  1. Greg I am the same, only been riding about 12 years, but seldom lock my helmets to or in the bike. About the only time I do is during the major bike events here in Daytona, only because you get so many non-biker folks out, that they do not respect that unspoken code of respect between bikers that says , "do not touch my bike", and you never know what they will do.

  3. I Like to do woodworking when I can, but all of my tools are in garage and the wife has two rules. Her car must be in the garage at night. The garage has o be clean when I quit for the day. So that means a look of work after I get done for the day, putting up tools and cleaning up sawdust. Not to mention it gets all over the Venture. i did take up turning a few years ago, that can really be a lot fun and you can stop any time and then just go back to it a few days or weeks later to finish it. here is one I did last year.
  4. No wonder it took him so long to get from VA to FL. I guess I don't have to worry about him needing to borrow my carb tune any more.
  5. I have not been to Pensacola in nearly 30 years so I cannot offer any advice on where to ride or eat, but if you have a chance try to get in to see the Naval Air museum that is on the base there, if you can in this day and time.
  6. My wife and I would be interested , we have talked about it several times. We just returned from a two week 2500 mile trip to DC and back, so the next vacation will not be on the bike. We had a great time, but after 9 years of motorcycle vacations we are ready for a change. Keep me posted on what you need to cement the deal.
  7. Try this link, it should help. http://www.biketoberfest.org/
  8. My normal routine is 1. stop the bike 2. put kickstand down to stop the motor 3. plant both feet 4. let the wife off My thought being if the bike should try to go over while she is getting off it will set down on the kickstand if I lose my balance. Having said all of that, I now remember that I must have used the key to shut off the motor that time, because the motor was not running when I went down and the key was in my hand when I hit the ground. Brain must have said , wife is off, motor if off = kickstand down. Oh the other knock on effect was that the jolt knocked the CDs in the changer (in the trunk) out of the holder and I had to field strip it in the hotel room to get the stuck disk out. It is working now, I just have to see it will work OK while riding.
  9. This so stupid I hate to even admit it. We on our first day of a two week tour up the east coast (FL to DC and back) , we stop for gas wait, I for the wife to get off. Next thing I know the bike has gone over and thrown me off like a bad hat. FORGOT to put the kickstand down before the wife got off , Just a couple of scatches on the engine guards and a hugely bruised ego.
  10. It is NOT a recall, it is a service bulletin, make sure you ask for it as a service bulletin. Someone around this web site has a copy of the service bulletin, I think I have a copy on my desktop computer, but it is packed away for at least another month while the house is being remolded, so I can not get to it.
  11. CD changer is supposed to be included with the 09, dealer was supposed to install it as part of the standard equipment.
  12. There is a service bulletin out on the 07's, some of them did not get the head bolts torqued correctly. The dealer can tell if your's is one of the affected ones by the VIN. Either way, it is still under warrenty, make the dealer take care of it, way to much at risk if you do it and it all goes wrong, because they will not cover it if it looks like you goofed it up.
  13. Check your coolant overflow bottle. Sometimes if the oil seal on the water pump goes bad it will pump oil into the cooling system. Had that happen on a 98 Royal Star, I do not think I ever lost 2 quarts. It is very unusal for Royal Stars to use or lose any oil.
  14. I vote we stay away from A1a or any place around Mainstreet, it is always a mess and hard to get to anyplace in that area. The old Sly Fox in South Daytona is as good as any. As stated above good parking, not crowded, good place outside to sit and BS. Just my 2 cents.
  15. I wil be there, it is only a 25 mile ride. Hey Ruffy, you want to do the same as last year, or should we find a new place? I know a little Italian place in Edgewater where you can get a cannoli.
  16. Sorry I did not get his name or card. Wish I could help.
  17. I found my lower left fairing cracked on my 07 just before Bike week here in Daytona. Stopped at the dealer I purchased it from in Daytona. The service manager said it should be a warrenty issue and if I wanted quick service I should go over to the speedway and find the FL rep for Yamaha. Armed with his name I found him, he looked at the bike , said yes it is covered by the warrenty. He called the service manager at the dealer while I was standing there and told him to order the fairing. Within 10 days I had it replaced and was good to go. yes it is covered by the warrenty.
  18. The "S" took the place of the Midnight a few years back. The "S" has more chrome than the standard. The front forks are chromed, I think the master cylinders and levers are chromed and maybe the triple tree. Basically the diference is more: chrome = more $$
  19. I did not see anyone recomend installing the leveling links. They do a lot for the low speed handling characteristics of the Venture. I must say it is a bit of time in the saddle syndrome also, the more time you spend riding the bike the more comfortable you will be. I typically get about 10,000 miles per year on my bike, if I lay off riding ro a couple of weeks I notice that I am not as sharp or comfortable with the bike as I am when I ride daily or weekly. Trailing the rear brake during slow speed manuveres helps a lot, one thing that will definnatly get you in trouble with thses bikes is using the front brakes as slow speeds during a turn. By trailing the rear brake and using the clutch to help maintain or control or speed you can improve your low speed handeling. 20. I received the same with mine back in 07, I believe they are the same as the ones in the load on the CB antennae , not sure why they would give extras, but I have talked with a few owners who also got them and no explanation. I asked the sales guy about them when I picked my bike up, and he was clueless. Figued they wer just extras. possible that Yamaha includes extra screws because they are so small that they could get lost easy before they are installed. I will also say that more than one person has reported losing their CB antennae, maybe they are just in case you find a set screw missing before the antennae departs the bike, that way you will be able to replace the scew and keep the antennae intact.
  21. A very special cat (see link) needs rescuing in Columbus. http://www.devonrexbreedclub.com/rescue2.html Devon's are very special, I should know I have two. They love people, purr like crazy and are the best bed warmers for those cold winter nights. They shed very little and many folks that are alegic to regular cats can have Devons with no ill effects. Take a look at the link , If you can help you will not be sorry. http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e224/royalsteve/MickeyandI2.jpg
  22. I had a similar problem on my 07 and it turned out to be an out of round front tire. Was a little hard to detect, the dealer had to put it on the balancer and spin it while watching the top surface. It did not show up as a problem with the balance. Some times while riding it was more noticable that others.
  23. One difference between conventional automobile oils and motorcycle oils is the addition of friction inhibitors in the automobile oils. For motorcycles with wet clutches that share the same oil for the clutch and the crankcase ( like the Royal Star line) you can get clutch slippage form those oils with friction inhibitors. There are lots of threads on this and other forums that talk about this, should be easy to get as many diferent opinions as you care to read pretty easily. Me; if it does not say "formulated for wet clutches" , it is not going in my bike.
