  1. Some other things that could cause it are alignment and loose inner fender, also check to see if the tires are cupping or scalloping on the inside, that'll do it too if you do a rotation on a car with a really bad alignment problem. Stupid idea but check the lugs and make sure their all tight.
  2. What about the folding hydraulic outrigger kits? that way when your in motion your on a bike, when you come to a stop they deploy and keep your bike upright. Best of both worlds there, dunno how much they cost or if there is a dedicated kit for the RSV but I believe they make them for wings and such, could be worth a look into and maybe check some local fab shops to see what it'd take to make one work.
  3. We have the street and steel b-24 helmets at cyclegear that come with a zip-off wind skirt that has built in speaker pockets for $59.99, they are made by bell.
  4. I had to winterize my bikes about a week ago, by winterize I mean drop 2 pounds of air pressure in the tires and start wearing my textile pants and thicker gloves...other than that there's not much else to do.
  5. So sorry to hear about your friend, hopefully justice will be more fully served than the case of Anita Zaffke.
  6. What these morons don't realize is that this law is way way more fair than the current federal law. Federal law does'nt require lawful contact or even reasonable suspicion before an officer asks for your proof of citizenship does, Arizona's law requires you to actively be commiting a crime or have some other sort of lawful contact with an officer before they can ask for your papers. In Arizona if you feel there is some sort of profiling or discrimination they added a clause that allows you to sue the police, you have to sit and take it from the feds however many times they do it. Also they can tell just by pulling you over because you can't get a drivers liscense without a birth certificate, visa, temporary visa or green card, but that would fall under the lawful contact clause. I think it's great, 13 more states are working on similar bills, even Massachusets passed one that completely cuts illegals off from public services and support funds, I'm not sure how many illegals they get way up there but I doubt it can be anything like it is down here.
  7. You could also try talking to the guys over at great day to ride, lots of SV riders send their seats to them modded and have way better results than any off the shelf seat, most get a gel pad inserted with a layer of memory foam over that, they reuse the stock seat cover so it looks original. I think you have to ship the seat to them along with $65 and they usually have a pretty quick turn around rate.
  8. If it were a real journalist/reporter I would take the time to watch it, but she's just a sensationalist moron, nearly Glen Beck's equal only she's not even entertaining. Well it's never happened at this depth, thats the difficult part, and despite all those methods being tried in that leak they are the standard fixes that more often than not end up working, they are'nt using them because they have a low success rate. To think they would not use the most effective methods to plug this leak is just daft, it's in the best interest of their checkbooks and future worth to get this thing stopped asap so I doubt they are'nt doing all they can. Where things are really failing in on the gvmt end with the containment and cleanup, over three weeks ago Jindal tried to have a barrier dredged up to keep the oil off the coast, two days ago I beleive they gave him the ok to do it, in that time we could have had around 70 miles of barrier up to keep the oil off the coast, now we've got oil covering the marshes while the dredges that could have stopped it have been sitting idle ready to go for three weeks. I do agree that it should'nt have happened, especially in this case because of all of the cut corners with gvmt regulators turning a blind eye because their palms were well greased by big oil. Given the record I think the safety procedures in place work really well....as long as operators follow them and the regulators enforce them, in this case neither of those things really seemed to take place.
  9. No, I saw it but it was Rachel Maddow and that heiffer gives me a headache so I did'nt watch it but I'm sure she left out some things to serve her agenda in demonizing an industry because it's too successfull despite the fact it accounts for 53% of the gulf coast economy. Sedco 135F was a rig right off the coast of mexico in the bay of Campeche, technically it was in the gulf but it was'nt one of our wells or even in our oil field, not even close. That rig was owned and operated by Pemex, a mexican government owned company so needless to say they have their own regulations and such. Again in our oil fields our rigs have drilled 60,000 over the course of 63 years with this one failure. In case you don't know where the bay of Campeche is here is link to the coordinants where the rig was located. http://www.bing.com/maps/default.aspx?v=2&cp=25.183521465658145~-92.10252685546874&lvl=5&sty=h&sp=Point.m717gy795mrh_Ixtoc%20I%20oil%20spill____
  10. I read somewhere that since 1947 there have been over 60,000 wells drilled in the gulf of mexico without incident untill now....it's still tragic and will impact things for a long time but that's a pretty impressive record...not even nasa has a mission success rate that good.
  11. I told mine in the begining, I've never NOT had a bike of some sort, but I've been single lots of times, women cause nearly every problem I have and only my bike can make me forget them.
  12. Varies from state to state, here in LA under a certain length your only required to have reflectors up front, and the tail lights have to also function as running lights.
  13. I'd also like to know what the percentage of crashes are caused by wet roads since most riders don't ride in the rain lol. IMHO thats another situation where reflex decisions would come into play, One day I was on my way home from work and following a dodge dakota at around 30 yards difference at 45mph when it hit a suburban that turned left and actually spun out because of the rain on the oily roads, I barely managed to squeek between the two because there was another car next to me in the right lane and oncoming traffic in the other lane, any brakes at all and I'd have hit the suburban broad side and risked getting pancaked between it and the car behind me or bouncing into the other lane because ABS or not there was no way I could have stopped in time and even if I did the car behind me could'nt. That seems to generally be the case in most crashes I hear about, even with ABS there simply is'nt enough room to stop once things start unfolding and once the braking attempt has failed there is'nt enough time to try avoiding the obstacle. I rarely go for my brakes anymore when I see something unfolding around me, pretty much any really hard braking tosses control out the window, I'd rather take my chances dodging than going in a straight line hard on the brakes where there might be a chance I can stop with a much greater chance that I'll make contact and/or get smacked from behind also.
  14. So needless to say from my point of view I absolutely do not think manditory ABS will make a difference in crash statistics, however if they required all bikes to be optioned out sport touring bikes for the white collar crowd the ABS tag may make a difference. I'd rather see manditory low cost new and advanced rider courses, manditory minimum safety gear, maybe a tiered liscense system. Oh and lastly ALL drivers would have to at least have a motorcycle/trike liscense before they could operate a vehicle unless physically unable...so everyone would feel our pain and start looking out for us.
  15. I've been in plenty of oh-$hit situations and locking the brakes has never been a problem and never once did I wish I'd have had abs. Simple fact is that on a bike experience and practice make the difference when it comes to situations when hard braking is needed. Do you think power steering would help prevent riders from hitting left turners and redlight runners? dont think so. We've been having this discussion over on the SV forums for a while too and the few main things to take into account that these studies do not, while abs bikes do tend to be involved in less wrecks they don't factor in what types of bikes are the ones being involved. Most abs bikes are the sport touring bikes these days like FJR's and such, generally by their very nature and intended segment of riders they are way less likely to be involved in a crash abs or not because they are mostly ridden by older more conservative riders. Most flagship super sports come standard with abs now too and are still at the higher end of the crash chance percentages only because of the type of people who ride them, usually younger people who have little to no experience who have no business on any type of bike, or more experienced riders who simply feel the need to push the boundaries of themselves and their machines...either case the vast majority of crashes on sportbikes involve only the rider and happen when brakes are'nt a factor. Then there is the HD cruiser crowd, well, those guys have a lifestyle to live up to.
