sign me up, I'll take one and do a review. Steve Kowalcky Edgewater, FL
  10. Oil in the air boxes is normally a sign that the crankcase was over filled at one time or another. These motors are not very tolerant of overfilling the oil. Make sure the oil is not above the middle of the window.
  11. Try taking a look at the Krome-Werks slip-ons for the Venture, They are actually made for the Road King, but Krome-Werks made an adapter kit to fit them to the Venture hangers. They have various tips you can put on. Put a set on my 07 Venture and they sound very good with the turn out tips. Try this link to Sons of Thunder Metric Cycles, when I was looking he had the best price and free shipping. http://www.sotmc.com/product_info.php?cPath=27&products_id=333
  12. I think that is the spout for the Latte machine, but I thought that option was onlt available for the Goldwings.
  13. For what it is worth , I am using Kuryaken's rubber throttle rocker and it works just great. Just another option in case you cannot fund what you are looking for.
  14. I'm going.
  15. Bump Anybody any ideas? 40+ folks have looked at the question and no thoughts?
  16. I was wondering if anyone knows if the Yamaha STR-4YV27-17-03 handle bar clamp will work on a Venture if you have the risers installed? It looks to me like the clamp will not clear the inside of the fairing where the cruise control on/off switch is located. Does anyone know for sure? Thanks http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e224/royalsteve/STR-4YV27-17-03.jpg
  17. It is a bit of a tussle, I had to fiddle with mine a couple of times to get enough slack, but there is enough you just need to wiggle and pull a bit more. I did take the cables out of the clamps on the bars while I was trying the get the slack I needed and then worked them back into the clamps once the risers were installed. Good Luck
  18. Thanks, he is a Devon Rex, we have 2 Devons and 1 Cornish Rex. Neat part is , people that are normally allergic to cats are not allerigic to these breeds. They are very afectionate and you must be a cat lover to own one , bcause they are very demanding of attention. As far as the lights go it is a case of doing the research before you buy anything and the internet is a great place to to do the research.
  19. That's the same light bar you can purhase at a number of places on the internet for about $26.00. I picked one up in Daytona last bike week from one of internet sellers that was in town and with some hardware and wire I had around the shop was able to install it in about the same time. Take a look. http://s40.photobucket.com/albums/e224/royalsteve/?action=view&current=DSCN0361.jpg http://s40.photobucket.com/albums/e224/royalsteve/?action=view&current=DSCN0368.jpg http://s40.photobucket.com/albums/e224/royalsteve/?action=view&current=DSCN0362.jpg http://s40.photobucket.com/albums/e224/royalsteve/?action=view&current=DSCN0360.jpg
  20. Barons offers an end cap that looks similar to the stock Venture end cap that acts as a weight and is drilled to pick up the 4 scew holes in the end of the Kury ISO grips. see part #BA-7401-00 about $40.00.
  21. I always used Honda motorcycle specific low silicate coolant in my 98 Royal, put 96k on her before I bought my Venture. Never had any problems and always heard from what I consider reputable sources that regular 50 / 50 mix auot type coolant is bad for motorcyles cooling systems. For my monry I would stick with the Honda or Yamaha coolant.
  22. This is where I bought mine, price is a bit higher, but their search engine is much better and allows you to ensure you have the correct plug for your bike. www.magneticdrainplug.com/index.
  23. I will be around the first Saturday and Sunday then off work the last Friday and around Saturday and Sunday. Yamaha/STAR Motorcylces/STAR touring are having a breakfast on Friday. You should be able to sign up or download a reservation form from the STAR section of the Yamaha wensite.
  24. I second the motion on GRIP PUPPIES, put them on my 07 Venture because I was getting hand cramps, since then no handcramps and way cheaper than ISO Grips from the big K. I learned that if you use the new rubber version of K's throttle rocker that you need to trim the length of the grip puppies because the throttle rocker pushes the grip puppie between the grip and the end cap. Can cause the throttle to say open or not release as fast as it should.
  25. I saw a White bearded guy riding a GEN1 today on ST RD 44 on the west side of Deland. He had just come thru the intersection and waved at me and the wife on our 07 Blue/Black GEN 2 while waiting for a light to turn green.
