  1. Not sure where you got your info, but my info says the circumference of the earth is 24,902 miles that works out to a little over 10 trips around at the equator, still a lot of traveling.
  2. Mr. T from Orlando has over 260,000 on his 99. Saw him at Daytona Bikeweek this pass October.
  3. It will not do any good to link to STAR web site, if you are not a member you cannot view the forums. If I can figure out how to down size the photo I will post it so it can be opened. or try this link http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e224/royalsteve/airboxmod.jpg Here is a blurb from the tech section of the VENTURERS web site; http://www.venturers.org/Tech_Library/index.php?action=article&cat_id=002012&id=211 Air Inlet Hole At the front of the air filter housing, where the air enters, is a 1-1/2" hole behind the D shaped cover. The engine needs air, so I got a Dremmel tool and cut out the opening to match the D shaped cover leaving a small lip for support. It makes a big difference. The small hole from the factory is there to keep the noise level down. I heard no increase in noise, just more power. I did not rejet the carbs or install different mufflers. Yamaha spent millions of dollars in time and R&D to make it run the way it is. This just makes it a little better.
  4. I just did the air box mod on mine today, did not take any pics, but here is one from the STAR web site. I have not taken it out for a test yet. http://www.startouring.org/forum/thumb.aspx?a=2393&ImageID=2185
  5. One of my most favorite hymns, I really like the rendition done by the BLIND BOYS FROM ALABAMA, maybe not to everyone's liking but I like it. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZJ-kLKut9E]YouTube - Blind Boys From Alabama-Amazing Grace[/ame]
  6. I am in Edgewater, just 25 miles south of Daytona and about 50 miles east Leesburg. I ride in the Leesburg (Lake county ) area a lot. Good riding to the south in the Sugarloaf area. Sugarloaf mountain is one of the highest elevations in Florida.
  7. Hey Jack I know there are lots of folks working in Marrietta, but would you know my old buddy Marc Eaton? He has been with you guys as an aircraft electrician since the mid 80's, we worked together in Saudi Arabia for the now defunct McConnell Douglas Services company. Just curious.
  8. 4XY-21315-00-00 STAY, ENGINE , is not the part you are looking for, that is the brace that bolts the motor to the frame, often called the dogbone. The part I think you are looking for is shown on the parts diagram in the section under "STAND, FOOTREST", but they do not give the part number for the support. They have an ID number and part number for the entire assembly and all of the parts except the part that the foot rest bolts to and then bolts to the frame. Sorry I could not be more help.
  9. I use the led tail light and modulator from Custom Dynamics http://www.customdynamics.com/Yamaha_tail_retro.htm. I spliced the modulator into the pigtail between the board and the plug, mounted the modulator right inside the taillight itself.
  10. A fellow named Scott Baken over at Star Touring and Riding did that, looks pretty good. Try this link I think it will get you there. http://www.startouring.org/viewimage.aspx?id=3094
  11. N3FOL You do not need the adapters at all, those are for other bikes that have threaded test ports. The Venture has has 4 small "nipples" as the test ports, those are covered with either a rubber cover or a small hose (2 of each) . When you remove those covers and hoses you will see the nipples just put your Carbtune hose on those. DO NOT try to remove the nipples, just connect into them. Remember make small adjustments you should not need to be turning the adjustment screws very much, small adjustments wiil make a big difference in the readings. Good Luck
  12. When I did mine I just cut the original tubes back the prescribed length for the adapters and used the restrictors supplied to splice them back together. In retrospect I will say that I had problrms with the tubes supplied by Morgan collapsing when they got warm, so I replaced them with vacuum hose from the local auto supply store.Still used the restrictors.
  13. I have those on my Venture, no problems. Here are some links to my Photobucket account with pics of the pegs. http://s40.photobucket.com/albums/e224/royalsteve/?action=view&current=2007VENTUREFOOTPEGS002-1.jpg http://s40.photobucket.com/albums/e224/royalsteve/?action=view&current=2007VENTUREFOOTPEGS001.jpg http://s40.photobucket.com/albums/e224/royalsteve/?action=view&current=2007VENTUREFOOTPEGS002.jpg http://s40.photobucket.com/albums/e224/royalsteve/?action=view&current=2007VENTUREFOOTPEGS003.jpg http://s40.photobucket.com/albums/e224/royalsteve/?action=view&current=2007VENTUREFOOTPEGS004.jpg http://s40.photobucket.com/albums/e224/royalsteve/?action=view&current=2007VENTUREFOOTPEGS005.jpg
  14. Brake Pad Yeah, I knew that, I did say it was a bit closer for me. :-0 I am up for lunch, if we need to find a location closer to a mid point, like Vero or Ft Pierce that would be fine. I am tied up on on the first of November for a benifit ride. Either one of you Know any good places in Vero or Ft Pierce. Lets set a time and a place.
  15. Hey Walt You are like mid way between Brake Pad and me, well closer to me by a little bit, we could meet in Rockledge and you could buy us lunch ;-).
  16. I had the same sensation on my 98 Royal when I changed from Metzlers to Avons, I never did get used to them. It was a real stuggle to decide on which tire to put on the Venture when the stock Bridgestones wore out. I went with the Micheliens, which were good tires, but cut one on vacation and was forced into a set of Metzlers unless I wanted to wait 2 or 3 days for something else. I still like the way the Metzlers handle, I just worry about the chuncking that many others have experienced.
  17. Walt There are two things I really like about the hitch. 1) Bustech made it using the same piece that Yamaha uses to span between the left and right lower saddle bag support. So it can be bolted on in place of the original spanner. 2) If you take the locking ball off and do as I did and cover the pin with a black plastic cap it is noticable but not obtrusive. If you run with the locking ball on and no trailer it will rattle. I have never run a bike trailer with anything else so I do not have any idea if it is better or worse, but it works very well. I think Bushtec makes a recieve type set up for the Goldwing, I havee not been to their web site in a long time , I am not sure if they offer a reciever for any other set ups. just incase you wanted to find a way to eliminate the pin when not running with the trailer.
  18. Ruffrider99 did you get the email I sent with the photos of the fairing bumpers? It was great to meet everyone in person , I had a great time, we should do that again.
  19. Bushtecs are pricey, no aurgument there. I have a Bushtec Roadstar I pulled with my 98 Tour Classic and now pull with my Venture. I have pulled it for probably 10,000 or 12,000 miles with no issues, hardly even know that is back there. I would expect te Quantum to pull in the same manner. I would not hesitate to spend the extra cash to buy another Bushtec if I ever need to replace the Roadstar.
  20. Just got back from Daytona Meet and Greet , Ruffrider99 wanted this info posted afer seeing my set up in person.
  21. I am not sure where I saw them, probably JC Whitney or J&P Cycles, but there is a 3 switch set up that mounts to the top of the brake or clutch master cyclinder. If I find them I will post a link, I am sure someone here has them or had them at one time.
  22. The Sly Fox is closed but they are open under new managment, ate there about a week ago, still have good food and service. I have never been one to pass up a chance to meet other riders or lunch. Just say when and I will try to make it. I live just about 20 miles south of Daytona and plan to be out and about all 4 days of Biketoberfest.
  23. Gregg I am planning to attend Bikeoberfest, well at least I have the time scheduled off work, most of the time that works , but I can never be sure until the day is over and I have not been called in. Funny how often you can forget to turn on your cell phone ;-)
  24. Sonny I am only 20 miles south of Daytona, I take at least 2 days off each year for bikeweek. Be happy to hook up with while you are in town, show you a few local rides or whatever. cell 386-314-6945 email stevemarilyn@hotmail.com
  25. Mitch You did not say when you were experiencing the roll on vibration. If it is in all gears all the time, then something is wrong, plugs, carb synch or dose of seafoam is needed as noted above. If you are seeing it in 4th or 5th gears at lower speeds (40 to 50) , then you are probably lugging the motor down. As noted above these motors like to rev and 4th and 5th gears are both overdrives, so unless you upwards to 60 or 70 mph, rolling on the throttle hard in 4th or 5th is likely to give you some vibrations no matter how well the engne is tuned. This bike will run 90 mph in third gear and still have room before you hit the rev limiter. Just some thoughts.
