  2. My 91 VR project is behind me, I finally got to ride my new touring machine and was really impressed by the quality of my ride, many of you where telling me how good the Venture was and with your help, I must agree its a great ride. The motor seems to purr between 4000-5000 RPM and growl above 5000, without noticeable vibrations or hesitations, no back-fire and very smooth. The bike handles better than expected, with proper damper adjustment and air pressure my ride is solid in long sweepers, with no noticeable speed wobbles at +130 km/h, sharp and crisp in rapid curves, I am impressed for a 21 year old touring machine. Braking is top notch with R1 calipers and new rotors, it's all about control and power. Comfort is good, I also love the cruise control, ease of operation and constant speed hold make's it a big plus and helped me get 42 MPG on my first two tankfuls, riding two-up with a 800 pound bike is very good as long as I am concerned. 3 months of hard work and love to bring back life in this machine, with many modifications such as, K&N air filter, fuse upgrade, complete front fork rebuild with progressive springs, complete brake overhaul with R1 calipers, new rotors, stainless brake lines, complete carburetor restoration and mounting computer on top of air filter. One last upgrade is left to do for this year(maybe), is Ignitech computer upgrade to replace my 21 year old black box, I did receive unit and will be installing unit next week with Dingy's help(Got a new laptop), this should also help to increase response and control of motor operation. Mike
  3. and you could see ANY event in time, what would it be? from a safe distance, of course.... i think i would want to see what actually "crashed" at Roswell.
  4. From my Nortons, to BMWer to HD I am hooked on the Royal Star engines. Thanks to all who helped me navigate the transition from my Road King to a roaring 4 cyl Yamaha. Three weeks ago I passed on the 03 Venture after trying a RSTD at the last minute mainly because of a heavy feeling on the Venture's steering. I was ready to lay the cash down on the Venture until the RSTD ride. Guess I wasn't used to the baggers and I ride mainly solo. Last week I located a 05 RSTD in CA that was a screamer with Krome Werks pipes, Kurykyn highway pegs, studde tank bra with pouch Mustang seats with driver back rest and OH YEA for the solo ride a studded single Ultimate seat with a carriage rack. I bought a Kuryakn Grantailgater I adore the many configuration the RSDT affords and above all love the high rpm this machine screams at. I don't have to wait till the cow come home like my V-Twins to get warmed and ready. Fourth gear really is an over drive and 5th a luxury. As for the chrips easily handled with rpm and never an issue other than it reminds you that you are lugging your machine. It's how you drive it. I did a 150 mile in the snow capped Sierras and this RSTD handle, shifted and responded like a German designed machine without the ugliness and it turned some serious uphill in ant hills. Hope there is room here for the RSTD machine Normax:cool10:
  5. While grazing on Ebay in early Dec. 2011 I saw a 1986 VR ( item 150711597381, photos were still up recently), advertised as a project bike. Finally bid ended at $680, which I thought was cheap for such a fine older machine. Winning bidder never paid and I was offered the VR for bid price, shipping to my home added $400 but still cheap for a diamond in the rough. Found your very friendly and informative site while the bidding on the VR was still active and joined on ,12/8. As you have said best $12 I've spent. I've already found a very nice replacement seat, windshield and normal maintenance items, and of course downloaded manuals etc. Not surprising that a complicated machine with many electrical/electronic devices which are 26 years old (isn't that about 78 in motorcycle years) is in need of TLC. Along with working on the defects noted in Ebay listing a thorough fork and steering head rebuild/upgrade is planned.Pleased to see that several members have a machining background.
  6. Has anyone tried to fit one of these in a current model Venture or RSTD saddlebag? I tried calling Reda Innovations and got the answering machine. Just wanna know how it fits or stays put once it is in the saddlebag.
  7. Designed with a brain, paper and pencil...not a computer. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBjlSJf4274&feature=fvsr]Fordson Snow Machine - 1929 Concept - YouTube[/ame]
  8. Just sitting here in my Fruit of the Looms doing some thinking. Do my best thinking like this at times. I know you use a CPAP machine as I do. Reading up on it and if you aren't using machine as you should your sleep will still be interrupted at times and these inturruptions can lead to memory loss. I guess you haven't been using your machine as you should. This explains why you have those memory lapses and forget the lesson taught to you about 1st Gens and 2nd Gens. Bringing "Brown Sugar' Down this year and she is faster than "UGLY" I may have to give lessons again in 1st Gen Ed 101.......:rotfl: Be good to see ya Bro!!!
  9. I had heard of Capt. Freemans flights and seen it on Discovery Channal. It is a sad day when an article such as this is soo true. Our youth and media have forgotten the heroic actions and sacrafcices of those who of previous generations. You're a 19 year old kid. You're critically wounded and dying in the jungle somewhere in the Central Highlands of Viet Nam . It's November 11, 1967. LZ (landing zone) X-ray. Your unit is outnumbered 8-1 and the enemy fire is so intense from 100 yards away, that your CO (commanding officer) has ordered the MedEvac helicopters to stop coming in. You're lying there, listening to the enemy machine guns and you know you're not getting out. Your family is half way around the world, 12,000 miles away, and you'll never see them again. As the world starts to fade in and out, you know this is the day. Then - over the machine gun noise - you faintly hear that sound of a helicopter. You look up to see a Huey coming in. But.. It doesn't seem real because no MedEvac markings are on it. Captain Ed Freeman is coming in for you. He's not MedEvac so it's not his job, but he heard the radio call and decided he's flying his Huey down into the machine gun fire anyway. Even after the MedEvacs were ordered not to come. He's coming anyway. And he drops it in and sits there in the machine gun fire, as they load 3 of you at a time on board. Then he flies you up and out through the gunfire to the doctors and nurses and safety. And, he kept coming back!! 13 more times!! Until all the wounded were out. No one knew until the mission was over that the Captain had been hit 4 times in the legs and left arm. He took 29 of you and your buddies out that day. Some would not have made it without the Captain and his Huey. Medal of Honor Recipient, Captain Ed Freeman, United States Air Force, died last Wednesday at the age of 70, in Boise , Idaho May God Bless and Rest His Soul. I bet you didn't hear about this hero's passing, but we've sure seen a whole bunch about Lindsay Lohan, Tiger Woods and the bickering of congress over Health Reform. Medal of Honor Winner Captain Ed Freeman Shame on the media !!! Now... YOU pass this along. Honor this real hero.
  10. I was at the New Bern Bike Rally today and met this feller. Quite the character he was, and a Machine to match. This guy has been around as we shot the crap (censored)and told me the places he has been. I took pic's with my Droid, but this YouTube says it so much better. Enjoy! 11. I would like to find a PowerPack / Portable Power Supply that does not have an air compressor or the jumper cables. Is there such an animal? I need it to run my sleep machine when we camp and kayak. Anybody know if there is such a thing? Thanks, Ross
  12. i was down at the casino. putting $20 in this machine and coins where comming out just as fast as i could hit the red button. man i was on a roll. then i looked up and saw it was a change machine. its going to be a long winter
  13. Yesterday wife and I were out fooling around and stopped at a shop that handled both Yamaha and Can Am. Well, there sat this black RT (tourer) fully loaded. Just for grins and giggles we took it for a test ride. While I have to admit it's pretty cool not having to worry about holding up a 900 lb bike when at a stop light, I found the steering to be "loose". It was VERY sensitive (guy at the dealership says it takes a while to get used to it?) Wife reports the pillion is comfortable (though NOT as good as our RSV) but that it felt like it was shifting from side to side while we were riding. (not sure if that was just me fooling with the bars to get a feel for it or ??) Anyway, pretty nice machine but just a touch on the weird side. Anybody else ridden one? If so, what did you think of the steering/handling? I don't "think" I'd get used to the handling very quickly.....Also, having no hand brake lever on the right grip seems a little strange.. Must be getting a little "oldfarty":backinmyday:

    Boss Hoss

Well, the Boss Hoss National Rally is here again this coming weekend. There will be LOTS of bikes here, not just Boss Hoss. It is also the Mid-South Motorcycle Festival. http://www.bosshosscountry.com/ A few of us were discussing these the other day, and I found a few photos of the one I was talking about. This guy is from Vermont, and owns his own machine shop. He and his wife both ride Boss Hoss trikes, but he stretched his out, and it now has two, yes two 502 engines in it. He said it makes 1050 HP. The guy does very nice work! http://thumb9.webshots.net/t/72/72/9/76/81/2472976810035120669xZhGdv_th.jpg http://thumb9.webshots.net/t/55/755/1/34/65/2838134650035120669lnetac_th.jpg http://thumb9.webshots.net/t/71/71/8/35/7/2916835070035120669JIAAhR_th.jpg
  15. And it has me concerned. We went out for a day trip to Whistler, BC. Nice place if you've ever get the chance. Making a couple stops I noticed a wet spot after backing out of a parking spot. Not a little amount of clear liquid. I didn't examine it any more than to look at it from the back of the machine. But it looked like water. Kinda like when an air conditioner leaks under a car on hot days. It seems to have stopped now...but it has me worried! Should I be?
  16. Is there any way of knowing what RSV engines could be used for replacement, say, on an ’03 RSV. When it gets time I would like to give my “ride” a new lease on life. I like this machine. Yamaha and parts suppliers aren’t much help. Their position: responsibility rest with you for knowing your needs.
  17. Does anybody know what is coming down the pike regarding a new RSV. A new engine with fuel injection? Might be in the market for a new touring machine in a year or two.
  18. My continuing project is now complete. I built a long travel leading link front suspension just to see if I could. Bought a milling machine to make the parts and spent lots of time learning to machine steel and figure out how to make the necessary parts. Just finished my test run down the road and I'm still alive! The front wheel is moved ahead 4 inches to shorten the trail so the handling is quite good. Cannot think of anything else to do - so I guess it is done!
  19. Purchased a Kumho Powerstar and then it began........ Tire shop couldn't fit my rear rim on their machine! Friend drove tire down to bike shop [doing favour for tire shop] Back to tire shop to inflate correctly. Back to bike shop to balance tire on their machine -- discover that tire isn't on rim properly! Bike shop said leave it with them and they will try [inbetween other servicing] to get it to bead correctly. Tire there for two days, but can't get it to bead!! So now I have asked Quickstep if he can take it to work and see if the truvk tire fitter can bead it on with his more powerful machine. Just hope all this hasn't distorted the tire????
  20. With 700' of driveway, I was luvin' this machine today.
  21. Got to visit the USS Midway yesterday. What they said would take us 2 - 3 hours, really took us 6 hours. Wow! what a machine.

Freeman You're a 19 year old kid. You're critically wounded and dying in the jungle in the Ia Drang Valley. November 11, 1965. LZ X-ray , Vietnam Your infantry unit is outnumbered 8-1 and the enemy fire is so intense, from 100 or 200 yards away, that your own Infantry Commander has ordered the MediVac helicopters to stop coming in. 23. I was just wondering why we don't have a area on the forum to post suggestion and ideas that the Yamaha team can draw from, and reply to? I would think it would be great market research, and a great what to improve the machine and keep riders comming back and buying the latest and greatest thing. Just a thought.

  25. has anyone tried or had success in getting the trunk to stop rattling all over the place? such a beautiful machine, quiet, smooth, and the dang trunk sounds like it belongs on a tonka truck.
