  1. The only thing I can think of that I have not added back to the forum is the countdown page. It was the page that counted down the days until various rallies and etc. I think that those events get enough attention here and on the calendar that the countdown page was pretty much just a novelty. What are your opinions? Is it something that any of you really miss?
  2. It SNOWED last night...
  3. Here's some pics of our Meet yesterday. Now I don't know but looks like Beer really missed some of us more then others. Of course he was on also as you can see when he had everyone's attention. The only amazing thing is that these folks don't see us coming and lock the place up. Margaret
  4. I wanted to take the time to thank one of the Venture Riders on this site. For the past 2.5 months he has patiently and meticulously worked to restore a Salvaged 99 RSV that I bought 2 years ago. I bought this bike thinking it would be a “winter project” but really underestimated the amount of work and attention to detail it would take to get it in tip top condition. A little about me....I am a perfectionist. If I am not confident that something can be done to perfection I will hold off until I am prepared to perform to that degree. I will not start something and say “oh that's no big deal, or that's not quite right but it will do” After realizing that this restoration was above my skill level, it sat in my garage until shortly after I joined this site and found WillBill1. Bill Little aka WillBill1 lives north of Charlotte, NC. What attracted me to Bill was the fact the he is a retire engineer, skilled mechanic, and rides what we ride. What more could you ask for? I told home my bike and he was confident that he could make it perfect and I knew after only a short while of speaking to him that he would treat my bike as his own- no shortcuts would be taken. I've included some pics of my bike before and after but that only tells a small piece of the story. The PO of my bike totaled it back in 2003 or 2004 and his well meaning son in law tried to put it back together, doing more harm that good. He used common nuts and bolts from Lowes or Home Depot, left lots of stuff off the bike and just all around screwed the bike up. Bill painstakingly combed over my bike for hours with part diagrams checking off every single nut and bolt that was missing or needed to be replaced and every electrical connection that needed to be repaired. He then got all the maintenance up to date and began doing some of the modifications we have here on our site. He installed a MP3 port next to my powerjack on the inner fairing. He installed my new passing lights and light bar, took out my cassette player and installed gauges, put the Harley License Plate Frame with additional brake lights on the back, raised my forks up in the triple trees to lower the front end and installed and Baron's Lowering Kit for the rear. Keep in mind while doing all this he would would find other little things that needed attention and fix those things as well. He found over 200 parts that were missing from the bike or need to be replaced.....that's attention to detail. I could go on and on about the work that Bill did. He was simply amazing. Not once did he complain about everything he ran into and not once did he raise the price on me that we had agreed to, which by the way was an unbelievable price. I had the pleasure of working with him some on this project and let me tell you, it was obvious he was an engineer. There were a few times that I said to myself “Holy Cow I would have never figured that out”, it was a real joy watching him at work. I hope that you guys will reach out to him if you ever feel you're in to deep and need help. I know beyond the shadow of a doubt that he can handle anything that comes his way. You can find him in the member vendors section..... http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showcat.php?cat=36 Bill, if you are reading this.....Thank You so much, if there is anything I can ever help you with....don't hesitate to call. You're a great guy, I would've never been able to do what you so skilfully did. Thanks again......Matt
  5. Anyone have experence with putting on a dampner? These shock type dampners look like a deal for speed wobble if they can be put on a Ist gen. I've had bikes over the years with them, but didn't pay attention how they mounted them. They were factory. Hoss brookdale@brookings.net
  6. Today I was driving down 4 lane street in Aberdeen SD. I pulled up beside a beat up car in the lane beside me, and noticed a 20 something year old woman with plenty of piercings driving. The smartphone she was texting on looked to be worth more than the car. I watched for a few seconds and it was ovious she was texting and not paying attention. Since it was a nice day she had her window down, I took advantage of the situation and voiced my displeasure. I said something to the extent "Quit your effing texting bfore you effing kill somebody!!!!" I know I shouldnt have used such colorful language, but I was pissed. her expression was like I hit her in the face with a shovel. And guess what she did. You guessed it, she went right back to texting. Some people....You Cant Fix STUPID.......... After what happened in Sioux Falls earlier in the week, you would think some people would pay attention.
  7. http://wingstuff.com/products/34009-vertical-trailer-hitch-for-2012-gl1800?from_search=1 Just wondering how many folks have saw this type hitch before on any bike brand ? I posted similar in the Wing section and not very much information there. So I supposed there might be other bikes that use this type hitch to. Just wondering please. I know I had never saw this type before, until it was brought to my attention. Thank you for any and all opinions. There are some up close pictures on the left side of the web page. Fuzzy
  8. While in Florida last week I accidently found a gas station that is by now probably out of business or at least somebody lost their high paying attendant job. The street sign said $3.54 a gallon, same as everybody else - I thought Didn't pay too much attention until I got the receipt, 12.886 gallons cost $32.85 - I had to do a double take but it was real - $2.54 a gallon Since we were 750 miles from home, Linda refused to go get the truck so we could fill it up also.

  10. Wow....!! I haven't been on since late yesterday afternoon, and there were only 21 new posts this morning, and after checking I see 225 members logged in. Talk about being slow lately. I really never pay any attention to the logged members, but I normally get 50+ new posts when I check in the AM... Are we all getting bored???
  11. I wish I had some of these. Might grab the cagers attention. http://s739.photobucket.com/albums/xx33/shtrdthrd/Funny/?action=view&current=legalspeeding.jpg PS: This is utadventure's son.
  12. Gyronut

    Ooops

Didn't think I would ever lean this thing over enough to scrape the floor board but I managed to do it. Got my attention real fast too.
  13. saw a first gen MkII just north of Kingston late Sat. afternoon. He was heading west on Unity Road crossing #38 onto Mud Lake Road...which takes you to the 401 I tried to get his attention but I was turning off and had someone right on my butt! Looked almost like MARCARL (poor guy!) ANYBODY FROM HERE?
  14. Like I feel many of you do, I routinely use brake parts cleaner. It works well, does not leave residue, and it is reasonably cheap. And, like many, I don't pay a lot of attention to the warnings on the can. I received the following in an e-mail from a friend and I think it warrants bringing to the attention of others on here. RandyA http://www.brewracingframes.com/id75.htm
  15. So what do you do to a bike that needs to much attention? Sell It!!!! So I don't own a Venture anymore. But I do have a new Star..
  16. Does this magnetically driven Fuelless Engine look usable to you? This caught my attention when stumbling around the net. There are so many hoaxes and crap on the net I am skeptical, but for some reason this one caught my attention because of its simplicity. One of their uses is to charge batteries etc depending how big you build it....... Opinions? http://www.docstoc.com/docs/9641978/The-Fuelless-Engine-Plans-_362 Brian
  17. ToyOdie

    OMG!

Yesterday I went ou to run some erands and the bike was feeling great. On the way home apperantly I took the turn into my sub-division a little sharper than I ususlly do and it finally happened. I drug the right floorboard. In all the years I have been riding I've never had anything on the ground except the tires and my feet. It sure did get my attention. The scraping sound sent chills up my spine and I think my heart skipped a beat. Now I know what the limit is on my bike and what to expect when it happens.
  18. Today I was preparing to go to Tennessee to get Monty's trailer and I noticed that the tag on my Venture had expired LAST JANUARY I've been to Michigan, Indiana, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and of course Ohio this summer so far. Fortunately my riding habits didn't draw the attention of the Police in any of those states or I may right now. After a lot of scurrying around I managed to get a valid sticker and get it on the bike. To some it's not really a big deal, however, had I been involved in an accident, regardless who's fault, it would have been my fault because I was illegally operating a vehicle on public roads. All sorts of things come to mind and NONE of them were of a good nature. guess I'd better start paying attention to more than riding and tire pressure.
  19. It's sad when people in vehicles do not pay attention or just won't. http://www.tcpalm.com/news/2010/jun/16/fatal-crash-early-wednesday-morning-palm-city-slow/
  20. On my last ride in East Tennessee, I decided to visit the Dragon. While I was in no hurry, I was still making a pretty good clip not just puttin. A group of crotch rockets tore past me like a bump in the road. The bikes were loaded and decked out with all the latest speed stuff and the drivers were in full leather with expensive looking helmets and boots. The thing that got my attention more than that was that each one had a gal on the back with nothing but a helmet, sneakers, and a bikini. They were wrapped around those guys tight with their aaaaaatributes stuck up in the air. I hope they never go down! At least I saw none of the bikinis on the tree of shame.
  21. We went for lunch yesterday from Omaha, NE to Maryville, Mo. Somewhere just a little south of Glenwood, IA we past a bike that at a quick glance, looked like a YELLOW Venture. - Obviously repainted. But, it looked cool. It was going West on the Highway and I was going East so I didn't get a good clear look at it, but the wife and I both say it was a Venture. Then, just 10 minutes or so later I say another one, (I don't remember the color). Very seldom do we see another Venture on the road, but to see TWO of them that close to each other really caught our attention. Was either one of them any of you folks? craigr
  22. I dropped my 06 off last week to have the clutch basket replaced. Concerns: If they said they replace it and they didn't. If its possible to mess something up (inexperienced mechanic). Is there a way other than riding it that would indicate that they actually changed it out? Or anything I should pay attention to? I do plan on requesting to see the one that came out of it. Not sure what I'll be looking at. But, do remember seeing a picture with a small "g" on it. Maybe I'm to skeptical of dealer work...tks
  23. looks like no long trips this year,, we have a couple of new additions that will require our attention.
  24. It was brought to my attention that there was a problem with the classifieds. When an item was listed with a separate shipping cost and the buy now was used. PayPal was not adding the shipping cost to the price of the item. There have been no recent changes so it has apparently been this way from the beginning. I thank Dingy for bringing the issue to my attention and it has been corrected now.
  25. Pay attention. There will be a test later. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Royal-Star-Yamaha-1999-Royal-Star-Venture-Cruiser-Touring-1300cc_W0QQitemZ120519767272QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_motorcycles?hash=item1c0f89b4e8
