  1. Warning, this may bring tears to your eyes and bring joy to your Patriotic heart. It sure did for me. Read on please and share. Fuzzy :usa: Christmas Poem TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, HE LIVED ALL ALONE, IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF PLASTER AND STONE. I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE, AND TO SEE JUST WHO IN THIS HOME DID LIVE. I LOOKED ALL ABOUT, A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE, NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS, NOT EVEN A TREE. NO STOCKING BY MANTLE, JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND, ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES OF FAR DISTANT LANDS. WITH MEDALS AND BADGES, AWARDS OF ALL KINDS, A SOBER THOUGHT CAME THROUGH MY MIND. FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT, IT WAS DARK AND DREARY, I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER, ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY. THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING, SILENT, ALONE, CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME. THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE, THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER, NOT HOW I PICTURED A UNITED STATES SOLDIER. WAS THIS THE HERO OF WHOM I'D JUST READ? CURLED UP ON A PONCHO, THE FLOOR FOR A BED? I REALIZED THE FAMILIES THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT, OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT. SOON ROUND THE WORLD, THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY, AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY. THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR, BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS, LIKE THIS ONE LYING HERE. I COULDN'T HELP WONDER HOW MANY LAY ALONE, ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME. THE VERY THOUGHT BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE, I DROPPED TO MY KNEES AND STARTED TO CRY. THE SOLDIER AWAKENED AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE, "SANTA DON'T CRY, THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE; I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM, I DON'T ASK FOR MORE, MY LIFE IS MY GOD, MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS." THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP, I COULDN'T CONTROL IT, I CONTINUED TO WEEP. I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS, SO SILENT AND STILL AND WE BOTH SHIVERED FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL. I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT, THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR SO WILLING TO FIGHT. THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER, WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE, WHISPERED, "CARRY ON SANTA, IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE." ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH, AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT. "MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND, AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT." This poem was written by a Marine. The following is his request. I think it is reasonable..... PLEASE. Would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many people as you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our U.S. service men and women for our being able to celebrate these festivities.
  2. TAKE TIME FOR CHRISTMAS I'm bound to write a piece for this season It is on my heart to tell you the reason To share of my feelings, it's all about love For all of you riders, from the Master above. ******************************* It's not all that easy to send one away Many have felt that, when war had it's way We send out our loved ones, to God knows where at To fight for what's right, and then lonely we sat We worried, we stewed, and hardly could bear The thought, that maybe, no more moments to share To wait for the time when all would be done Would they be safe? and the struggle be won? If you have not yet had that feeling inside Thank God for the peace He has 'llowed you to bide For many have learned and lost in the fight And then life went on in the dark of the night. No sharing of griefs would seem to replace The loss of a loved one, no more to embrace. The world has gone mad with it's race to succeed For years it has happened, and with you I now plead. The result is the same today, as before We will not find the rainbow of lore. It's peace that we need, of this I am sure So read to the end, there is hope of a cure. Jesus was born, His way to the fight He didn't have to do it, for Dad it was night. To let His Son go to fight with the devil It wasn't easy, and nothing was level. No rules were laid out, the battle was joined The outcome was known, but had to be coined. He lived 30 years and fought the good fight The end was His death on a cross in the night. For us He was born, so we might have passage If He were to rise, we could loose all our baggage Victorious He was and we can be thankful For the fact that He came and put down the devil. On Shopping and Santa we are focused today We're losing the story of Jesus and hay. He came to this world, for you and for me Take time in your life, His glory to see. Yes, take some of the day, that's has been set apart And worship The Soldier, from deep down in your heart. The future is bleak, while here we do ramble For ages we have tried and made it a scramble From one pit to another we tumble at best Today we're no closer to meeting our quest. We think we can do it, we have it in hand But then we soon realize; our Captain is banned From schools to the judge, from work and from play When will we realize we've thrown it away? What is our goal,,, will it take the right bend? We need to consider our course in the end! Forever is long, and there is no going back Make up your mind now, and give it no slack. Consider the road that leads to perfection! Just ask Him to join, there'll not be rejection. A family for certain, and sure we have troubles But peace in the end and then,,,, no more struggles. Carl Norg
  3. I am thankful for many things, far too many to list here, but I will list a few. I am thankful for my Lord and Savior. I am thankful for my family. I am thankful for my friends. I am thankful for my health. I am thankful for my second family here at VR. I am thankful for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. I am thankful for our soldiers who fight for our freedom. I am thankful for our country that allows us freedoms others don't have. In closing Charlene and I wish each and everyone a festive Thanksgiving.
  4. COULD DELIVER FOR A REASONABLE FEE DEPENDING ON LOCATION. Have to do what I have to do so I can save my credit. Having lots of trouble at work with them fibbing and not paying for what I work, so I filed for unemployment this morning because of lack of work. Its to close to my retirement so I must get rid of some things to save my credit and be able to buy a used bike when I do retire in February. So I pulled out all stops on my ride and I am letting it go for one HE** of a deal so please don't fight over it. First to confirm will get it. It is listed in the classified for sale 2008 RSTD 3 years left on warranty. $7500.00 loaded w/acces. I would like to see someone get a real deal here. Joe
  5. I pulled up beside a guy riding a custom Harley yesterday, he looks over at the Venture and says "Good looking bike" , I replied thanks and before I could repay the compliment he says "Is that one of those Kawasaki-Yamahas?" Dumb founded I had to compose my self before I answered, figuring there would be this big fight right in the intersection if I said what I was thinking. I nicely said "No this is a Yamaha Royal Star Venture". The light tuned green and I got a very nice hole shot jump on him and left him in my dust wondering what just happend.
  6. So Sing Along. US Coast Guard: We're always ready for the call, We place our trust in Thee. Through surf and storm and howling gale, High shall our purpose be. "Semper Paratus" is our guide, Our fame, our glory, too. To fight to save or fight and die, Aye! Coast Guard we are for you! US Air Force: Off we go into the wild blue yonder, Climbing high into the sun; Here they come zooming to meet our thunder, At 'em boys, Give 'er the gun! (Give 'er the gun now!) Down we dive, spouting our flame from under, Off with one helluva roar! We live in fame or go down in flame. Hey! Nothing'll stop the U.S. Air Force! US Navy: Anchors Aweigh, my boys, Anchors Aweigh. Farewell to college joys, we sail at break of day-ay-ay-ay. Through our last night on shore, drink to the foam, Until we meet once more. Here's wishing you a happy voyage home. US Marines: From the Halls of Montezuma To the shores of Tripoli We fight our country's battles On the land as on the sea. First to fight for right and freedom And to keep our honor clean; We are proud to claim the title Of United States Marines. US Army: First to fight for the right, And to build the Nation’s might, And The Army Goes Rolling Along. Proud of all we have done, Fighting till the battle’s won, And the Army Goes Rolling Along. Then it’s hi hi, hey! The Army’s on its way. Count off the cadence loud and strong For where’er we go, You will always know That The Army Goes Rolling Along.
  7. I'm looking for a right side lower fairing for a 2000 Venture (red),,,,, no it's not mine, but a friend of mine has it and took out a coon last year. He's ok but the fairing got the worst of the fight. Anybody that can help out?
  8. May we all remember what sacrifices our military are making, and say thank you to one of them if you see them out and about, and make sure we all thank them during the entire year. 9. I was on Facebook, checking in on Brayden Shields, he was the little boy who asked to have his picture taken with us while we were touring the hospital. I came across this poem written by his mother and thought maybe this might help some of you decide to help Brayden and other patients like him..........I was moved to tears by it...... ~ I WAS BORN A SOLDIER ~ I have been forced into a battle That I did not choose to fight, But the enemy will wage on So I will fight with all my might. My battle gear I traded For hospital gowns, needles, and IV's. No shortage of supplies, St.Jude has all I'll need. I will survive this battle, Starting now not tonight. Cancer didn't know who it messed with When it picked this fight. I was born to be a soldier. And a soldier I will be. Till the end of it all Or when I hear "You're Cancer Free". Now Cancer..., Don't come back later looking for me. I will not be here. If you even think about it , I will beat you!!! Is that clear? by: Misty Shields http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/229224_1870028403318_1619367348_1806391_7049042_a.jpg~ I WAS BORN A SOLDIER ~ Like

  11. One year, I decided to buy my mother-in-law a cemetery plot as a Christmas gift. The next year, I didn't buy her a gift. When she asked me why, I replied, "Well, you still haven't used the gift I bought you last year!" And that's how the fight started..... ________________________________ I took my wife to a restaurant. The waiter, for some reason, took my order first. "I'll have the rump steak, rare, please." He said, "Aren't you worried about the mad cow?" "Nah, she can order for herself." And that's when the fight started..... _______________________________ My wife and I were sitting at a table at her high school reunion, and she kept staring at a drunken man swigging his drink as he sat alone at a nearby table. I asked her, "Do you know him?" "Yes", she sighed, "He's my old boyfriend. I understand he took to drinking right after we split up those many years ago, and I hear he hasn't been sober since." "My God!" I said, "Who would think a person could go on celebrating that long?" And then the fight started... ________________________________ When our lawn mower broke and wouldn't run, my wife kept hinting to me that I should get it fixed. But, somehow I always had something else to take care of first, the shed, the boat, making beer.. Always something more important to me. Finally she thought of a clever way to make her point. When I arrived home one day, I found her seated in the tall grass, busily snipping away with a tiny pair of sewing scissors. I watched silently for a short time and then went into the house. I was gone only a minute, and when I came out again I handed her a toothbrush. I said, "When you finish cutting the grass, you might as well sweep the driveway." The doctors say I will walk again, but I will always have a limp. __________________________ My wife sat down next to me as I was flipping channels. She asked, "What's on TV?" I said, "Dust." She said, "I want something shiny that goes from 0 to 150 in about 3 seconds." I bought her a bathroom scale. And then the fight started...... ______________________________ After retiring, I went to the Social Security office to apply for Social Security. The woman behind the counter asked me for my driver's License to verify my age. I looked in my pockets and realized I had left my wallet at home. I told the woman that I was very sorry, but I would have to go home and come back later. The woman said, 'Unbutton your shirt'. So I opened my shirt revealing my curly silver hair. She said, 'That silver hair on your chest is proof enough for me' and she processed my Social Security application. When I got home, I excitedly told my wife about my experience at the Social Security office. She said, 'You should have dropped your pants. You might have gotten disability too.' And then the fight started... ________________________________ My wife was standing nude, looking in the bedroom mirror. 16. We all complain about the amount of boolsheet that is out there on the highways today. We have all seen it and had to deal with it. I have found the problem! If we can find this guy we can stop it today! Stand together and fight the boolsheet on our American Highways TODAY!
  17. Ok so Sunday the nice state trooper in Wisconsin decided he would give me a ticket (not to the policeman’s ball either. 68MPH in a 55MPH zone, which is a $160.00 invitation to court or just pay it and suffer the consequences with the insurance company. Before you ask I have no idea how fast I was going all I know is that I was going up a hill in the passing lane and the trooper was at the top of the hill with his laser radar on. The rest of the story is history as they say Please resist the funny comments I told them all to myself. I don’t know if I should fight it or just pony up the $160.00 and call it a day. My gut tells me to at least go to court and try to fight it. Anybody know any thing about laser radar? Accuracy? Problems with their use? Interference? Any LEOs out there that have any words of advice? Other than cough it up and get over it? If I don’t show up they find me guilty if the trooper doesn’t show, what happens then. Will they dismiss it? Not to happy with myself…. I haven’t had a ticket in over 40 years. Advice Please
  18. Fridays at work are great...even better when I can fit motorcycles into the Ontario high school curriculum and spend the period talking about biking. Today's law class had a particularly lively discussion though. The evidence from an experiment conducted last year at a local racetrack was presented in Ontario court yesterday, with at least one man's desire that Ontario will be the next Canadian province (in addition to BC and MB) that will allow Sikhs to got helmetless. Very interesting news, and quite the fight our brothers on 2 wheels are putting up to gain this as a right. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20080215.whelmet15/BNStory/National/home?cid=al_gam_mostemail Like our Venturerider moderators are already thinking...please, no racial slurs or religious comments should follow this post.
  19. Hi All: Sometimes it takes meeting some good people to make a final decision on what to do about a given situation. I have been out to a Meet and Eat in my Backyard and met some really great people. I have listened to a lot of opinions and had a lot of discussion about Yamaha and my bike Crickett. I have been doing this and saying this.....most likely coming to a decision myself. Bottom line is Yes I like the Venture Motorcycle, put all its good points on one side......put its bad ones on the other side......it comes out a winner, please forgive me......I have struggled to come to this decision myself. All of you know some about this Clutch Basket Chirp, some of you know exactly what it is as you have it......and are also tired of the Screech........I suppose that is the correct term to use.....A screech with a built in Crickett. So this evening when I get back from taking Miss Brown Eyes on her Sunday Afternoon ride....I am going to compose a letter directly to Yamaha......this coming week I will follow up ahead of time and after it with several important phone calls. I am going to listen to the opinions I also agree with. I like the Venture.....I like the people who ride them......I think it would be wrong of me to walk away from this issue.......one or two of them think I have the intelligence and determination to fight the good fight.......I will have to talk to myself and make myself behave a bit.........but we are going to try. I need your help......all of you........if you have this situation or know of it......or can add your voice to this , I really could use your help. I only ask that we all put our opinions about where the Venture is going.....how they may change it.. ON HOLD IN LETTERS TO YAMAHA. and above all do not say anything bad about any dealer......we know they are bad.......just that we should not say this. I am going to ask Yamaha to assign me a Dealer.....to work with me......to get this issue resolved and try to do this in a nice and friendly and intelligent manner. It may take awhile......okay.......I have the time. My latest word from my new dealer relationship was that they would change my clutch basket one time.....let me ride it..if I liked the sound, that would be fine, if I did not, they would re-install the original basket. I do not accept this at this point, I want it properly taken care of. If it takes half a dozen baskets.....several drive shafts and a couple universals to accomplish this.....this is the goal. I wish to bypass the dealerships at this point.....go right on up the ladder, and let Yamaha get involved and resolve this. I will state in my letter to them......you in management need to become aware of our situation.....our opinions on this......we like Yamaha products and some of us can be great field reps for your products.....you need to be aware of our serious intent of this issue. I am sure they are aware of this site already.....I am not sure how much attention management pays to it....but I will bring it to their attention. I wish to stress......do not run down the dealers....lets be nice....if an answer cannot be obtained from one source , we will bypass them, and go to the next one in the line. Who knows we might actually win a battle or two, and it can only help all of us who have this situation. I know that sometimes on this forum......there are a lot more visitors than members....people looking for information.....this is how I found it. So people are watching. I am done with changing my mind.....saying stupid things....flitting around like a mosquito.........I am going to hang in there and fight the good fight.......after meeting some of the people involved in all this this weekend, I think I owe it to them , and myself. Respectfully Kit See I can be serious as can be when I want to be.....I have finally got my own mind wrapped around this situation, wish me luck...help me if you can.
  20. This one is too close to home and a good price not to look at it seriously. Given that it's sat for a while, what do you recommend having to do before trying to fire it up? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6718&viewitem=&item=120173317213&_trksid=p3907.m29 If anyone else here is already bidding on this, let me know - I won't fight you for it. Dave
  21. First i would like to thank everyone who helped with my starting problem. Second to everyone who offered to take it off my hands. If i ride it and don't like it i will let you guy fight for it. The winner gets it for the same price i did free but it must be a fight to the death to be webcast here live or no deal. Now the problem i have is the lids practically need to be pried open to get in. The locks push in and when opened finally the hinges work well. I am afraid i'll rip a top off opening one it takes so much pulling to get it open. Any ideas
